I'm on the fence. I like the pistol, the feather and even the face even if it's a bit too much anime fan. But the feet-claws? The weird jump/jet/whatever pack? Eh.

Thankfully I'm doing a DIY chapter.... XD

Honestly just tidy up the model, add more purity seals, remove the head, replace with beakie, remove the giant wall cut it down to a third or fourth of its size and the model will look more heroic.

Centralizing the model and the pose is very better than having him almost an inch over his base.

I like it. And I'll go over why etc.

Ok first of all, let's get this out of the way, weather you liked Phobos armor or not Shrike being it it was a no brainer. the leader of the stealthy spec forces chapter is going to wear the "stealthy spec forces armor" that's a obvious thing.

So the design goals of the minis where to update the character model to the phobos range while also retaining aspects of the model that are reckongizable. and I think they managed that pretty well.

Shrike clearly has a jump pack, and dual lightning claws of a new varient that leaves his hands free. which I think is a nice idea. and he takes advantage of this to also wield a gun (it's ahrd to tell if it's a pistol or a carbine. I;'m hoping a carbine of some sort as it'll allow him to play the range game when nesscary)

So yeah I think they acheived what was nesscary, looks like shrike is packing some additional weaponry too, the "proably grenade launchers" on his jump pack as well as his "foot talons" (it's clear they can swing forward, and I'd be willing to bet they'll give him sort sort of bonus on his charges)

I know people complain about the hair but If he doesn't come with a helmet the one belted on his hip suggest it'll be an easy conversion to make. and well.. raven guard being Emo isn't a relavation, I bet that the raven guard upograde sprue will feature longish haired vaguely emo looking hair on it

Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two

I quite like the rebar. Nice cold worked deformed bars to get a good bond with the concrete.

While.i really love the beaky helmet and I can see how you could have some kind of mask to wear under it, how in the name of flippety flip does he fit that aerial welded to the side of his head into it?

Not a fan of the new jump pack design yet. I quite like the brutality of the old school ones that really do look like they have a decent bit of grunt. This pack looks too much like chaos marine backpacks, especially with the Mallex.pack with the 4 cent pod thingies.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

I'm with you on this. And even if you're not into him but want to play Raven Guard it seems like he's easy to tweak his model (like putting a beaky helm on him).

Wonder if there will be an option to pose him flying, instead of perched? Would also be interesting to see him with the foot claws extruded...

The model is a little heavy on the details, but I like it over all. Defiently going to make him put his damn helmet on, though.

For those speculating, I'm pretty certain its the Gravis Jumppack (as seen in inceptors) bolted to the Phobos armor. Which is an odd choice.

"Remove some of these armor plates, I don't want the weight"

"Of Course My Lord"

*Points at Inceptor* and give me his jumppack

"But that weighs as much as the rest of the armor! Surely"

"Don't give me excuses. I want to hold out my arms and fly damnit!"

To the people that don't like him they see something reminiscent of Toby Maguire as he appears in the cringy parts of Spiderman 3 where he portray's Peter Parker's distorted sense of what's cool... or some emo music performer. To the people that like him they see something more like Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier in all the Captain America and Avengers movies... which was far more likely the sculptor's intention; that is a soldier that is willing and able to wage a one man war.

They obviously took design cues for his head from that character, and helmetless was alway likely. When you look at the different Chapter Master minis he was the only one wearing a helmet. While reality dictates that's the smart move, the game exists in the same sort of fictional setting that lets action movie heroes get away with not having a helmet and not having helmet on becomes a way to denote significance while adding traits to distinguish the character as an individual.

Whether you like him or not, his head is distinctive in the way Raven Guard are characterized. The different chapter masters are exemplars of their chapter. One of the things used consistently to describe the Raven Guard are their skin and hair... two things not visible with a helmet on. When it comes to the Raven Guard they're sharp eyed, broody with black hair, and while it might not be a popular depiction of dark and brooding it is an immediately recognizable characterization that's being used.

I like the model. I think it more wholly captures the feel of the Raven Guard being put out in the lore now. The old model felt like it was just checking the boxes and didn't fit with how the Raven Guard were described as operating the majority of the time.

They stand in contrast to the Blood Angel assault oriented jump pack units, where GW has thematically refocused Raven Guard around stealth, ambush, and the use of jump packs to facilitate those things.

Given what the Raven Guard are now, a chapter master intended solely for getting into assault doesn't make much sense. He never made a lot of sense for an army that while it makes quick directed strikes predominantly make use of distributed scouting and reconnaissance forces. In supporting a more range oriented army it meant Shrike needed to have either a gun or some abstract ranged attack like an ability to call in orbital strikes... that isn't immediately represented on the model. Given the number of assault bolters floating around now, a gun makes sense. However once you say he's going to have a rifle, it means his lightning claws need to become a version that allows him to use his hands to manipulate that bolter. It means they can't be so bulky that they'd make it impossible to hold a gun. Master crafted should generally mean more than just some weapon of the same shape and bulk, so if you're an artificer asked to master craft lightning claws for a chapter master you're likely incorporating miniaturization and weight reduction technology and even if it doesn't go as far as digital weapons it'd be noticeable. You end up with something utilitarian, as much as giant claws can be, and these claws are utilitarian in a way that the Raven Guard are described.

Some people don't like he's standing on a wall, but he isn't. Its clearly a perch of some kind disconnected from the rooftop it came from... but its ultimately a better way having a jump pack unit at the height of those flying stands Inceptor use, without using those.

If the model has a weakness its the pose. Rather than standing there he really should look more dynamic. He really should look like he's using that bolter to blast something as he swoops in or swoops back...

He looks ugly, period. Why they make him huge, then standing on a wall as if saying " Kill me, I'm here ! Kill me ! "

The foot claws look ork like, which is fine for an ork. The emo hair is a bit much, and all the feathers is, questionable but Death wing also have such, so ok. Carrying an old helmet, ok odd at its face.

Don't mind the phobos armor, but he looks like he busted right outta Savage Garden and I don't even like his new claws.

All in all, no Sir, I don't like it.

I think its on the mediocre side. The eclectic mix of armor types and the Liefeld pouches aren't doing anything for me. I would normally swap the head for a helmet so thats NBD.

I think he's less goofy looking than that new White Scars guy with the bird or some of the Phobos characters. As a Primaris only Raven Guard player, I'm not 100% thrilled with it but I'll probably get him.

well they could have gone with a talon of horus style lighting claw to give him a gun but I agree. TBH the new lighting claws on Shrike are some ofthe most sensable lighting claws I've seen and I kinda hope they'ret the standard primaris claws when we finally get primaris with them

As do I. It has bugged me for twenty years, that the lightning claws look like power fists even though they stopped being improved power fists in the third edition. Finally a lightning claw design that actually matches how they function in the game.

It's the first special character I've seen, Primaris or otherwise, that I want to pick up purely on liking the model. Even with despising the Corvis helmet.

Also, it sets the stage for Phobos jump-pack guys with dual lightning claw / pistol arrays, and that sounds exactly like what I'd expect a Primaris melee unit to be carrying. Focused on quantity over quality and not particularly concerned with the points efficiency.

Gathering the Informations.

I wouldn't expect a unit for everyone.

For Raven Guard? Maybe. I keep harping on this but they're likely to do Chapter Masters with 3 model sets and a 'signature' unit.

See: Calgar and Victrix Honor Guard.

It's a reference to We Need to Talk About Kevin, an emo-era suburban white mum 'I-did-everything-the-parenting-book-told-me-but-my-kid-is-still-a-monster' hysteria novel that got made into a movie about a grumpy kid called Kevin who ends up doing some bad things for no discernable reason. I mostly couldn't resist a bad pun and I won't apologize for it
Inspired by the 'It's not a phase!' haircut it turns out Shrike was secretly rocking all along. (which I actually quite like, though I'm not sure why everyone seems to be bandwagoning the Spiderman 3 meme thingy...)
