Nice to see them set it in the original time period that the story was written in!

Mind you, the original was set in the time it was written - something that can also be said of Orson Welles' and Steven Spielberg's versions. I'm not sure if keeping it a period piece loses some of the theme of hubris that the original had.

Well, the original was mostly meant as a dig at British colonialism, so it managed that rather well.

And as previously mentioned, their better be Thunder Child.

For the third episode you mean? They’ve already aired the first two of the three parter. Or I assume they aired someone because I watched them online...

It is... ok. The build up to the attack is good. The attack itself is good. The aftermath really bogs down and gets boring to me. Interspaced thru that they go back and forth to post defeat of the aliens scenes, and those I also found dull. Have not yet seen the third episode to see how they wrap it all up though.

I believe it got an early release in Canada (??). Hasn’t been on in the UK, or the US, I believe.

Already seen bits of it, and it seems decent enough but its not got the energy of the american movies in important scenes...

Spoiler:
HMS Thunderchild seems to be a background object, and the Horsell Common attack is spectacularly crap. The battle on the hill in the 2005 movie was a moving tribute to armed forces that lay down their lives to allow civilians to live another day, but in the BBC version they are more bothered about the main characters than the sacrifice of the Thunderchild. Thankfully a Tripod decides to break up that lovely-dovey crap and chase them on the beach. Also, its refreshing to see the invaders are not invincible but now "hard to bring down", which makes them more believeable.

...but its unfair to pass judgement before seeing it as a whole. Favourite comment on Youtube: "Good to see the Royal Navy doing the Emperors Will and killing the Xenos scum." - or something like that.

How many parts to this are there supposed to be? I got parts 1 & 2, but am waiting to watch this until I have the complete run... and I thought it was supposed to be at least 3 parts, right?

Last I checked it was only listed for three parts total.

Thank you, what I thought. Still haven't seen the third part yet.

Just seen the first episode on BBC1 and it is decent. Now looking forward to the second part.

Minor nitpick is that the Martians look slightly odd in the victorian setting and would probably feel more at home in a game like Crysis. The "forest scene" works better than I thought it would, given what comes before and after.

A gut feeling considering the extra scenes(quite unexpected), but it would be interesting to see if the BBC puts in for a second season.
