My only desire for change is some way of viewing only pictures of completed/painted minis. I seem to get a lot of photos of the back of a leg (often blurred) on a sprue. I know these are just WIP pics from someone's blog though and it's not too onerous to just move to the next one.

There sort of is, but it relies on users marking the 'Disable voting' box when they upload their WIP pics.

Would it be possible to have voting disabled be the default and require uploaders to choose to enable voting on their pictures? @Kid_Kyoto

I'm pretty sure 99% of WIP pictures up for voting is not pictures that people want rated, but just that they didn't notice the option. It would motivate me at least to do more rating of pics, if I could avoid getting so much unpainted and clearly unfinished stuff popping up.

The counter argument is that voting is how the site ranks searches, so models without votes tend to vanish into the aether.

I’ll post more WIP pics and try to get those numbers up. And maybe be the 1 millionth. That’d be fun.

Thanks for asking!

Tags are certainly the most useful thing to add both for searches on Dakka and for search engines. I don't know how many times I've been looking for some information or ideas and google had brought me back here with the image I was looking for.

It's more of an art than a science, but usually I like to put game/manufacturer, faction and whatever unique point I see about the image. Basically what might people be looking for whens searching.

WIP shots are also really useful, even if you don't want to expose them for votes they're good for anyone wanting to see how a model was done or what it looked like raw.
Thanks for this info, and thanks for modding the gallery. Here's to a million more!

Ive also for a bunch of pics of games in progress from battle reports that I wouldn't be interested in having votes on.
The easiest thinking is to sort your personal gallery and have a Work In Progress gallery and a Battle Reports gallery. Then you can select Disable Voting on each of them. This will apply to every image in the gallery and will automatically apply to any image you move into those galleries too.

And now that’s stuck in my head. Not that I’m complaining, just wanted to let you know your work was well done.

Uploaded another pic, doing my part. After all, with the quarantine

The Dakka gallery is really impressive, and the ability to add to it and maintain my blog has always been my main motivation for posting here. My blog is nearly ten years old now, and would not be if it were not for the gallery.

Also, Kid Kyoto, I've always appreciated the comments you have posted on my gallery images, thank you!

Edit: Also, as of this moment there are 1,000,022 images in the gallery!

I mean, I know you have a smiley face there, so not entirely serious, but you've looked through this thread, right?

And per Legoburner, the millionth image is...

(Drumroll)

Whatever that is!

A video game? A real model with some digital elements? Tactics guide? I can't zoom in on the text to read it...

Well whatever it is, congratulations Lord of the Swarm!

And thanks to all the great contributors over the years, it really is a great resources and a pleasure to tend to.

Given the bases and the meeple logo on top, probably one of those (with or without permissions) board game simulators so you can play remote (and/or because you don't want to buy the game...)?

He's got a thread for it, he was demonstrating a specific tyranid tactic for 9th edition using tabletop simulator . Pretty cool actually!

https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/790270.page

However, that thread and the images in that gallery were seemingly uploaded on July 23rd, so I'm hoping we can confirm if this really is the millionth image or not. Really cool use of TTS regardless though! The same poster has a nice active P&M blog here:

Lego mentions that people can delete images so it is possible that it was the millionth image posted historically but not the millionth active image.

Maybe?

Anyway since there's no money and no prize I won't lose sleep over it.

Congrats Lord of the Swarm.

I need to look at that simulator, is it an update of Vassel?

TTS I believe is unrelated to Vassel, though yeah people have done some impressive work modeling games in it, from what I've seen.

Not everyone comes here for the pretty pictures.
But also, I'm curious as to how accurate that is... I'm sure I've voted on more than 31 (at time of writing), and there are a handful of pictures that seem to keep cropping back up when I use "random image" for some reason.

I judge them way less than people who vote on their own pieces (almost invariably 10s, visible when they comment).

I too love the fact that the gallery never stops growing. I gotta get back to dumping photos of stuff nobody's heard of on it.

The next major milestone should be one million Kid Kyoto comments on images in the gallery.

Get to work Kid!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!
