Subject: You are Grand Admiral Thrawn. What’s your counter?
I kind of hope my fellow Dakkanauts are familiar enough with Grand Admiral Thrawn to get the gist.
If not, he’s a character from Star Wars, and a genuine tactical genius. He likes to study the art of those he plans to attack, believing it gives an insight to his prey’s mindset, allowing him to predict their actions on the field.
Now, I want you to sort of adopt that persona, if you’d be so kind. Importantly, there are no wrong answers. Just hopefully entertaining ones.
Because once you’ve adopted that mindset, I want you to interpret a music video, and describe how you think it translates into how an enemy might attack. From there, your ideal ‘don’t worry about available resources’ counter.
I’ll kick you off with some classic U.K. Ska. I did say this was a deliberately silly thread!

Passionate. Venerates the “glorious dead” with Valhalla references. Willingness to attack, perhaps reckless. References to the beauty of home country. (Midnight sun where the hotsprings flow)
Strategy: Desecrate sacred places. Provoke via emotional manipulation into a “suicide charge” for honour / revenge, into a well laid trap.

But maybe this topic is better off in OT as it seems more about pop music than Star Wars?
Too bad it has to be a music video. I’ve always wanted to see Thrawn scrutinize a book of Maplethorpe photos for strategic insight.
I guess I’s show him New Order’s True Believer. He would conquer the 80’s new wave scene like a bleeping, blooping Jenghis Khan, a synth Khan Groovien Sing, if you will.

So let's say this music is actually being played as their battle music. In that case it betrays a fatalistic sense of humor, and it's going to be hard to terrorize or intimidate people who can run at you with a clown wig and throw a pie in your face in a combat zone. You're going to just have to dump fire into them in volumes and hope you get enough of them before they can do too much damage.
Here's a song for ye: I like the idea of it for the Fedrid feral guy's I'm imagining my army around

Finally!
I heard a lot about those books for a while before I read them, then get to Thrawn and how his 'detailed analysis' of a species' ancient art lead him to determine that the ALWAYS turn left after exiting hyperspace, and thus had a perfect trap set in response and... basically couldn't take any of it seriously. His character was basically 'the author gives him the right choices always,' except when narratively convenient for a hero to 'escape' or the final act.
There is no possible line between a 'summary overview of entire species body of work' and current military strategy, let alone a specific tactic at a given moment.. 'Blue equals five minus kumquat' makes more frikkin' sense.

To be fair, a lot about Star Wars makes no sense when you break it down too far. A handful of Star Destroyers can and have sterilized the surface of planets. For that matter, a Star Destroyer could tow a sizable asteroid in at high speed and sterilize a planet that way without ever firing a shot. With that in mind, why do you need a Death Star?
Some things you just let go so you can enjoy the ride.

Well, I put my hands together and narrowed my eyes in deep thought, careful to take in situation at hand...hands...
...the tips of my fingers were doing most of the clapping and then...hmmm, sensing the motion of the song...began to sway my shoulders side-to-side, to compensate.
Captain Pellaeon then entered the room, confused. Dignity was at stake, so I straighted up sharpely, followed by a pull on the waist of my tunic and of the sleeves.
Oh! Alpha One? Using a Tie-bomber with concussion missiles to counter A-Wings? Why thats absolutely imperial! Yes...ummm......urgh.

I think the art is enormously more diverse than that of most planets, meaning this world is fractured into a vast number of competing factions. It should be child's play to get two or more of them fighting and then we'll come along and clear out the pieces.
Besides, my spies (remember, Thrawn never depended on JUST art for his information) tell me this planet is barely even space-capable, depends on primitive missiles and projectile weapons, and lacks even fusion power, blasters, or laser cannon. There's not even a planetary shield. Orbital bombardment to clean up any nuclear weapons not used in the faction war I'll trigger, and then it'll be a walkover to take whatever I want.
Assuming whatever I want can't be taken from the outer system far more cheaply and efficiently, in which case I can set a stealthy monitoring system on them and go do that instead.

in fairness the idea that Thrawn looks at a SINGLE painting is proably inaccurate for how he was supposed to be, rather the intent was he studies their culture, partiuclarly their art throughly until he understands how their minds work.
Opinions are not facts please don't confuse the two
