3 days remain from the time of this posting - ENDS SOON
(images from Comixology - sorry about the largish size)

Groupees are running a big Humanoids bundle of digital comics, this includes a huge swathe of the Metabaron series of comics (the whole original run, the weapons book and the entire current new arc that's in development which only has 2 more books to go which are coming out later this year). Metabarons fanatically drawn space opera set against a futuristic setting which blends scifi with an element of spiritual magic in a subtle way.

Spoiler:

There's also The Legend of the Scarlet Blades which is part of a series of comics (sadly others don't appear in this, but if you get the chance it leads into Izuna*) set in an asian fantasy setting. Again the artwork is top rate and it gives you a very different story set against a mystical world where the legends and mythical creatures are steadily being pushed back by the advance of humanity. It's a very different story setting, but (esp the Izuna series that follows this) I get a distinct "Princess Mononoke" style influence.

Spoiler:

The top tier is only $15 and they've unlocked loads of extras (the second metabarons unlocks at $12K and they are already at 11.5 and will make it to the end pretty certainly).

Along with the Metabarons there's the Incal series (the sci-fi investigator series set in the same world setting as metabarons), Ignited, Carthago, Metal Hurlant, Moonface and many more.

Also whilst the top tier is $15 there's one (only one) more item above that. A single copy of the Limited Deluxe Slipcase Edition of the Metabarons, which is limited to only 1500 numbered copies. Which goes to whoever pledges the most money in the campaign (currently stands at $100 and like ebay bids its likely to go up on the last day/hours). This is still sold (Amazon, Humanoids website) for around $150, which would likely be the least value the groupees will rise to on the last day.

* which I found the artwork so good that its one of the very few comics that I actually bought in physical form after reading the digital.

It's Alejandro Jodorowsky's reworked concepts for Dune when he couldn't do Dune. I'm not sure 'subtle' is a term that applies.

Just bought the whole set of Incal and Metabarons elsewhere, but I'm interested in the rest of the books in that setting (half of which I didn't know existed) and Metal Hurlant books, too. Heck, I think I can stretch to 15 bucks for charity.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

This is a pretty cool deal, but unfortunately I’m just not able to force myself to read digital books. Still tempted anyway for the Jodorosky stuff, and to see if my wife wants to read Barbarella avec moi ce soir...but past experience tells me it will be a waste.

Yeah I think if the value was blazing past $12K then Humanoids might have added them steadily as well, but its looking like its just going to reach the $12K target, which is honestly quite respectable for Groupees as they are not a big name - heck unlike if humble did this there's likely many who don't check on groupees or know of them to know the bundle is out. Though that said they seem to have a better handle on the MMO market - their current MMO bundle is selling at an insane rate.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
They've just hit the $12K and unlocked all the newest Metabaron comics currently pubilshed. They've added a $15K target now to unlock Volumes 1 through to 8 of Technopriests - set in the same world as the Metabarons.

Currently sitting at ~$13500, about $1500 short of unlocking Technopriests with ~24 hours remaining. As this is my first bundle, I'm not really sure what the dynamics of this are. Is it like kickstarter where we can reasonably expect a last minute surge in pledges or whatever or is it unlikely we'll unlock technopriests?

It's not like KS; you get the product as soon as you pay so there's no reason to hold or wait. There will be a surge somewhat with those who left it till the last moment and there might be a small bidding war for the top prize if people want to "fight" for it. But as it still retails at around $150 I can't see many people wanting to risk spending that much and losing by $1 at the last moment when they can just get it brand new from the Humanoids store.

That said its something like a 100 more backers at the top level to unlock. So in theory that can be achieved; it just means spreading the word as much as you can (without spamming) to other people and interest groups.

Sometimes Groupees also extend the deadlines if they feel there's reason and if the person sponsoring (in this case humanoids) feels its worth it.

I've been sharing it around various 40k groups on facebook, etc. pitching it as "some of these comics influenced the early development of 40k in the Rogue Trader era"

Beginning to wonder if Alejandro Jodorowsky ever had a thought that wasn't chemically altered. I mean, did he have angel dust mixed into his Cow & Gate, or what?
