Miniature market is having another sale. Wrath of kings starters for $10.

If you like the models and think you could use them in another game like Kings of war, you can build some big units cheap. For $100 you could get 140 vampire ladies and 80 werewolves.

Or if you like the ashmen, $100 gets you 20 boxes which is 280 ashmen including 20 leader models and 20 banner holders.

I’m tempted but I already have a ton of un assembled wok in my basement.

Yeah, $8 for 12 fat bottom girls. They could possibly be Slaanesh mortals? I use them for ghouls in pathfinder.

Thanks for the heads-up. Ended up buying a lot, although what got me to buy was a deep discount on Rackham Confrontation Fiannas. Then the Wrath of Kings stuff got added to the cart. (Bought two boxes of the Zeti previously for Kings of War.)

Question for those who already own WoK.. are the models mono-pose and what you see in the pictures are the only poses?

I am interested in the Zeti gals and the Warsmiths.. just curious how much pose duplication there is

2+2=5 for sufficiently large values of 2.

Yes and Yes. Everything uses specific shaped plugs. If you've ever handled the Warmachine plastic units, they're exactly the same.

Speaking of Warmachine there are a ton of Hordes and Warmachine models on the miniature market list as well.

Also just a quick shout out to any other local shoppers of Miniaturemarket. Due to the stay at home order their local retail shop is closed so no local pick up. Glad I checked before placing an order.

Interesting.. in the Miniature Market listings there is a photo of 1 specific pose for a model, but I found on wiki sites that there are up to 3 poses.. not bad, but..

I also found it interesting that the Goristi starter is the same price as the Zeti box, and has more models.. including the entire contents of the Zeti box

Yes to mono pose. The Zeti have 1 pose for the Dance Master and three poses for the troopers (4 of each) for 14 figures total.

Yes, I noticed that too. Since they had the core starter at $7.00, I bought two. (One for me, the 2nd for the Christmas gift exchange at the game store.) My guess is that Mini Market hopes that cheap starters might spark interest in the game, and so they won't have to take a big loss on the other sets as they are obviously doing with the core and house starters.

The starter sets generally have:
12 infantry “A” with leader x2
12 infantry “B” with leader x2 * or 6 infantry B if they are large
1 specialist “A”
1 specialist “B”

So they are definitely a better deal at $10 than the single box of infantry at $10. The Nasier ones are a bit better at $8 and $5 for the basic infantry boxes.

The starter game “Battle for Raven wood” has a few Goritsi and a few Nasier models. But also has tokens that you didn’t get with the starters. And a paper battle map.

As far as poses. I believe the infantry have 3 different poses per 6 models. And you get those 6 doubled. So 4 of each sculpt. Repetitiveness is less noticeable on the Nasier models as they are not super dynamic, but in the vampire girls, one is curtsying so you can see it when the 12 are together.

The models go together pretty well, though the last box of werewolves I had, had some gaps that I hadn’t encountered before.

Thanks for this thread! I have never felt so good dropping $100 in my hobby life.

Grabbed 2x Goritsi starters, 3x Nasier starters, and 2x Shael Han, plus loads of extras.

I've been wanting to do a Samurai Warlords of Erewon army for ages, and have some Kings of War projects in the cooker. These will make for some excellent conversion-fodder!

The dance master technically has 2 poses. Though they are almost identical. The only difference is They have a different face mask.

Edit: actually one has a human face and the other has a street fighter Vega mask.

You can also pick up one of each of the five starter sets for $10 each, plus the rulebook for $8.

The intro set is still a good price, but only contains intro rules. The miniatures overlap their starters, I think.

Seems that MM will allocate a certain number of units to a sale, so if they're sold out, the next sale may have more.

I don't even KNOW anymore.

I'll never play the game, but I'm using the miniatures for a lot of different things. For example, the Ashmen make decent Ringwraiths just by leaving off their masks.

So here's a weird question to ask AFTER ordering a mountain of the stuff... but how is the WoK's game itself? I hear the sold book is useless as free pdfs eventually changed huge swathes of it, but I have never heard much about how good the game itself is?

It failed and is no longer supported by Cmon? I enjoyed the alternate activations, different deployment zones, and model sculpts.

Unfortunately I had to bring two armies and try to convince people to play.

I found it a good game, but yes, the printed books are mostly good for fluff. The updated pdfs have the correct data. Much like Dark Age.

In fact, a lot of similarities there: Good games, excellent miniatures (or moderately OK in the case of the original Brood), rushed printed books, corrections made available for free downloads...and dead before its time.

And I have lots of both. Now I (like many others) use these miniatures as "counts as" miniatures.

It was enjoyable and played pretty fast. I had convinced my gaming group to go all in on the kickstarter. But after the kickstarter delivered there wasnt much support. We got briefly excited when the wave 2 stuff was coming out, but that was short lived. Locally there were plenty of interested people, but without much support that faded quickly too. I think initially it was a little on the expensive side too. Though I dont think it would really be considered expensive now compared to other games $70 starter is normal, if not cheap.

And the theme was right what I was looking for.

Thanks guys. Asking mostly out of morbid curiosity. At these prices these models already have a bright future in all manner of systems my wife and I play. Some really nice art direction on these, and at $0.50 - $0.33 a model, I just can't resist.

Sales like this are why I keep putting off purchases from Medge, Mantic, various KS, and others i want to support. The value is too ridiculously good. If I’m looking for 28mm stuff, I can get clearance dudes for pennies through MM instead of paying whatever Parabellum Conquest thinks a mini is worth. Forget GW. I could buy an entire army for the cost of a single GW mini.

Not that I’m complaining. I just feel a little guilty when I consider my role in the “changing retail landscape”.

Don't feel bad Bob. I enjoy my clearance as well. Mind you I'm planning on using some Pelagarth Brutes as Grotesques...

Though in terms of WoK, the gameplay is very solid. Alternating activations is a plus. The hit/would mechanic is so much more enjoyable to me than having to roll to hit, wound, and then armor saves. Everything is built into the cards for each unit. Funny enough because of these sales my brother has convinced his gaming group to pick it up!

It is a dead system though, so unless you can find folks to buy in, there isn't a whole lot of chance to get people playing. Models are still great for other systems though, can't really go wrong with werewolves, vampires, or weird steam punk octopi...

I was hoping to pick up another Hadross Nephrodons Box or two, but no such luck.

And given that Mini Market bought out all of the remaining stock from CMON, cue sad trombone!

I’ll try it. I have a bunch of unpainted werewolves and fish men ready to rumble...sans paint. Repeat: they have no paints; they like to play out with their grey out.

*Opens box again.* You are correct! I had not noticed that. Well, it's not like they are on the table. My KoW Northern Alliance army has priority as it is new with this edition and so I've only the Vanguard NA figures plus what I got in Mantic's new Starter box. The Zeti will eventually be Soul Reaver infantry for my Undead army, but as it is large, it is playable. The NA are not.

As for trying WoK, I've some interest, which is why I got the Ravenwood starter, house starters for Goritsi and Shael Han, and the cheaper character packs for each house. Have no interest in Nasier, so did not supplement their figures from Ravenwood.

As for counts as, House Hadross could be used as a KoW Trident Realm army. For instance, they have a Siren, which Mantic does not.

Eh, when it comes to rock-bottom sales kind of things, it's a result of a poorly planned or researched product - or occasionally the retailer made a mistake of buying too much stock. In any case you're helping out the retailer who's trying to clear warehouse space. There's nothing wrong with games failing - that's the fault of the designers/producers...and they're aware.
