Privateer Press have announced that the second wave Warcaster Kickstarter Live now until 5th November
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/privateerpress/warcaster-collision-course

This KS follows their first which has shipped the first wave to customers and is shipping the second wave right now (basically parcels are at different world hubs for delivery or nearly on their way there). It adds new units, such as light hover tanks, to each of the 3 existing armies and a brand new alien faction, the Empyreans. There's also new play modes, new alternative poses, upgrades and more

More photos of new things from the KS for all factions. Note that the new light vehicles are on 80mm bases, which should give you some idea of how big they are!

Spoiler:

Scythe for the Aeternus Continuum

Razorbat for the Marcher Worlds

Interceptor for the Iron Star Alliance

Zenith for the Empyreans

Also this might help those who are confused about the Quartermaster rewards
Spoiler:

The image shows the level across the top for your pledge. Each pledge has a rank (bronze, silver or gold) which is shown in the main window just under its title where it describes what is within the pledge tier. You can then see the two categories (armoury and provision) which will get credit rewards. Each different armoury has different things you can get for free with your credits.

Along the side you can see the reward tiers in monetary value (stretch goal targets) showing how many credits you get at each level.
Note you only get one set of rewards based on the pledge tier you back for, even if you spend more money during the KS. The only way to get two reward amounts would be to pledge using two separate KS accounts for two reward tiers (PP confirmed this is a limitation of the system back-end - but essentially it means each backer gets 1 set of rewards where the more they spend they more they get up to a limit).

For reference here are the rewards

Really interested in seeing how this goes, and if this model is sustainable for PP. The first KS was always gonna do good things, a new game from an established player. This will be the real test.

I just can't get past repeat poses in 3-man units. Argh, I know it sounds like a "Get off my lawn" thing... but my grass needs sunlight

What's most impressive is PP managed to pull the first KS off during a Corona year. With all the global level disruption they've still managed to get it out the door broadly on time and in keeping with their targets. Which is seriously impressive work for a model kickstarter. Granted they are being more manageable with them rather than one campaign with dozens of models per army all at once. So they are being sensible and taking bite-sized chunks. Right now I think the only thing that would slow delivery of a 3rd KS would be local lockdowns for them or the KS being a runaway success and basically having a VAST amount of orders.

I really hope the model is working and continues to work for them. Though I also hope that they can also get it on the highstreet as well and into regular game stores and supply chains.

Eh. I felt that way too until I really sat down with the rules.

15 units plus 3 Hero solos, no more than 4 of any specific unit in your force(including warjacks based off the same chassis no matter how differently equipped they are) goes a long way.

Without going too far into the game(a single Marcher Worlds starter set with no paid add-ons just the variant Hunter solo), I'm at 5 units.
-Dusk Wolf
-Ranger Fire Team
-Coalition Weaver
-Hunter variant
-Hunter from the box

If I grab a second starter, I end up with a second Dusk Wolf, Fire Team, Weaver, and a third Hunter. That nabs me 3/5 of my total units without really having a whole lot of repetition going. And that doesn't include the Combat Engineer, Ranger Fire Support Team, or the Raptor Heavy Warjack or the previewed Infiltrators!

My personal issue was that I would have liked to see a few more faction specific Heroes before mercs got out into the wild.

One of the neat side effects of releasing via kickstarter is that it allows the public to track and measure growth. I'm excited to see how this campaign runs, as it could potentially reveal whether or not Privateer Press has a hit on their hands and has managed to bring gamers back to their table, or if they are treading water by recirculating their existing fanbase. The indicator will be whether or not this campaign exceeds the backer count and funding total of the previous campaign - of course this doesn't take into account those who late pledged the previous campaign (or who might late pledge the new campaign), but I think its safe to assume that growth during the kickstarter phase itself will indicate late pledge growth as well.

Of course, COVID could throw things for a loop and give us a false indication. Their first campaign launched pretty early in the COVID saga, I think a lot of people were still in denial about how long things would go on for and how bad things could get, and were buffered by stimulus checks and unemployment benefits that no longer exist and spent frivolously instead of battening down the hatches like they should. A few months later and it doesn't really feel like we are really seeing a light at the end of the tunnel yet and I think theres a better understanding of the severity and impact on peoples finances, etc. might push people off from committing more money to the campaign (the fact that more than a quarter of the US population is unemployed at the moment -and I don't mean the misleading 11% unemployment rate published under Bureau of Labor Statistics criteria - might also put a damper on things).

Less controversially though, the fact that a lot of people still aren't playing tabletop games regularly, and a lot of people are only now getting around to putting together their minis, etc. might mean that there hasn't been enough exposure into the market to attract interest from newcomers, so we might not actually get a clear indication of the games success until kickstarter 3.

I'm actually really impressed that PP managed to do their first KS and deliver on time during Corona. Far as I can tell Asia market might be lagging a bit but they got their KS done and out the door when international postage and working is in a nightmare situation.

A big part of the success was the fact that it had very little reliance on outside production. The cards and packaging was the only stuff, as far as I read.

I'm excited to see what's next.

I wanted to see how the game expanded a bit and passed on the initial KS, but the gameplay is really impressing me. There are a lot of really well executed ideas in this game I'm very curious about; I've just got to find a faction that really clicks for me.

I personally like the idea of the game having a side-board function. It introduces a very flexible way to allow you to vary your army composition on the fly. In theory this helps prevent auto win/lose matchups. Plus I think it encourages you to get more variety of your models on the table.

For me the big failing of the game is that it just looks so generic. It lacks the same character and charm that the Iron Kingdoms setting has that makes Warmachine/Hordes stand out on the tabletop. So far it just kinda looks like someone copied Corvus Belli's homework and sculpted heroic scale infinity knockoffs.

See I don't see Infinity at all, the sculpts are far more heroic style whilst Infinity is totally different and more "realistic" style.

I've been interested mostly in the mechs (because I need some mech minis damnit). Are they metal, resin, plastic? I've looked through but can't find anything specific in the two kickstarters they've put up.

Everything was metal in the kickstarter, barring potentially the Heavy Warjack being a resin/metal mix. But the Heavy wave has not been delivered yet.

Hmm. Not a huge fan of metal. But those are some killer looking robits and the market isn't exactly abundant in choice for things smaller than a gunpla/dreadnought or what have you.

I believe they are resin with metal bits, like everything else PP puts out these days.

Am I the only one who saw “Collision Course” and thought of that Croc Hunter movie where you could see in his wife’s dead eyes that she knew he was a dead man walking, whose obsession would leave her to raise their child despairing and alone?

I'm liking the designs but the whole endeavor feels a bit pricey to me.

If there's enough baked in savings/ bonuses via the credit things as the campaign goes I may convince myself to grab some stuff.

Liking the wild card and hero sculpts the most.

The moment those mechs are resin though I'm grabbing some. I can remember the chore of pinning and puttying the metal warbeasts and heavy warjacks. Not again.

That Paladin Siegebreaker is cool. I'm guessing it's not as large as the actual mechs though is it?

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

The prices for the KS aren't far off their retail prices (esp if the retailer offers RRP discount). Which is intentional, because these fill within a year PP isn't looking to sweep the board with a huge KS that then floods the market and undermines the retail options for them or their retailers.

So this really is a true pre-order system running through KS. The benefit you get for the KS are the stretch goals, bonuses, getting stuff first and some discount.

I couldn't put a finger on why the Empyrean models didn't pop for me like I the art did. I finally realized that the dark grey parts in the art have all been painted purple on the models causing them to lose the "glow" effect from the light purple sections of energy. I really need to see some of these models in other paint schemes.but the Empyreans just might do it for me, though I don't love the foot soldiers like I do the jacks and solos.

The kickstarters are all run at retail pricing. They're acting more as a preorder/alternative distribution system than one in which you're funding the development of the game.

I like the look of this game but I’m struggling to pick a faction as I have the usual issue I have with Privateer Press stuff, I like different parts of all the factions but there doesn’t seem to be one faction I like all the models from.

My biggest pet peeve with this one is that I would have liked to see something similar to the 'Head to Head' pledge level from the last.

And they've hit $100K and unlocked the first goal which is a reward ticket from the rewards chart!

Spoiler:

So if you back at Bronze (eg Command Group Starters ) this means you get to select one free item. Silver (eg Heavy Duty, Empyrean Skirmish Force) get to select a second and gold (eg Full battle force) get an additional two

Gold also get to select Two items from this table

This is my big issue with Warcaster as well. I'm not overly familiar with Infinity, but to me all the Warcaster sculpts look like they would fit in with the Infinity ranges fairly easily. I haven't really taken a look into the game itself yet because right now "Warmachine in space in the far future" isn't hugely of interest to me.

That's more of a problem with the Infinity ranges. Everything's super generic barring the Combined and Tohaa. There used to be more flavor, but they've ditched most of it.

Warcaster's designs, IMO, are just the right amount of 'generic' with 'practical' to feel good.

Also, according to Matt Wilson, they make the same per figure off of KSer as they do selling into distribution. So it's not like they're doing this to get more out of each sale.

I think you could add Aleph to that list as well. But ya, outside of a small group of subfactions, all the humans in Infinity are very similar and that's by design as it's more realistic to how tech would develop between the same species even if they are spread access multiple planets. The military people love it as the best way to identify what faction a unit is by the gun it's holding. Its why their color scemes generally tend to be pretty eye poping as it's really hard to figure out where a unit belongs unless you love fake weapons and know all their designs.

As for Warcaster, I really don't see much in common between the design of it and Infinity. I really don't care much for what I've seen of Warcaster, love the IK aesthetic (for the most part) but WK just hasn't snagged me yet.
