お明けましておめでとう!

Sort of in the run up to the new SOB dropping, I've decided to have a bit of a go at finishing up the ones I have from back in the day. As it stands, not too many minis, and a fair few of them are nearing completion! This is long, sorry, +10,000 McBogus Points if ya read it all!

However...

...I have this Retributor squad, you see...

Waaaaaay back, in those heady days of 2015 (think baaaaaack〜) I was living in a leaky attic room in Hull, going to punk rock shows, and routinely being beaten by my mate's mechanized guard. I decided I needed some anti-tank counterpunch. A Retributor Squad, riding in an Immolator - everything packing melta!!!

Being strapped for cash, I bought the minis slowly. By the time I got to the first retributor, I realized I had a problem. She came in her lil package - minus a backpack. I contacted GW customer services. A new lil package in the post - no backpack. Finally a third arrived, backpack in tow. I quickly seized on the opportunity, and bought another - this time with a backpack - realizing I had pretty much gotten the better part of a Retributor squad for free - neato! I asked waaaay back when, if I could get replacements for those two missing backpacks, I was told it wasn't possible. With those kits now discontinued, I feel like getting such a specific part of such as specific model is... extremely unlikely.

At the time, l had the maniac idea (I could prolly still do this tho...) to greenstuff pushmold replacements. I have 2 backpacks with the melta tanks, I could try??? copying.
Alternately, I've got a few meltabombs kicking about, which I could fairly easily kitbash onto other SOB backpacks...
...but only 1 other SOB backpack.

With new sisters on the horizon, I'm weighing up my options. I'm tempted to swipe the backpacks from the incoming Retributor kit. Presumably, it'll be much like the devastator squad kit - 2 of every weapon, but only 5 possible bodies. I could happily take the other 2 and make 2x heavy bolter, 2x heavy flamer, just to pad out my regular squads/collection etc.

Other ideas I'm exploring:

I know a reputable *ahem* Russian Enthusiast-For-Out-Of-Production-GW-Sculpts, who does the Heavy bolter sister. I could get the bits off him to make these two ladies into heavy bolter users instead, with only arm and backpack swaps, as the poses seem to be identical.

I also have 1 more ordinary sisters backpack. Again, with the upcoming releases, I'm pretty sure (cannoness kit) I'll get another. So I'm thinking of making a couple of sister superiors - I have the bits to make (using the older canoness model) one with a melta-pistol and power sword, and another with a bolt-pistol and book (could probably attach a holstered sword pretty easily). They both have a bit of gubbins for the multi-melta however (arms and belt) which makes me a little reluctant. But at the same time, my blutac mockups do look rather nice, and It would be kinda cool to have some unique unit leaders in metal, when all the whippersnappers with their newfangled plastics come around (These metal designs are older than me).

My question, Dakkadakka - is what to do? Lemme hear those sweet, juicy suggestions! Thanks!

You could also try blue stuff molding agent. I have some but have yet to use it. I got an inquisitor krieger thrax on ebay missing his backpack, so I might try using the blue stuff on the one I have from before to make a new one.

If not get the Eastern bits. I imagine the new kits will be significantly upscaled which may affect the look of the older models.

ooh, good call on the blue stuff - wasn't on my radar at all! I might have to do a bit more research on that one! Thanks very much!

Thanks very much for the PM - At the moment, I'm trying the bluestuff route - It needs a little refining, but I've had good results so far. I'm going to have another few attempts over the next few days, and with a bit of luck, won't have to get in contact with you, but I really really appreciate the offer, and may well take you up on it if my own casting skills aren't up to scratch hahaha
