Yeah I kinda miss them too. It's why my Waaagh banner guy has a big flag.

Regarding Teclis, I don't think the connection point is his feet. I think his cape behind attaches to the sphinx's wing and his feet will actually be floating out in front, detached from anything. Another shot from a different angle could confirm/deny.

It was like this at NOVA last year too.

There really needs to be some pre-screening in place. Maybe attendees could fill out a form with their question(s) prior to the seminar and then the team could address whatever they have the capacity to address.

I'm not a fan of pre-selecting questions as it introduces too much potential bias. GW wants to promote X and Y factions as they've got models being announced for them so they pre-screen a preponderance of questions about those two factions. Meanwhile, faction Z has been ignored and they want to avoid uncomfortable questions about that so they simply toss those. If the con objects, GW threatens to pull their panel and/or attendance completely. It's obviously conjecture at this point but it's the logical conclusion to the scenario when one side holds all the cards. And that's not even considering the various potential levels of prescreening (written submissions read by a con organizer vs simply asking attendees in line for the Q&A what they'll ask).

That doesn't sound like a logical conclusion at all. Nobody is asking "uncomfortable questions" that put them on the spot to begin with, just the inane repetition of questions that they obviously can't and won't talk about.

And vetting the questions in-line requires just one person to stand there and ask in advance. That doesn't seem like a deal-breaking inconvenience to me.

What questions do they expect as a model manufacturing company? If they can't answer any questions everyone wants to ask perhaps they shouldn't bother with a Q&A?

Suitable hats? Just buy a bag of cheap plastic cowboys and cut off the hat.

I converted one of the elves from Warmachine for a buddy to look like Torgo from Manos, Hands of Fate. Since their knees looked like they were backwards, all I did was replace the gun with a staff, cut off the top of the head and added a plastic cowboy hat and painted it like a backwater murdered. Fun.

Before any of the plastic Ad Mech were released, we had years of illustrations (going right back to 1st Edition) on which to base an idea about aesthetics. My personal favourites are Jes Goodwin’s drawing of tech priests and John Blanche’s painting of Mars. It’s purely a subjective opinion, but I think the model line has almost completely ignored all previous depictions of the Ad Mech. That would be fine if I thought the minis were better than the old art, but I think they are far, far inferior.

Of course, GW don’t have any obligation to please me and it’s just, like my opinion man.

Fair enough, but what I meant was what direction is there left to give the Guard anything interesting and unique, design-wise? Unless it's "more tanks on tracks", of course - the new Marine tanks don't have tracks, and apart from the Kataphron the AdMech don't either.

GW staff will just roll its eyes at your "uncomfortable questions" thinking "Aaaaand another idiot who doesn't understand what this discussion is about" and still not give you any answer.

Pre-screening should be mandatory for all events. Would save a lot of time for actual questions that can be answered.

A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.

Okay. The admech stuff looks cool, but I don't think they fit in the 40k setting, especially the robo-horsies. 40k really looks to be going the same route aesthetically as AOS.

The High Elves are kinda meh. The old range was lovely, these have some issues, like the plumes and the giant pieces of scale mail in odd places, (the scales don't overlap either).

The armor guy is a neat idea, but the execution doesn't "wow" me. It looks like there's a head under the helmet, though I'm sure it isn't. IMO, trying to make the limbs look detached was the wrong way to go, and simply sculpting it as armor, and making it clear the the helmet was empty, or simply using a closed helm with a mask/visor of some kind, would have been more effective.

Teclis is hideous. Much of it is the little dude big dude combo that draws the eye away from him, also the silly half-moon thing on his helmet, the Sphinx's horns don't make sense, and Teclis himself simply looks silly up there. Another case of a sculptor trying too hard.

New Ghazz? I'll wait and see. If the GW pattern holds, he'll be around the size of a knight, and overloaded with details and gubbinz- even for an Ork. Maybe I will be pleasantly surprised.

I didn't bother to watch the Angels of Death thing.

Zoat? Cool.

Lizardmen Ziggurat looks nice.

I am very relieved to hear many are sharing my dislike of the AdMech design direction... I very much agree that the whole steampunk/nature shapes/ animal analogue thing is so completely against everything I had every imagined or read about AdMech. Something more like a mix of borg, terminator pistons and hydraulics, gothic skulliness, meat and machine in uncomfortable looking shapes was always what I pictured. Almost stuff from that old Jamie Lee Curtis movie Virus. Archmagos Cawl, Engineseers and some other older stuff fit the bill close enough, but this new stuff is almost at odds with that aesthetic. Uniform shapes, lots of smooth plates. Maximum tech apparently means 16th century DaVinci canvas and wood bat-wings... I mean, in many ways they look almost the least advanced technologically.

I dunno why it bugs me but it does lol.

That said, on a second glance still can't believe they did a Zoat, for an OG like me that is awesome. I know it's been years since the 'dark days' of GW, but I am still impressed at the turn-around. Know it's not perfect for some still but one still has to admire the corrective action.

You're definitely not the only one. I wasn't a big fan of the Flash Gordon 1930's FW mechanicus style but I'd take that in a heartbeat over this DaVinci sketch inspired and steampunk stuff. I personally envisioned a technomechanical horror faction more akin to what the sisters got with the penitent engines and archoflagellants but with a less flesh progressively as you advance up the ranks. They've nailed the look/idea with some of their character models like Cawl and various FW kits but not these units.

The "update" uses exactly the same sculpts. They are effectively the same models as 1999 because they are all but indistinguishable. A few additions were made to the kit but that is it.

They do need an update. Many Ork players don't want it though because they've got 100s of painted Boyz already.

What kind of reasoning is that? Turning it around, look you might not want fluff to be screwed and thrown under the bus, but others do?

I am just reacting to the description of Orks in the fluff, in the newer fluff Nobs are twice as big as space marines, and Orks aren't that much smaller. Welcome to the age of the primorks.

The absolute size I don't care about much, but more size differences between boyz/nobz/warbosses/ghazghkull, yes please.

This is in one specific book series, one of the key points of which is that the Orks featured are abnormally large. There's already a size distintion between different levels of Orks in the current range.

GW not keeping a lid on hyperbolic descriptions in BL material then people latching onto it is how we ended up with stupid giant marines. No need to do it to Orks too or people will start complaining about Marines being too small and the whole cycle keeps going round until everything's the size of an action figure.

We are talking Beast Arises?
As it’s hardly the ‘newer fluff’ setting wise anyway, as it’s what 10k years ago almost.

Well it’s the only series I’ve read so I assume that’s the one he means..

The flamer horses and zoat are the clear winners here.

I was surprised by the Zoat popping up as a star player in Blood Bowl but I'm possibly more surprised by seeing a new 40k version. Looks great, though. Very chunky. And the armour really has an 80s sci fi vibe, but nicely updated. I wonder if it will have any options like a mask-less head? Not that it's a deal breaker. I'm probably going to be flipping through my Rogue Trader bestiary to try and figure out what might be next...
