I know that GW promotes up from their retail stores (to their credit, I will say) but has anyone from GW America ever been promoted over to the higher ranks or more coveted jobs?

It would take some serious dedication to the hobby to move to another country for it. I imagine the number of people willing to do so is quite small, and the number of qualified people among that group even smaller. Which is to say I'm not sure GW has had many opportunities to do that even if they were looking to do so.

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

I know of at least TWO Aussies who moved to the US (they were part of GW Oz for so long, then they went to head up the US side of things.). 'Course, neither of them are STILL with GW these days. They left when GW decided to close and relocate their US head office.
Don't know of any Americans who crossed the pond, though.

Current editor of White Dwarf, Lyle Lowery, previously worked for Privateer Press and has also moved to the UK.

There's also Josh Reynolds, a former BL author, who is another former US resident now living in the UK.

Chris Fitzpatrick, who designed the 6th ed Fantasy Dark Elves, was an American. He got the job by blindly sending test sculpts to GW that they then had to pay import tariffs to receive without knowing what the package was or who sent it.

I had a meeting once with Ernie Baker and asked him how one would become a designer with GW. He replied that I would have to move to England, probably live in abject poverty while trying to get my foot in the door at GW, then 10 to 15 years working whatever jobs I could just to get a chance at being hired.

I think he was exaggerating, but the point he was trying to make is that it is almost impossible.

Was there any pipeline between US-produced things like the Sabretooth card games and FFG and GW?

It seems some ideas from those games made it back into GW's proper releases.

Sabertooth had entire offices at Warhammer World. Several years back, in what was kinda a massive security breach; myself and my housemate, who worked for GW went up to WHW as he was collecting a load of Sabertooth's Street Fighter cards right from their offices. Guy on the front desk just assumed we both worked for GW and we get our photo IDs. I'm walking around their studio and one of their staffers mentions getting discount on their product as well as GW main. I start to say "But I don't wor..." and get the hardest kick in the shin from my housemate.

Related question, how many Americans (if any) have written for the Black Library?

For that matter how many non-Brits, or non-Commonwealth folks?

A really great guy named Owen Branham used to live near me in Pennsylvania. He made the transition to store manager in Philly and then moved away. last I heard he was working at Forge World and I saw some of his work in publications over the years.

One of the only other muscle car/ wargamer guys I ever met. Our gaming seen took a great loss when he left.
