On an Express Elevator to Hell!!

I'm sure that lots of GW customers know nothing about the garage-business of selling BFG-type ships.
I'm constantly amazed by the amount of people that love Epic and still play but don't know anything about Vanguard miniatures, Onslaught etc. and the host of other companies making miniatures compatible with that game. None of it is particularly well marketed and is very much a niche gaming corner.
So if an 'official' release came out and got similar treatment to Necromunda or Adeptus Titanicus, I'm sure it would sell very well.
TBH I shouldn't think GW care much or even know about those resin prints on Shapeways, it's probably just a case of finding a gap in the schedule and then at some point BFG will make a re-appearance (hopefully with a nerf of the Eldar power ! )

The problem with the Genestealer expansion for Space Hulk was the addition of hybrids with big guns, taken from the old Chaos heavy weapon sprue. It turned the game into ‘Fragile hybrid steps out. Marine overwatch usually splatters said hybrid. If by a miracle it should miss or jam, hybrid splatters you with conversion beamer.’ Boring!

The problem with Deathwing was the psychic rules were horribly overpowered, routinely cleansing entire room sections with ease. Game over man, game over. Boring!

And don’t even get me started on the lousy additions from White Dwarf like Space Marines, Orks, etc. Yeah, it was great idea to send in the Imperial Guard to face ‘stealers in close quarters. Such fun when the stealers roll 3D6 in close combat and you were rolling 1D6-3... made for a lot of tense moments...Not!

In short, pretty much everything Space Hulk other than the base game and extra Terminator v. Genestealer missions and campaigns were poorly thought out and executed.

This is all true.. although I still enjoyed Deathwing for some of the extra weapons, and the campaign (which went along with the awesome Bill King short story) was worth the price of that boxset.

Just to add the Drop Fleet Resistance fleet is the first kit I've seen that I would call authentically better than the BFG ones. It's one of my favorites of all time.

=][= certainly needs a reprint, as does Mordheim.

As for non GW games- Vor: The Maelstrom. They attempted a reboot just before the time Kickstarters were a licence to print money for tabletop games. Nothing since and not sure why it hasn't been attempted again.

Void. The game that got me out of the GW ecosystem. Such a good game and so much in its groundwork was to what a lot of people believe 40k "should" be today (D10s, alternate activation etc.) This one is actually on the verge of happening though as Scotia Grendel (who currently own the molds) are in the process of transferring them to Seb Games who want to reboot the game too.

Lastly. Relic Knights. Currently stuck in Kickstarter purgatory. Pretty good game with a good concept and a unique look. Please, Ninja Division- just sell the bloody game to CMON or something and they can produce it.

I find the Space Station kit to be every bit as rich and flexible for building kitbashes. The Resistance starter and the Space Station kit are the two Dropfleet kits I would recommend to everyone who loves building spaceships.

That said, the PHR kit is amazing for kitbashing kinda-Battlefleet Gothicish-Imperial-style ships, with cruiser- and light cruiser-sized prows (troop carrier and f(n) weapon armor, respectively), tons of broadside weapons, and tons of “lances”.

Nearly forgot...

Given their popularity and significance to board gaming in general, I'd have to say Hero Quest and Space Crusade. Apparently its a rights issue over the names and Hasbro sucked in MB games, but even still both games deserve a second lease of life.

Mine are all GW as I never got into non-GW board gaming until later in life.

First for me is Epic. Sadly, I think this is the least likely to come back. I know some people see Adeptus Titanicus as heralding the return of Epic but I think Geedbus will maintain that as it's own self contained game. GW doesn't want anything that could potentially eat into the sales of their main line models and would prefer people play Epic sized games at 28mm using battle systems like Apocalypse, as ludicrous and expensive as that is. I believe that's why Epic was allowed to die in the first place.

Second is Battlefleet Gothic. I am a lot more hopeful for this one as there is a big following and the recent computer games will have drummed up some additional interest. However, I get the sneaking suspicion it will not be set during the Gothic War and will be set in the Horus Heresy like Adeptus Titanicus meaning we will only see Imperial and renegade ships and no xenos ships.

Space Hulk as a game that receives continual support and expansions and not a limited edition thing that comes out once a decade. I think this one is fifty fifty. On the one hand, we've seen the resurrection of Necromunda which uses it's own Forge World models, but on the other hand it seems Kill Team is going to get killed off by the new "scaleable" version of 9th. it's another avenue to sell mainstream plastic models, but also could possible be perceived as treading on the toes of 9th edition Combat Patrol (even though it should be a different game). I feel that the idea behind the scaleability of 9th is to bring all the mainstream plastic models under one system, with specialist games being solely the domain of Forge World models. There's definitely demand for Space Hulk The last time it came out it sold out within 24 hours online.

People tend to forget that Space Hulk worked well because it involved two asymmetric forces combined with a tightly written ruleset. That was what made it a classic. It started to break down, and even outright suck when you added non Terminator and non Genestaler forces and ranged combat on both sides. Be careful what you wish for. While I agree the game should be available, skip the expansions. They were horrible.

Lordy, wasn't that back in the Rogue Trader days when they added Eldar, Harlequins, Space Marines and Orks? So they say, anyway...

To be honest, I doubt it would ever get that far with Space Hulk. They seem to chuck out a new print every so years.

.

You might be thinking of Advanced Space Crusade. I only remember the Death Wing and Genestealer additions. Death Wing was okay (appearance of Lightning Claws, Thunderhammer and the like), but with Genestealer, it went off the rails with the psychic sub game and the various hybrids with weapons.

Yupp, Advanced Space Crusade had rules for many factions & models.

IMHO, Space Hulk was at its best with Deathwing expansion + power armoured marines (rules & campaing was on some white dwarf issue IIRC). Genestealer introduced those ridiculous cards and shooting genestealers, ended up changing things too much and effectively ruined the game.

Perhaps the psyker rules in deathwing were OTT, but those could be easily toned down.. Everything else worked pretty well.

The reissue rules are pretty faithful to the og rules, except for the "bracing" action that marines can now do.. Not sure I like it as it gives marines extra handicap in CC (and marines were deliberately much worse in CC than stealers, its why the game worked!)

Would love to see Babylon 5 again, even though there is absolutely zero chance of that happening!
Starship Troopers was such a great game and a shame it didn't persist, it almost felt like a prototype Infinity in terms of how the units reacted to each other, I think was quite ahead of its time.

Hook, line, sinker, and a copy of Angling Times there, sir.
It's funny to think now but at one time Epic was one of the big three. I still remember going into stores and seeing 40k, WHFB and Epic each on their own section of the wall.
But, like you say, that 'scale' of combat is now taking place at 28mm, and people that want to collect entire tank companies, titans etc. have to do it in that scale. Even though really the 6mm was soooooo much better suited (and I don't think it's controversial to say the rules, for both Space Marine and Epic: Armageddon, worked better too).
Another reason is the volume of SKUs, can you imagine how much work it would be to get even 50% of the 40k lineup into 6 or 8mm scale? It would take a massive effort on behalf of the design studio, not to mention the increased size of catalogue, distribution to retailers etc.
The other 'Specialist' games have a much more confined scope in terms of miniature range - most importantly, they don't impinge on the existing 'core' ranges of 40k and WHFB, but rather supplement them (you can buy a Warcry warband before moving into AoS, etc.)

Epic in stores, that brings back memories!

I totally get remaking the entire 40k range in Epic scale would be a huge and potentially risk investment for Geedubs. It's a pity they didn't use the Horus Heresy to "bring back" Epic. The scale seems to fit the setting more and there's essentially only one range they would have to make (Space Marines).

Eh for a years GW was using Epic models to make 40K ideas and concepts - so they did it once. The only area that Epic might have less variety is in troops because they are ever so much smaller and not as easily told apart. Vehicles and such they had a huge bounty of.

Yeah, put me on the list of people not remembering anything inherently wrong with BFG, so a straight reprint would be more than adequate. make a boxed sprue that allows you to make, say 4 ships of various builds, 1 of each major size class, for each race and you'd have a solid winner.

Now as far as MODELS I'd like to see reprinted? I think the frames from all the starter sets would be an immediate port of call. Instant vs. battle in a box, give it a palatable price point, and off to the races you go.

You mean Weapons and Warriors? It was awesome. They also had a pirate version that I owned as a kid. When it finally buckled under use, I used the pieces for terrain in for my various tabletop games.

As far as game I'd like to see again, it was simple and cheaply made, but Bumper 2 Bumper: Real Life Stock Car Racing.

That's a great idea to re-launch the Horus Heresy. Like you say full-circle, and would tie in nicely with Adeptus Titanicus too.

I'm kind of doing that off my own efforts using Vanguard Miniatures (which look suspiciously like old-armour mark marines!) but it would have been nice to have something official, even if it would have made it somewhat less affordable!
