It certainly doesn't resemble prosthetics used by the only AoS faction that would put prosthetics on dwarves.

Yep. Kharadron have more of a steampunk feel; this prosthetic is more similar to Colonel Straken arm in terms of "cleanliness" and the round, smooth covers, but still too proportionately short to be a human leg. I'd say there is a good chance this is actually a Squat, though for which game remains to be seen (Necromunda already has 2).

I wouldn't have said that's a crazy idea if the two Squats they've made sold well.

Quietly, if I were in charge of Necromunda's model sales I'd know there's enough of a contingent of old school loonies who'd buy stacks of boxes to use for 40k Guard armies which they probably wouldn't acknowledge internally but would boost that P&L.

I think it's very likely for Necromunda, the only other idea I can think of is plastic Ratling Snipers.

I WANT TO BELIEVE
... anyways, after a closer look, yeah, this looks more like some kind of imperium/human tech - the casing isn't metallic like with most Kharadron tech, but painted like AdMech etc do. Another non-Necromunda faction that uses kinda industrial tech would be GSC, but they really have ... other ... means of improving their physique than bionics :p So simply everything points to a Squat gang, right? RIGHT?

Some months ago, when the famous excerpt from the Psychic Awakening about an Imperial ship encountering a (presumed) Squat ship, Bob from War of Sigmar mentioned having hear something regarding squats. It was very vague and I can't find the post. That little piece of background had people wondering about a bigger comeback than the FW models for Necromunda.

Now, I don't think sales from FW squats are representative of anything, since it's an specialty product for a game outisde their main lines. If I wanted to get a better idea of the interest surrounding squats, I'd release a plastic unit for IG. It'd probably sell well enough for several factors, and GW would get better numbers.

Anyway, I think I'm getting too much into speculation, with a bit of wishlist added on.

Both GSC and Squats have mining as part of their background, so...

I'm gonna go ahead and guess it's going to be the generic Technoarchaeologist for the AdMech book.

For those unaware?
Daedalosus from Blackstone Fortress' Combat Arena and Escalation boxes was added to the new AdMech book as a generic profile called "Technoarchaeologist". Since the model comes on a shared sprue with the other heroes from those boxes they'll have to release a generic set.

Now that you've said this & I looked at the Escalation box once again, could even be a generic Servitor? Even the newer ones are locked in a box with the resin Techmarine, AFAIK, and the older ones are from, haha ... the 90ies?!

Why wouldn't they announce it alongside the Codex, then?

Who knows? Stock levels might not have been ready, production might have been behind, or it might have been left out to encourage sales on Combat Arena/leftover Escalations.

That's actually a good potential callout too.

I would love a squat model, but it could also be the other short race in the imperium- rating with bionic leg

I don't think there is any force in the 40k universe that could force a Ratling to wear a boot.

Can't you picture it? Instead of machines lowering the helmet to finish the reconstruction of Darth Vader, it is raising and attaching a bionic boot foot onto a rebuilt Ratling sniper.

it would make sense, we saw a rumour engine model with a ratling mine on the back. Maybe gsc, but I think guard. With gaunt's guys, and the upgrade sprue, i think they're maybe after psyker marines.

My friend once had a photo of his Rogue Trader Squat servitor get printed in an old issue of White Dwarf and they constantly just referred to the model as "a servitor" lest newer players start asking questions about what Squats were.

I'd share the photo but AshHammer's Alcove no longer exists

That's the one!

AshHammer showed me the physical White Dwarf (it might have been the same one his Crimson Fists dreadnought was in?) but I don't remember the issue number. The caption was very careful to avoid the word "Squat".
