Well the wonderful Illyana (Magik) looks and acts about right so will probably watch it for her.

Still going with the psycho-horror thing I see.

On Magik- eh? The look seems right, but confident-killer Illyana is a VERY strange starting point. She was very happy-go-lucky and innocent in the early New Mutant days.

That wasn't really part of her character even when Inferno was in full swing, even with the grown up version when she got introduced and lost in Limbo originally, and grew up as Belasco's apprentice, before they time paradoxed her back to something like normal.

Maybe later when she grew up again (my knowledge fades out during the 90s)...but, didn't she die from some disease or something?

----

The order they introduce the characters in is interesting. Rahne and Sam seem on point (though the latter seems impossible to imprison, but Bobby's initial power set didn't have any way to burn people. He just had super strength until some nonsense during X-force's run.

Dani is an interesting choice for the PoV character given her power set and the general theme of the film. But as the newcomer, she's an odd choice.

Is the 'Doctor' actually Karma? That would put an interesting spin on things...

Marvel/Disney juggled it for quite a while. Interestingly, according to reports they reverted some of it to the director's version and cancelled a lot of the reshoots Fox planned.

As likely my all time fav X character.....

She is quite dark as soon as she comes back given what she has been through - as achild abused by daemons, groomed to be a sorcerer in service to Cthulhu like entities and having killed or caused to be killed her version of Kitty Pryde, Night Crawler and Storm. I recall when Magneto was looking after the school him looking at her bedrom door with lost of Teenage warning signs about beware of the daemon etc he has to consider that its very very real. The main version of Kitty is howver def a huge influence on her but IIRC she has older than her years, darker elements. I recall Raine being very down on her due to her faith and Illyana in her view "consorting with demons" - she does change her view when she sees what happened to her a child....

She regressed in age after Inferno and then died from the Legacy Virus crap- she turns up in House of M - where again she is very confident member of a team - her place is questioned by a guy little older than her - she telports them to a volcano and threatens him......IIRC she survives the House of M by teleporting to Limbo as its fades, then my info is sketchy - she does hold part of the Pheonix force at one point - and the newer materail I have read she is usually portrayed as a dangerous figure.

It does appear to be all about the Demon-Bear story which I recall being pretty dark?

I truthfully don't remember that one. I didn't pick up NM right away- I picked it up a couple years late when the crazy scientist, the Ani-Mator (sigh) making animal people (the Ani-Mates, which has... unfortunate implications) managed to kill one of the group.

And really it was mostly an outgrowth of my interest in the X-men, and the were already doing X-men Classic at the same time, which had introduced Kitty and Xavier was threatening to toss her in with the New Mutants... so my opinion of the 'kids' group' was never very high. The combination of goofy enemies and weird grasp of 'consequences' didn't exactly sell me on the title.

Cypher. It was Cypher, and he took a bullet for Wolvesbane. Eventually he got resurrected, as so many comic characters are wont to do. Currently he's acting as the translator for the living island of Krakoa, where the mutant nation has set up shop. I hope he finally hooks up with Psylocke, as this was a dropped plot thread after Clairemont left.

But killing off Cypher basically killed my interest in New Mutants at the time. That and the art went completely to dumpster fire territory, which was a constant problem for New Mutants.

By that I assume you mean Betty now that she's been separated again?

Psylocke was Psylocke before she became a ninja. Right now I think she's Captain Britain (again!)?

Psylocke isn't an exotic ninja anymore? Please tell me that her psyblade is still the focused totality of her psychic powers!

Yeah she's back to being a half-breed otherworlder of English upbringing and appearance. Also she's gotten upgrades (telekinesis), but can still do the psychic knife trick.

So, I wanted to see this from the giddy-up, and still will - but there is literally no way this is going to be good. No movie can go through this many rewrites, re-shoots, and reschedules and be OK.

Still, I feel like it's a low bar to be better than the wet fart that was Dark Phoenix, and it will be nice to not have that be the last non-Disney mutant movie.

Did you know that Psylocke's psychic knife is focused totality of her psychic powers?
