In the grim darkness of the far future, something stirs in the warp. Heroes of the Heretic Astartes, long thought lost, return – but only for a short time.

Three classic Chaos Space Marine Sorcerer models will be available to order from next Saturday for just one week (the warp is fickle like that). It’s already been an amazing year for Chaos Space Marines fans – what with a new codex and a huge range of incredible plastic kits. This chance to pick up some amazing models from the past is like a cherry on top of the Chaos cake.*

These three models date back more than two decades. Each retains an echo of the Space Marine Librarians they once were, but their ornate detailing shows the influence of the Dark Gods and will help them to fit nicely in a modern Heretic Astartes army.

You can order these three Chaos Space Marine Sorcerers next Saturday. In the meantime, pick up the codex for their rules, and some Chaos Space Marines to give them some followers to lead.

* Obligatory Health Warning: Don’t eat a Chaos cake unless you really want some unpredictable mutations.

Odd choice for this round especially in light of the opportunity to release classic chaos champions for Warcry...

GW's choices are not always logical - eg why didn't they release the Diaz Deamonettes and seekrs when they did the new Slaanesh - those would sell at nearly any premium GW sets - heck on ebay they sell for insane amounts.

That said isn't there one of the "dragon mouth backpacks" in the rumour images GW pubilshes

Well, at least the Deamonettes had already had an MTO.

Having said that I absolutely would buy some more if they did it again, the MTO hasn't actually dented their ebay prices all that much.

But yeah, I would really like a bit more transparency about what they pick, and taking a bit more customer input about what we'd like, or even just consistent theming around Codex/Battletome releases.

I'd like more of a lead time too on info. Eg if they were to do the Diaz Deamonettes this week I'd be really annoyed because I'd not be able to afford them; yet if they'd told me in advance I could have put aside money (not something GW likes us to do of course...).

That or open up the made to order to be at least longer than 1 week

And yeah the 1 week order before has done nothing much to dent their ebay prices; they are still a highly desirable sculpt in limited supply. Esp since it was a year or two ago now and there's been a big influx of new Slaanesh players so, up goes demand and the supply is ever dwindling.

There is still an unaccounted for backpack of that ilk yes, which given that the generic sorcerer is still fine cast and there must be another chaos wave, including oblits and venomcrawlers it might be a good spot for a plastic one.

Those choice would hurt sales for the products they are releasing.
They want you to buy new Warcry stuff, and wanted the current Slaanesh stuff, if you bought the old MtO items, while it would be profit, it would hurt the numbers on a new release potentially.
That’s what they and a lot of others look at when considering success of a release, and pleasing shareholders is more important (and necessary) than the fan base at the end of the day..

These sorcerers are a nice call back to the original Dawn of War game.

I don't think I'd pick these up but nice nonetheless.

I figured that would have been a smart time to release the new plastic sorcerer, but I guess why buy more than one sorcerer?

I imagine some properly modern paint jobs can make these look much better. As it is, they scream 'Red Phase'.

That's because the new daemonettes are terrible and the Diaz daemonettes are amazing. If they want people to buy the new stuff, they should make it better than the old stuff so that the market for the old stuff is just collectors and not "anyone with taste".

Pretty sure it will be finecast. I don't think GW has any metal in stock anymore.
I haven't come across any at least. Anyone know the answer?

Last I checked, their website still claimed that the Furies were metal. If that's not a sign of poor sales.

Waywatchers, Wayfinders, one of the Spellweavers are still metal.

And they've been in/out of stock since AoS dropped its first edition. It just seems like they're not interested in replacing stuff with resin anymore unless they have to.

Has anyone participated in any of the other "made to order" sales they've done over the past year? Where any of those metal?

Yeah I have almost everyone.

They always come back in the material they left in as far as I remember.

So if it was metal when it was removed from the webstore it will be metal again.

Or if it was finecast It will be finecast again.

I don't remember these sorcerers ever being sold as finecast so they will most likely be metal.

Considering the issues with finecast in quality control I think GW just wants rid of it entirely. Sadly they are somewhat dragging their heels with getting rid of the last of it, but yeah I can well see a time when they remove it fully, even if they still ended up keeping some metal models around in some AoS forces. Eg skaven still need quite a few models updated to clear their line of metals.

Very tempted by these...

For anyone wondering, I have bought MTO a few times and it's always been metal. Not sure why, but I really appreciated it with the eldar ranger. While I think finecast is an okay medium for marines and larger minis, the fine details for eldar etc get obliterated too often. Makes dealing with them very in fun

I have received resin models twice from Made To Order. I guess I didn't read the description carefully.

Like said above, the models will be released in whichever material they were available the last time.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

I like how you mentioned one of the best models GW ever made with one of the worst garbage. Is that supposed to be some sort of excessive tribute to Slaanesh?

Eye of Terror

I have all these Sorcerers. Something to be aware of: they are noticeably small compared with newer releases.

The decorations on the helmets raise them to the overall height of the new CSM sculpts. But the torso is significantly smaller.

If you are going to buy them, put them on a scenic base.

At least one, the Sorcerer with the chaos staff, was sold until fairly recently in metal, so expect MTO version to be metal too.

I have all these as well, I think they really show how far GW's new sculpts have improved, and as mentioned above, due to their size they don't really work alongside the newer stuff

I've been playing a while, my first model was a lead marine and my first White Dwarf was bound with staples

I'm pretty sure all three pre-date DoW by at least a decade.

I'm pretty sure I had two of them, back in 1996.

Dawn of war 1 was 2004, I remember having the staff guy as my prize mini in 2003 and he was old back then. Will consider re-buying him though and slapping on some wings.
