Nice that this time they actually took advantage of the gun modularity and went with just the muzzles, unlike the resin kit.

I'm disappointed. There's no "free hands" which would make sense for the guys wielding the heavy weapons but also for those who wield a special weapon with one hand. We're forced to give them a second weapon or to convert.
Also only one special pistol (no las sub or combi plasma/flamer), and I don't see the arm for that pistol: I suspect we must the same pistol arm included in the regular kit. Heads are nice though, bottom one can be also used on a female judging from this image.

Funnily enough, it was the Orlock with Heavy Bolter from original Necromunda which was credited with popularising the off the shoulder look!

No combi plasma, and plasma gun could've use a "2 handed" bits instead of all of the other overpriced situational special that no one would ever get 4 each in their gangs. There're also Lascannon that has never been made before, that would have been a good(and more exciting) bits in place of the Multi Melta. The flamer also have a slight change to the torch piece. Orlock weapon pack is still the best one so far. Van Saar would still play well using only bits in their gang box.

The VS upgrades turned out decent, would've liked a combi plas bit, not so sure I needed 4 grav guns and flamers but whatever. An additional free hand would've been nice considering you only get 2 in the regular VS box, and this upgrade kit doesn't have spare left arms for the heavy plasma/metla cannon.
I would like them to do a lascannon piece at some point....appaently it'll have to be in resin.

Ya, anyone not rocking lasgun needs those extra empty hands. Also GW, check bitz sites and notice no one wants more bare heads for Van Saar. Luckily though GW gave us 3 new bare heads and 2 masked heads. No left-handed shooting arms, not even more pistols. Still nicely rounds out what's in the box. Count my money as gone.

These are 2 identical sprue, so 2 of the same thing is unavoidable, however 4 for each overpriced special weapons is quite a meme decision that cost a lot of money, because memes are funny haha.

I mean, it's not unavoidable though - they could just sell a single sprue for half the price of two. Or (heaven forbid!) sell two different sprues.

So... this is what, Van Saar's third plastic sprue and the second weapons pack, right? And in all of those, they still don't have a single projectile weapon?

Do they? I don't think they have enough for that, what with there being heavy stubbers, boltguns of various types, shotguns and everything else apart from the autogun/autopistol/stubber.
And it still makes their STC kinda crappy :p

There're las 'heavy stubber", but it's only for the archni suit, and it's a bit weaker, but does more shot, more accurate, plentiful. Boltgun is really redundant for van saar because they have hotshot and focusing crystal upgrade for las weapon.

Plis it would have been nice to see more variety instead of cuadruple flamer/melta/plasmas.

Only cannons. And the ones from the original sprues.
I guess I just hoped these sprues would have been a bit less repetition, maybe. I feel this one is a bit worse than the previous.

We really needed 4 Rad Guns, 4 Grav Guns and 4 Meltas? Could'a saved space for a flamer? Lascannon? Some more basic weapons or combi-weapons?
I'm glad they're doing what FW didn't and actually using the whole "front of gun attachment" thing, but it's a kit that's almost entirely special weapon options, and how many of those do you really want or need?

No way, can you imagine how much money GW makes by making 50% of the sprue worthless and thus attempting to force everyone to go buy something else in addition to it, instead of just the sprue?

This isn't always the case, the Orlock pack is almost perfection, even pistol hand have left/right version.

Man, that STC of theirs is plain gak.
The goal of the weapon packs is to fulfill options from the house equipment lists, not random pulls from the Trading Ghost. Van Saar don't have any projectile weapons on their house list.

The best part of the boltgun is the rapid-fire, which an upgunned lasgun still lacks (on top of being unstable). You're incorrect, and VS loading up on boltguns from the TG is one of the most powerful (and unfriendly) things they can do.

Hot shot is not unstable, focusing crystal is, which you can give to Surpressing Laser or Sub cabine. Not sure what you meant "loading up" meant but gangers can't take guns from trading post, and champs and leader have their plasma gun and combi plasma, Boltgun can be nice if you're wiilling to start with 0 weapon for champs first game, so their best final loadout can be Boltgun + shield + plasma/combi plasma. But i'd argue getting the grenade launcher instead would be a much better investment, and for ganger, the photo goggles.

Melta is useful for blasting through door and some of the objective/boss in the game, which can be very tough (T and W at 5+, the "Sump Horror" in monster hunt have 8 Wounds.). Even so, normally you would never see 4 in a gang, also the combi melta/laspistol is cheaper than the melta gun, lol.

The 4x weapons is a consequence of doubling the same sprue and the choice of giving the option to wield these special weapons with one or two hands. I don't even want 2 of any special/heavy weapons and I'm going to split up the upgrade pack with a friend, like I did with all the other upgrades kits before this.
Considering that the 2 identical sprue were guaranteed, GW should have included one type of weapon per sprue, not two. With 3-4 bitz among combi weapons, pistols and free hands instead of the duplicates of the special weapons this set could have been absolutely amazing.
Still good enough to buy it though, at least I will.

As I’m not familiar with the Van Saar kits, can anyone weigh in with how essential two and one handed versions of the special weapons are?
The article says it’s compatible with both the basic Gang and the Champions set, so wondering if perhaps the double up isn’t as unusual as we first thought?

well, I guess same as with the rest, that way they can have another weapon on the other hand.
You know, I was just reminded about the story of Orlock gang boss Helgan Graywater, how he found an astartes bolter and managed to use it and got famous for it... until the astartes came a'knocking to get it back.
And then I take a look at the van saar grav guns and find it interesting ^^.
