Ends Tuesday, 1st June at 8AM CST.

Was briefly tempted by the low prices on Wrath of Kings sets, but put them into the wishlist instead of the cart. Only assembled & painted 2 of the WoK figures I bought the last time they had them on deep discount (April 2020?), and it's not like anyone nearby plays WoK. At least with the Zeti, they are intended for my KoW Undead army as Vampire Infantry.

Yeah... i made a small purchase of WoK stuff cuz I am a sucker... 4 more boxes of werewolves... for $20. 32 werewolves for $20...

I debated buying some more nasier guys to use as bulk troops for... something? 14 Ashmen for $5... 8 of the naked muscle guys for $4.50... and the starter set is 30 dudes for $10... so 3 boxes of Ashmen, 2 muscle guys boxes and a starter set would be 88 guys for $34...

Last time I bought a ton of werewolfes to use as yetis in my ogre kingdom army. They are smaller than I expected but still, they look much better than gw ones. And yeah, I don't know how many werewolfes for those prices, even with shipping costs to europe were hard to pass.

So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Ended up picking up a lot of the Warmahordes books and cards (v3). Good enough for home gaming at $6 a book and $2 for cards.

The last batch i got... i had some miscast items... which i never had gotten before... but it was still well worth the money per figure.

The really cool stuff isnt on big sale... its mostly the wave 1 stuff. and the werewolf knights and White chick werewolf duelists arent even available... but I can always use these guys for something... may place another order...

the Soda Pop Mistmourn trolls make good d&d villains and are on sale too. and the Relic knights noh could be used for something...

The Noh are awesome for what they are and the price they're offered at, if you're in need of Oni- style ogres.

They're big and can get away with being used in both scifi and fantasy settings with little work, with the exception of the gunners maybe.

I've purged most of my Relic Knight restic garbage but the Noh stayed, and are entirely painted. Heck, I may order some more just to see if I can do a better job painting them all these years on!

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

I bought a bunch when they had the offload sale after buying the leftover stock years ago and a lot of the human figures (mostly from the pirates) were really bad. One figure (the lady sitting on the bomb) every cast was missing half a face. Even at around $3 a box I don't think some of them were worth it.

I ended up buying some last bits of Guildball and then a bunch of the cheap dust boxes as there are a few minis in there I would really like for an RPG campaign I'm planning and for $5 for 2 minis it's bad at all. If the map tiles inside are useable in anyway then that's just an extra bonus.

You do make some good points there. 32 werewolves for $20. Still, I did buy a House Goritsi starter last time, and a Confrontation Ragnarok starter before that, so I've the six werewolves needed for KoW. The House Nasier look doesn't work for me, so the bulk troops fails there for me, but again, 88 figures for $34. Something to remember for next time if I like the looks of whatever is on deep discount.

You just reminded me that I have a box of Relic Knights human...oids? waiting for bits so I can complete them. After the last few Wargames Atlantic boxes, I should finally have enough bits to make them decent.

I keep on being tempted to buy Journey Wrath of Demons for the miniatures. So far I've resisted.

I've spent a silly amount of money on the micro art studio base inserts given how little I've used them.

Anybody have any of the 40mm sand base inserts? I'd be very interested in pictures.

This is why I can't bring myself to part with my painted Shael Han just yet. There are no players near by but the rules were fantastic and the minis/world were wonderfully original.

It's definitely a good sale if anyone wanted to pick up a Guild Ball team and join in the community effort to keep the game alive.

Thank you, but just so others know, most of those are just photoshopped pics of their resin versions. I'm 90% confident that the desert base inserts don't overlap the edge of the base, as the photos show for example.

Wait. So they're using a holiday established to honour the sacrifice of fallen soldiers....to shill some plastic toys?

Am I missing something cultural here? If my local off-license used Remembrance Sunday to advertise Snickers bars, I'd find it more than a little bit distasteful.

Pretty much every place in the States uses memorial day for sales. It's generally the beginning of summer sale and probably the largest time outside of the winter holidays for sales and is probably that way just because it's the first 3 day federal weekend of the year (meaning most people have it off and if you're working it you get paid more and that's required by law).

Martin Luther King Day and President's Day would like a word with you about how calendars work. It is worth noting that there's normally pretty major sales for the latter holiday as well (the former likely being too close to Christmas for anyone to have loads of cash around to make sales worthwhile).

As far as cultural norms, the nature of consumerism is such that it barely registers with people; if there's a larger than normal people who will not be working that day, the stores will have a sale if they think they can make money off of it.

Neither or those are mandated federal holidays for all companies. So no time and a half if you work them by federal law. A lot of companies do give one of them off but it's not guaranteed like Memorial day is.

There's also no guarantee for Memorial Day (or any other holiday) in most states; barring a specific state law (which do exist; Massachusetts and Rhode Island I know for sure require it of private employers), there is no requirement for non-public employees to be paid for those holidays nor to receive extra pay for working those days. It's incredibly common for that to have been negotiated with an employer such that it seems like it's a law, but in reality it's just because people prefer to work for companies that provide that benefit and employers that don't find themselves at a severe disadvantage in recruiting/retention.

That's getting off-topic from the sale at MM though, which sadly has nothing of interest to me. Since they switched to UPS for fulfillment it's been much easier to get things delivered in a timely fashion too which was a pleasant surprise the last couple of times I ordered from them.

So American businesses are so suffused by the 'make a quick buck on every occasion' ethos that regular American consumers are inured to it; no matter how crass? Still seems a bit weird to me in this context (especially given American pageantry around the military), but that's why I asked if it was something cultural or not. Different folks different strokes. I was just curious whether Miniature Market were being atypical. Seems like they're not.

Definitely having an internal debate with myself about whether or not to pick up some Guildball teams. Not sure the game has much of a following in my area though; if it had one the pandemic has probably killed it. Might still pick them up just because I like the quirky character models.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Could they do double duty elsewhere? As Smokestack pointed out earlier, if the price is low enough, it can be worth it for bulk troops for something else. And character models, if sufficiently unique, can often find find roles in RPGs.

I am wrong, wow. Looked it up. All this time, probably 25 years, people telling me they were mandated at the federal level and it's not. Still. Memorial day, according to Wikipedia, has about a 70% observance for days off so I think my original point was correct. It's a big sale because it's the start of summer and it's the first 3 day weekend of the year or a majority of Americans.

This is what I use them for. Fun, quirky RPG stuff. The farmers guild stuff, for example is a great non angry mob line of peasant miniatures with some action poses.

I think holiday sales are fine.. not really a reflection of the shop being evil or what not…

But.., I will say the sales have been kind of lackluster the last couple years. I remember always looking forward to the Black Friday sale at miniature market but have skipped it for a while. And all I really mustered here was $32 with shipping…
