This... and, isn’t time to start ignoring GW new releases? Use standard light cavalry archers for this unit IFF anyone is interested in Ao$ and otherwise wait for GW to screw up WHFB for the last time, then we can all move on to better companies with better rules and sure, if you want to use your cow worshipping kangaroo riding (they must be) high elves then ok.. they count as (expensive) light cavalry archers.

Well, after seeing some more complete pictures, I'm going to have to take back my kangaroo comments.
They actually look pretty good and in good poses. The only thing I'd change is the awful heads - those hats can do one.

The vampire still looks like an old basic dark eldar trooper with disney hair.

Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity.

If they actually made plastic, really good blood knights, I won't lie I'd be interested. I'd probably never play AoS but I loved blood knights but their kit is over the moon expensive and I only got the ones I did because my friend hooked me up with a good price for them. If they came out great and in plastic ? I'd be super tempted even if I'd only ever use them in fantasy, if/when I get a chance to play the system again.

The Roo riders are awesome, and I wish they re made rough riders in that vein, but maybe with mounted RPGs on them. That would be nice. Forward Roo squadron to death and glory !

The vampire edge lord would look much better, if he was bald and wasn’t awkwardly standing on a rock. Also Sauron called, he wants his mace back.

The Elf Hero is not too bad, kangaroo riders still don’t appeal to me in the slightest I’m afraid.

Yeah I'm not sure what it is with the vampire it feels so basic, yet dumb disney, exudes 0 menace and somehow shuts down any appeal from me. It's very rare a model is dropped for a faction I'm generally a fan of and it makes me just not even feel an urge to want it. If their intent was to make me not even like it enough to hate it, well done GW, 10 out of 10 this time.

I was initially intrigued by the blurry image of the vampire. But seeing it now, it's a bit plain for me. The hair doesn't help, the armor is surprisingly bland. I don't have high hopes for this range. Vampires in blood bowl however....bring em on.

The model itself does nothing for me but a Vampire centric subfaction is intriguing. Definitely tuning in to see what their theme/roster will be like.

Since you mention Pratchett, to me the Lumineth cavalry would look right at home on a Discworld novel cover:

It's been a bit painful since the reveal last year. All we want is a classic fantasy style army. Is that too much to ask?

You might be looking at the wrong game for that, AoS is and has continued to go into a more fantastical approach. Waiting for the return of the old world in whatever form that ends up being might be a better idea. I do enjoy some of the AoS concepts, I think the Kharadron Overlords and Idoneth were great. But it's hit/miss for me most of the time. I'm actually kinda disappointed the Malerion type dark mutant elves that were rumored never came about. I remember seeing some cool artwork but it never materialized into anything.

Cut the hair, replace mace with sword.

Actually, throw helmeted one on top.

Be done and have amazing lord... actually, remove stone aswell.

We sort of saw this with Silver Tower.

When the set was released, the box contained unique sculpts (at least I’m fairly sure none were repurposed). But they also had rules for a variety of Heroes available in clam packs. And in due course, the adventurer models all saw a clam pack release.

They also added rules for baddies, but sadly not comprehensive ones (and I think that was for Shadows over Hammerhal. I’ve got the Chaos ones kicking about somewhere)

So to my mind, the vamp in clampack isn’t necessarily a sign it won’t be in a boxed game.

The mace is cool. It's nice to see a weapon that isn't another fething sword/hammer/axe. It'd be amazing if we could get some flails, halbreds, two-handed swords, rapiers, sabers, and picks.

Halberd i agree with. the mace just seems really blunt for the overall theme of the model personally.
That said, a twohander would also be something interesting on it.

Maces also tend to prevent blood being spilled, hence why Holy Men and Ogres prefer them. Same logic extends to Vampires. Better to eat a tenderised steak than one that’s been dropped on the floor, eh

They don't seem to be, they are.

Further Doc there's a whole slew of blunt weapons that'd be better to be wielded by the immense strength of a vampire, last but not least the goedendag, morning and eveningstars, warhammers, polehammers, poleaxes, sledgehammers, etc. if indeed the preservation of the blood would be the maingoal.
As it stands, indeed, Sauron called and want's his mace back.

Yes? I mean I thought that was made clear when they literally blew up their classic fantasy style world? Not saying I necessarily agree with the decision but it’s clearly the one that was made.
Pretty sure you’re going to have to wait for Warhammer: the Old World for those to come back.

Well, it looks like one of the Underworlds vampires would at least have a sword - and if some of the Rumour Engines are also for them, there may well be more than one.

Guess it depends on whether vampires are going to be foot soldiers in this, or just characters like we've typically seen before (with the exception of the elite Blood Knights of course). While I like the latter, I'd be all for another 4 plastic armoured vampires on foot for Underworlds. Yes please. This one doesn't make me too happy yet, but the style itself is good.

(And yet more if they would feature in Quest, but that's pure speculation at this stage, right?)

Ahh, but the flanged mace is ideal for messing up the joints of plate armour. Get that right (skill as much as strength), and your opponent can’t fight. Historically due to ransom, but in this case, for Elevensies.

There's a much simpler way, aka the goedendag, infact you can even use a Mordhau grip on a longsword or any equivalent (shouldn't be a worry for a vampire really strengthwise) for much the same process, hit head with that, keep the blood, maintain armor penetration and versatility AND be able to bully the much more common padded armor / chainmail combo of the common meatbag meal.

Edit: tbf from a culinary perspective, and combined with the abilities of a Vampire, a big cast iron pan might be the better option overall.

And yet, the Ogre and Wolf Rider Underworlds warbands are basically pure classic fantasy. Not saying there hasn't been a general shift away from these, but it's not like classic fantasy is absent.

Another case in point: the latest vampire. Stylistically, it wouldn't look out of place in a WHFB Vampire Counts army.

Exactly this. I don't think the classic fantasy elements look at all out of place in AoS. And I don't mean to disparage the stranger choices they've made. I would just like to see more classic fantasy. I don't mind a giant cow monster, but I also want horse archers. Personal preference, obviously. *shrug*

The real secret is that they are design-led. You want horse archers, hunt down one of their designers and convince them horse archers are really cool. Maybe present a semi-realised concept for an army to go with it, all casual like.
