If this clown actually kills Ghaz in a mini book, so help me Mork.

Ah thanks.

A bit disappointed Ragnar has black hair tbh. The whole Blackmane/Blackmanes/Blackmane heraldry being because of his hair colour rather than because he slew a Blackmane wolf seems like a weird, post apocalyptic degradation of GW writing. It's very 40k I'll give them that.

The Ork codex has Ghaz teleportin' around the galaxy. It's likely Ragnar killed someone he thought was Ghaz, who had the misfortune of standing where Ghaz was not too long before.

Neither of them will die. That would be bad for sales of their respective models. They will fight. The fight will be broken up somehow. Both will declare it a victory somehow to their respective factions.

If ghaz had died before current point in timeline don"t you think it would be at least hinted somewhere?

Well, according to the video preview up today, he 'swore to take the head of the beast' and was 'true to his word.'
But Ghaz came back from that, and so a new confrontation.

So... yeah. No idea how to parse that, beyond the absurdly Transylvanian Ragnar in the video being extremely metaphorical, or Ghaz is actually different orks, or can self-rez.

Ragnar has had black hair for more than twenty years now. He's described that way pre-geneseed on page 13 of William King's Space Wolf novel, published in 1999, and in the GW paint job, the model was done with black hair.

Bad for sales arqument sucks though. Not like gw hasnt had rules and modeis for dead in current timelines...

Good models and rules sell. State in fluff is irrelevant

Well, all the PA campaign till now have been nothing but filler, made to pass time until GW decide to release something that actually matter. He is right, nobody will die.

I have it on good authority that the mini will come in bare plastic unpainted and that GW will NOT be enforcing any arbitrary hair color conditions at sponsored/official events and locations. Let the golden locks flow in the cold breeze!

Just watched the video preview. Wow... I never imagined Ragnar's voice as Transylvanian vampire cosplay. That's like 70's tv show actor playing Russian soldier/spy bad levels of accent.

Is this Warhammer 40: Ragnar-rok

Do we have him meeting Green Ghaz in the arena and shouting - "hey its a friend from work!"

So when exactly did Ragnar Fulfill his quest and cut off Ghaz's head?

From what I'm getting from the lore article last week:

https://www.warhammer-community.com/2020/03/05/space-wolves-lore-part-2-to-slay-a-beastgw-homepage-post-4/

He apparently did a solo assassination run in Saga of the Beast (or immediately prior), thought he won, but got wounded and recovered and is already back for a rematch.

So, the lore video and the lore article don't quite sync up, but I guess they're covering it all in one book, rather than building up to it, which feels pretty cheap. I guess GW felt they needed to do a 40k equivalent of Rocky I and Rocky II in a 30 minute episode.

Maybe he is being figurative and knocked off that giant skull totem that ghazzy had carried. It seems much more subdued on the new version of the model.

My guess is that Ragnar will win, but not kill Ghaz. GW Fluff Writing 101 states that Space Marines always win, regardless of how absurd the odds, and if the Imperium needs to lose a fight for fluff purposes or to continue the narrative, it will be lost by the Guard. Forgeworld doesn’t really do this, and a few authors in the BL don’t always fall back on it, but it’s pretty par for course with the 40k narrative.

If GW really wanted to mix things up they would have Ghaz kill Blackmane (which is probably the logical course for the battle to run), but they really shy away from killing major characters.

Not sure where people are hearing Transylvanian, pretty sure that's supposed to be an awful Scandinavian-esque accent, like the Nords in Skyrim.

It's obviously supposed to be Nordic, but after I read the comments I went back and listened again and it does actually sound like Transylvania.

Its a stock 'Transylvanian' accent from most Dracula related movies done for British cinema or hollywood

It's supposed to be... But it sounds instead like a schlocky horror B-movie vampire impression. It's not like it's hard to find a real Scandinavian in Europe to record the lines.

I don't know where this comes from. I mean, have any of you ever read the FW Imperial Armour books? The Imperium almost always gets smashed aside (Taros being the most egregious example). And any victory is always Pyrrhic.

This. To my untrained ear (no substantial knowledge of Scandinavian languages unfortunately) the impersonation only sounds plausible in the way he pronounces "Thraka" - accentuating the velar sounds rather than making it "flow" like the way English speakers pronounce it.

In that sense, it made me think of the way that characters from The Banner Saga videogame speak English with a quasi-Scandinavian accent, which I must admit, I rather enjoyed, mostly because to me it sounded more humane than the "manly vikings speaking with manly Arnoldesque accent" feel that I got from Skyrim. @AlmightyWalrus I'd love to hear your opinion on this.

Edit: I've just realised that the kind of pronunciation like that I mentioned only occurs in Icelandic AFAIK.

Yeah that's a pretty shocking effort at a Scandinavian accent. It's pretty full on Dracula.

Not really, more bored. The 'Orks vs SW' box has been falsely rumored so many times over the last two years as a new starter, alternate starter or whatever that I'm just tired of hearing about it.
It seems underwhelming since Tooth and Claw wasn't all that long ago, and orks in a boxed set are a cliche themselves.

It doesn't help that Ragnar vs Ghaz has no stakes, or real history. Their first 'confrontation,' in the battle report reprinted in the original SW codex, ended with Ghaz legging it from Njal's psychic powers (Ragnar was busy killing a random squad of Evil Sunz).
If it were Yarrick vs Ghaz I might care, as that match-up actually has stakes, but this feels drawn from a hat. Or, as the Psychic Snorefest drags onward thru perfectly mundane fights on a handful of planets, it feels like just an accidental match-up of factions that haven't been covered yet. (Though AdMech vs Daemons is really going to bring the 'who cares?' bar to new lows).

Yeah, if you had read the next sentence in my post you would have saw I said that FW does not take part in this. GW does make every victory a pyrrhic, but you that’s really how they are spun. I mean is a victory really that pyrrhic when 17 out of 20 Space Marine die, but they subdue an entire rebelling planet? Again, FW is an exception, but if you read the codex or core rule book fluff they are pretty absurdly pro-SM.

As a Slav, I can guarantee you that it would make an equally horrid Eastern European accent.

Wasn't there a piece of fluff where painboys are able to reattach a severed limbs back onto the body and the ork still live? Ragnar's words may be true in taking Ghaz's head, but there would be an "after credits scene" where a painboy takes his head and reattaches it back to his body. That and the power of Gork and Mork on his side could help in healing him.
