I wasn't planning on backing this as I'm not very happy with the looong delay on Solomon Kane, but the art design and miniatures are too cool for me to miss.

Lots of alternate poses added via stretch goals, I have no idea if the game will be fun or not, but it certainly seems ambitious.
I just love the weird dream/horror take with the historical Scandinavian flair.

This is much more along the type of narrative co-op I'd be interested in over Solomon Kane. It's go much better minis too (at least in the core, Solomon has some nice addon boxes).

Though I don't care for the whole advent calendar thing for hiding minis so you don't know what they are until you play as we already know what they are by backing the KSer. It's not going to be a surprise we've literally seen them. Plus I worry it will be annoying to unpack to look at them/paint and repack.

Seams like a gimmick that's good once only to people that didn't back. But as far as gimmicks go it's pretty tame I guess. It's not as bad as Solomon Kane's you all play as the same person gimmick and Mythic likes to have this to try and make their games have good elevator pitches.

FFFFFF...

Well they led with the goofiest bit. All the other character minis look pretty good, despite a few niggles. The monsters are very interesting - nicely sculpted and fairly original. The Treetop Ones in particular looks like someone took the almasty folklore and ran with it. Overall like 'The Ritual' with bits of Guillermo del Toro and Mike Mignola. Pretty impressive.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

The Treetop Ones are my favorites, and we've unlocked lots of alternate sculpts for them already.

Not sure the shieldmaiden counts as chainmail bikini as she has a thick bear fur over her shoulders and large shield. I think she is pretty well protected. Isn't the chainmail bikini trope about warrior woman who has no protection in combat at all?

Also, I do not see any chainmail bikini on her…

Some skandinavian Warriors preferred to fight pretty unprotected (or they could not afford good armour?). The one armed berserker has not any more protection as the shield maiden?

Also, where is the snow? None of the map pieces show any snow…

I like the horror themed monsters in this game. Much better than your regular orks and whatnot.

Mythic said that all of the gameplay elements come in the base box, so this KS should be pretty cheap as far as miniatures heavy kickstarters go.
There will be add ons, but they will all be cosmetic. No gameplay elements hidden behind the paywall.
The camp map most likely gets the neoprene threatment in an add on would be my guess.

I have the results of the last chamber: You are a horrible person.
That's what it says: A horrible person...

Well I have to say some of the artwork, the concept, the general design is some of the most impressive I have seen for a game (let alone a Kickstarter). It's beautiful.

I wonder if it will be something that is less intense/intent on ripping you a new part of your anatomy that Kingdom Death was, and therefore good for a more casual gaming group.

I just assumed the chainmail bikini was just a Red Sonja homage.

Also I'd sworn off any more mini heavy games after Bloodborne and Etherfields but the theme of this just fits my tastes so perfectly I had to.

Are the mini's from Mythic any good? Assuming PVC. I put in a for dollar so I could see the PM and shipping costs after.

That's some list you compiled there. I like it.

- It's not so much about protection this time, at least not protection against sharp weapons. It's more about running around in beachwear in a wintry northern forest. Even if your shoulders are well insulated.

- and there's no such thing as chainmail. It's just called mail.

- some fought with no protection, but I hear they had to get hepped up on shrooms first. And, yeah, half-naked guy carrying a six-foot slab of steel is one of the niggles I mentioned. But they didn't lead with him.

- see Monkeysloth's reply.

Just in case it's buried under a potential threadful of tit-for-tat, I did say these models are good. Just a few wobbles. Nothing's free of wobbles.

I was looking at the main board, but yes, there seems to be snow in the wilderness tiles, so I conceed on the snow. There is plenty of it. (I was looking at the sea of grey plastic instead of the painted ones, which do have snow bases... )

Call it chainmail or mail, still not seeing it. Under the leather perhaps.
She is a shield maiden. That implies she uses the big frigging shield on her back to cover her in the combat. The heavy bear pelt covers the rest. And keeps her warm. It just seems that she prefers mobility and freedom of movement in combat, trusting the shield to protect.
Far cry from Red Sonja, who is the chainmail bikini model. (And the source of the trope?)

Edit: this is my last post on this subject to avoid the tit-for-tat situation. Just agree to disagree, right?

I really like the looks of the enemies.

That said I've got way more Viking style stuff than I'll reasonably need any time soon, and Trudvang from CMON will hopefully still come to fruition.

But man, those monster designs.. heck the whole thing's art direction is really nice.

Going to keep an eye on this one.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Wait... which ones are Mythic games again? Aside from Solomon Kane are they the guys that were in with Monolith for Conan initially? Or was than Panthenon? I'm confused...

They did Mythic Battles: Pantheon with Monolith (who had previously done Conan).

Since then they've done Joan of Arc, Reichbusters, Solomon Kane, Super Fantasy Brawl. JoA and Reichbusters are either done and delivered, or at least mid delivery for the latter.

IIRC, Mythic and Monolith collaborated on Conan and Mythic Battles: Pantheon. Then they split, with Monolith retaining the rights to both games.

Not too confident about either company.

Mythic didn't exist at the time of Conan. The founders were contractors or employees of Monolith. Leo was the person doing all the updates and communicating with backers who then left. Which is why Monolith went to horribly poor communication for a while after production started (Matt John replaced him well after delivery of Conan). Mythic formed sometime after the funding of Conan and they partnered with Monolith on Mythic battles (Monolith was their publisher basically and provided expericen working with China) but they split due to Monolith not wanting to take Mythic Battles to retail after the Conan flop. So Mythic sold their part of the brand to Monolith and did Joan of Arc.

This is from the OG Mythic Battles Kickstarter:

We are actually not one but two companies. Monolith is the publisher of the very successful Conan board game, who broke records when it was launched on Kickstarter and whose first wave has just been delivered to backers (everything but the 3 expansions which will arrive soon). Since Monolith's team was so busy coping with Conan's extraordinary success which meant much more work than expected, another team was gathered to work on a new project so a new company was created: Mythic Games.

Having played Reichbusters this week, I was not impressed, half the time people were on their mobile phones too. Minis are gorgeous though! Game that day one had so much FAQ...won't even mention JoA.

My though of Mythic so far, avoid. They do make great minis, but rest of package(actual game) is mediocre at best.

Yeah, I doubt the game will be much good. I backed for the cool and thematic miniatures in a scale that meshes well with the rest of my fantasy stuff.
If the game turns out good, that is just a bonus.

I'm in the same boat. Have not been impressed by the gameplay of the stuff Mythic has released, but man do they have great looking models.

Sometimes I wish these board game companies would just put out thematic boxes of figures like Blacklist Games did with their recent kickstarter.

Come to think of it, that Blacklist one was a pretty successful campaign too.

Fun designs. The wolf pelts have got to be my favorites re: interesting designs, and the diminutive bear with scale helmet has got to be the goofiest.

If whenever this ships someone's interested in cannibalizing it, would be happy to work something out for some of the pieces.

Surprised as Reichbusters is listed at Jake Thornton for the designer.

Seams like Joan is their best reviewed game (Mythic Battles is Monolith now and was just a redesign of an older game by the original designer) and that one seams to be pretty hit or miss for some people (I think the updated rules they did last year helped).

Pretty much why I have a rule to only buy into KSer games that I know the parts are reusable for other things.
