Haha Freya good to see I'm not the only one on Dakka who binged BNA this weekend. The color scheme on the guns looks interesting, are you sticking with the Space Wolves for the rest of the armour scheme? Does kinda fit in with BNA, heh.

Here's my first sister, still lots of details missing but I think I'll work on the others now. Also they're getting seapunk/grunge hair because why not.

I like the warm (sepia) shading on the cool white armor. That's a neat effect.

Now showing various models from the previously abandoned projects!

Painting total as of 25 May 2025: 67plus a Deva King statue

Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

Did you link the wrong picture? Neither appear to have anything to do with the webway or the ObSec theme.

Although I guess if you stretch the theme a bit and take some interpretational liberties, I suppose you could say any character model "possess the gear, skills,or sheer tenacity and hardiness,to hold, vital strategic points, or press forward and wrest soch locations from the enemy's grasp."

It does seem a bit sneaky of the coordinator to change the theme description after voting, since most people are going off of the original description: "Battles are won by more often than not by holding vital ground, key strategic locations., and it generally falls to the rank and file of an army to take such positions. Your entry should consist of such troops, be they mindless minion, conscripted masses or simply those whose role it os to take and hold the line."

I honestly didn't even notice they had done that until I went looking just now to see how those three would fit in.

I think they are the new super soldiers to deepstrike with the webway ability and kill the units near the objective to secure it.
But maybe you are right.actually szeras is not suit the theme.
I will only make stern&kyganil to attend the event.

Still some way to go on these before I pick which 5 to submit. Either these, or some of the other 20 I printed at the same time. Plenty of choices!

Those look really good. Where did you get the files for printing? I don't own a 3D printer, but I am considering getting one as a cheaper alternative for the infantry heavy IG.

Well, they certainly look like unpainted Wraithbone constructs now. I'm curious to see what other colors will be added to make them really pop.

I love your sister. The armor is so hard to do. I still can't do white armor lol!

I'm planning to do a little bit of a diverging theme. Have some colorshift metalics coming in... but the armor color will just be the standard colors. Primaris are so much less interesting to paint than any spacewolves model and it makes me bored. I need to do something interesting!!!!

The models are from Reptilian Overlords with some guns from Thingiverse. The Elegoo Mars is a great investment if you want an infantry heavy force. Those 10 cost about £1.10 in resin to print

Thanks! That's incredibly cheap for 10 guys compared to most normal models. I don't have a printer right now as I said, and I probably won't have the money for a decent one in the near future, but I know a place in town that has printers available. About how much time does a ten man squad normally take to print?

Base colors done, drybrushing done, working thorugh the layers of washes. If I can keep up the pace, these guys should be done mid-month, and not racing in under the wire like I normally do.

To clarify, the wording of the theme is never meant to be restrictive, it's always 100% open to interpretation with the initial title and description just meant as guidelines to spark ideas. In the 65 rounds so far I've only ever turned maybe 3 entries away for being so far from the theme that they're not at all relevant. in general the rule of thumb is that if you think your entry fits, it almost certainly does! Apologies for the confusion, I forget sometimes that every month we get new people joining who might not be familiar with how we generally do things and so these bits go unmentioned.

Fair enough. I'm usually one of those people that overanalyzes and has a strong tendency of adherence to given rules with some bend for ease of access and fun, so seeing them changed after the group decision was a bit of a take back. I understand the desire to be more inclusive through allowing vague interpretation of the descriptions like this, it's just in my nature to feel off about it when it comes to competitions like this, even friendly ones.

Of course, I have to question why there's even a theme at all if you're just going to stretch it to allow almost anything to be entered. If you don't have a theme, no one can complain. They choose their own model entry so they can't feel snubbed if they pick something significantly harder than anyone else, no one feels forced out if they don't have any models that fit the "theme" or want to paint something else from their list, and no one has to come up with a stretched explanation of how their choice "fits" somehow. If everyone can just paint what they want you'll probably get more participation in the end and you'll get to see a much wider variety of cool models.

I think the theme is there as an inspiration, and possibly a measure to prevent submissions that are ripped pictures from web or previously painted models.

Having a theme also helps give a little structure to the voting. I’ve voted for technically less well done models over better paint, just because them embodied the theme a lot better.

It also helps to gently stretch our comfort zones for what we paint. There is stuff I entered that would still be gracing the pile of shame if not for this contest. By keeping the theme open, we ensure that most people can probably find something in their backlog that fits. Or give them an excuse to pick up something fun and new.

It keeps things fresh. If it was just enter something random every month, I doubt we would still be going strong.

While a competition, this is more about community and improving ourselves as painters. If someone is stretching the theme to enter, it’s not because they are gaming the system to win, it’s because they want to join us and play, and that’s what they have that (kinda) fits the theme. Our goal is to be inclusive, not exclusive.

I'm almost done just need to finish highlighting. All the colours will be contrast with a single highlight apart from hair and belts.
As always feedback is very much welcome and appreciated.

Exactly!
If not for the contest I wouldn't of resumed my DE. Theme makes you think and pull out unfinished backlog pile.

Looking good, cant really add anything of note other than recommend true blood paints that make the blood effect perfect and semi-shiny.
