I haven't ordered in 2020, but in the past you when you did pick up at store it would be shipped to the store in a box addressed to you and they would email the tracking number. I would regularly have FedEx redirect the box to a local FedEx store for pickup and be able to get it 2-3 days before release. Was especially convenient as the closest GW was about 45 minutes away.

Hmm... rumor has it that the Guard has lost the Griffon again. I wonder if it's gonna be a FW book mini or finally get canned?
To be honest, I've always preferred them over the Bassie.

As do I, but GW doesn't make the mini any more, so off to Legends they go.

I will be camping out at my Warhammer store about an hour before they open to make sure I get mine on Saturday morning. I have a deal with a friend where I am going to give him the Necrons and I am taking the Marines. They will make a nice addition to my Crimson Fists(Eradicators, Bikes, the LTs, and one squad of Bladeguard go here) and Blood Angels(The Assault Intercessors, a Judiciar, and the other squad of Bladeguard go here).
GW needs to hurry up and make a Primaris Pedro Kantor already. My Crimson Fists army would be 100% Primaris if they did. I wouldn't mind a Primaris Dante either.
As for the Chapter Update for Edge of Silence, it is really dumb that they didn't cover the Deathwing and Ravenwing rules for the Indomitus stuff. Same with giving the Deathwatch Marines Special Issue Ammunition (which affects every model in the set besides the Lieutenant). I dunno, it just seems extremely half-assed.
Honestly, I am not expecting a new Marine codex at this point. I am expecting a supplement book that covers all these new units for every Marine army. We just had a new Marine codex with a bunch of supplemental material that would be screwed up by a new codex. A book that adds on to every Marine codex seems more likely.

Also I’m still disappointed we didn’t get Primaris Vulkan He’stan.

Yet. I wouldn't be surprised if we don't see a second wave of Primaris character models. They were (despite what some might believe) pretty well received (one STILL can't get ahold of Tor Garadon from GW). I suspect we will see models from official Chapters that either didn't get one (Black Templars, Crimson Fists, Flesh Tearers) but also updates of models that didn't get one (Lysander, Vulkan, Dante, Azrael). Time will tell.
Edit: I think this wave will extend to other armies as well. Updated Phoenix Lords, Tyranids (Lictors with an option for Deathleaper), Orks, and others should see new models, hopefully.

I don't think there are any FW legends thus far.
They might actually be squatted without keeping matched-play rules in a Legends-style format.

Legends have been for index units that didn't make it to non-index book.
There's been zero 8th ed books to replace FW index. Thus there's not been logical time to put FW units to legends. With new books coming up the time is as indexes will be replaced.

Surely any units in the old indexes that don’t get updated in newer publications can still use those rules.

You use most recent publication. GW used to have flowchart allowing to use from old index units that weren't in new one but that got flat out removed with legends so you can't use that anymore.
So if they don't exist in new FW books nor in legends they are gone for good. Of course most likely is legend. That's where stuff without models on sale goes.

There's no real precedent for that as models go in 8th (though there is for Strats disappearing, e.g. Kill Shot not being in Space Marines 2.0).
Historically, people considered units disappearing as "squatted", e.g. Dark Eldar characters like Vect disappearing in their updated 2014 7th Ed. Codex didn't get to play with their 2010 5th Ed. Codex rules. Same for Doom of Malan'tai, etc.., etc..

Ended up cancelling my MTO box and just bought the Necron half of the box off of eBay, which arrived today.
Some nice marine models but most likely would have just ended up gathering dust in a cupboard, and I have been on a bit of a Necron painting thing recently which I didn't want to interrupt, so decided I'd rather paint up the Indomitus ones next rather than just buy some random old Necron models (which would mostly be chosen due to stock availability). Hopefully by the time I'm close to finishing the Indomitus models the new Necron stuff will have been released.

Huh, so apparently i just found (buried in the customer services part of their website) that unless you order for delivery to store, they do not ship pre orders until the Monday AFTER the release date. So, no new shiny models for me until Tuesday it seems.
1) That is insane. I think they are the first company i have seen that do not at least TRY and get pre orders to people on release date, and
2) WHy is this not made clearer somewhere more obvious on the website? I had to go digging in the Customer Services FAQs around pre orders to find this out.
I absolutely would have ordered for collection in store if i had known.

Because they did make a big production of it years ago when they changed their policy and I guess they expect people to remember?
Also, do you not check the shipping FAQs for every shop you order from online as a matter of course?
That said, despite that being their policy, I’ve regularly received the goods on the day of release anyway so cross your fingers…

its been that way for 10 years now, it is their way to save money and get people to go into their stores
and for future pre-orders, be aware that orders made on the release weekend are done before pre-orders are proceeded, so if a product does not sold out on pre-order already but does on release day, the pre-order is delayed further
and GW does a lot of things that are only acceptable because it is GW but will cause a massive Shitstorm if someone else do it

I would go for wyvern. They are both mortars after all, it seems more suitable. Plus, the wyvern was just a way for them to make a griffon-style vehicle into a dual kit with a hydra anyway.

They’re just covering their backs. I’ve had preorders direct from GW arrive on the Saturday of release loads of times. As recently as the Daemonifuge stuff. I’ve also had stuff arrive on the Monday after release too so I guess it’s the luck of the draw.
