This. There's also the fact Bandai Spirits aim at the high end collectibles market vs McFarlane aiming at mass market. Basically, it's the same situation of Bandai and Hasbro both having the Marvel license and producing figures at the same size but the difference in quality between $80-120 Figuarts and $20 Marvel Legends is huge.

Well the same except that Marvel Legends are good toys vs McFarlane.

Yup, by all accounts it's the same size as their Figuarts Thanos, who is a good 8" tall and is a chunky heft of plastic mass.

Spidey and Strange here are about the size of McFarlane's usual human figures, maybe slightly shorter. That said, McFarlane attempts to scale the figures to their in universe sizes in relation to base humans. I say attempt because their Elites were shorter than they should be(still a noticable size difference), though.

spidy looks 6 inches rather than mcfarlane's 7 inches . the 8 inch space marine will need to be put in a dramatic pose next to the 7 inch marine to get it to look right

Funny enough, Spidey actually IS shorter because y'know, Tom Holland.

Also as far as I am aware (I've not bought action figures for a very long time), the Bandai and McFarlane figures will be hugely different in terms of material and poseability. Hence the price difference as well as the two different representations.

McFarlanes are just slightly fancier GI Joes scaled up with a more vinyl-like plastic used that has a slight bend to it, while the Bandai will be a more solid poly or ABS type of plastic. The McFarlanes will have traditional action figure joints while the Bandai will potentially have revolving joints that are much nicer. You might even find that elements like the greaves and shoulder pads have their own joint systems to allow them to articulate outwards and inwards to allow more motion for the joints around them. MAYBE. I dunno. I'm making assumptions based on decades old experience with these kinds of items (last figures I bought were a bunch of Revoltech Patlabor mechas which were fantastic).

I have to be honest, even aside from the materials, I just think the Mcfarlane toy looks off. The helmet isn't quite right, the gorget is too low, and the bolt rifle is too large.

speaking of joints, i see they had to pull the shoulder socket out of the bandai to get this arm angle

If it's anything like the larger Revoltech figures I've seen, it isn't "popped out", it possibly has a number of reticulating/concertina'd joints that will allow it move that far naturally. But that area is too dark for me to tell.

That and the joints are probably made to be able to be "popped" out anyway. You will conceivably be able to completely disassemble all of the major parts of the figure.

Yeah, it's not popped out of socket, there's a number of different hinges there on an armature to give you more motion and posing than mass retail stuff. I was trying to get a picture of the same joint in one of my other Figuarts figures, but they all have a piece of plastic that moves with the armature to fill in that hole. Hopefully the retail version of the Primaris had a similar filler added since that proto was shown.

One of the key differences I'm seeing between the Bandai Marine and Mcfarlane's is that Mcfarlane's doesn't appear to have mu articulation, whereas Bandai's is chock full of joints. The major difference between the two will be the price, though. I hope the Mcfarlane figure was just a proof of concept mockup, because it really looked like a glorified statue. Releasing an unpainted version is a bold move thiugh.

McFarlane releasing an unpainted figure is an interesting step.

Considering how the joints on their figures have disappeared so much I'd almost be curious to see them try their hand at gaming scale figures.

Would be kind of neat.

i'm looking at this video and seeing how possible spawn is and wondering if that is an indicator on what we will see in the space marine and the rest of the future 40k figures. i feel someone walking over my grave. i think the toy devs and GW are watching our reaction of their work

I'm actually more worried about how good the marine's joints are, given how hit or miss their series are. I have Jorge(Halo) and Ryoko(Tenchi Muyo!) among a few other McFarlane(sealed) figs in the past. Both figs were used and missing a few accessories, but they both lasted longer than the new figs when I tried to pose them, and I guarantee they will last longer than TM Toys' deal with GW if they don't take their time with it.

On another note, did anyone mention if Blitzbowl will have cards for the newer teams(W.Elves, Nurgle, etc)?

Original Blitzbowl had team cards for multiple teams. I hope that the new one has cards for the remaining teams although I am not confident because many teams have individual boxes now. But it would certainly be helpful for international customers if they didn't have to purchase team boxes separately.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.
