They'd be comically large, occupy a sixth of the board, cost 800 pts and would do what ? Allow you to fly 200 pts across the table ?
Really I don't understand the hype.
Yeah, you and me both; it seems to be one of those "jokes" favoured by the sort of people who really love driving not-particularly-funny-to-begin-with jokes further into the ground than anyone ever thought imaginable. And, as you say, I also don't get why anyone would genuinely think it's a desirable addition to the game either.

I'm just hoping the Nob-lite orkz come in a unit of 10. I sort of doubt it since everything but boyz are in units of 5. But I'll still hope.
I'm more or less on board with the models depicted in the artwork so far. But the two biggest catches will be the warboss and whatever the bearded dude is. Never been a big fan of hairy orkz (even if the hair is just a type of squig) and this dude's apparently rocking a full beard and mane

I want one, Thunderhawks are cool but when Forge World were doing them I was still a student and couldn't afford one. I don't think I've ever bought a model primarily for its gameplay potential, that isn't what warhammer is really about to me.

Epic community on FB pretty excited about the new plastic thunderhawk, apparently the scale is pretty close (or close enough).
Surprising as there have been quality proxies available for some time (not to mention lots of 3D prints around), but guess that's the appeal of a plastic kit.
I was hoping that big piece of scenery, the fortress which reminds me of the wall in Jacksons King Kong the one we keep seeing in pictures would have been anounced.

I'd say I'm going to buy one, think about the dimensions before hitting the buy button, realise that I'm not going to display such a large 40k model anywhere in my house, and not buy it

Clearly, you buy it to use as a board for Kill Team.

I've NEVER been interested in owning a thunderhawk OR playing Kill Team... so why do I want to do this so bad?

Because you want to recreate the “fight on top of a moving train” scene from your favourite action film, but with a hypersonic aircraft instead, like any sensible person.
Suggested rules:
Mag Clamps: no models can Run without risking falling to their doom; if you roll a 4+ when determining your run distance, instead of moving normally you slip that many inches towards the rear of the aircraft. If you move off the edge, the model is removed from the game and treated as destroyed.
Crosswinds: all weapon ranges are halved and all ranged to hit rolls suffer an additional -2 penalty.

Yeah, same. Now Plastic Storm Eagle or Fire Raptor I'd buy.

You could also re-enact "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" from the Twilight Zone but instead it's your Tactical Sergeant who thinks he sees a Genestealer on the wing! You have to roll successive leadership tests to determine whether it's real or not!

No idea how the prices are likely to compare!
Well epic is 6mm, ai is 6mm. You would bloody expect scale to be close

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units." Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?" Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?" GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!" Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Most of which they already showed, kinda shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to having exciting reveals for Warhammer Fest.
Which is kind of a running theme with 40k on Warhammer Fest.
What are you talking about? So far we've seen two of the Squighog minis and a Beast Snagga boy. That video animation still what looked at least two warbosses and a couple of vehicles along with more ork infantry, none of which has been spotted anywhere yet.

I spoke with a friend the other day who has an interest in GW. He doesn't come on forums or even really visit the GW website all that much. He goes into the store every so often and buys and paints models he likes. He got turned onto Warhammer Fest by a store employee and has been loving it. You just don't seem to understand that forum dwellers and people who follow news and rumors are a TINY percentage of people who are customers of GW. The fact that you have seen a single picture of some models in a Warhammer community site, which is meant to give sneak glimpses of stuff coming to those who are particularly interested, is irrelevant. You don't seem capable of understanding this so whatever...
You are not the target.
