It may be the lighting, but it looks like the BB ogre's pants and skin are the same colors, which in turn means that I thought he wasn't actually wearing pants, just a cup-and-g-string combo.

Lol I thought that too I need to smack it with yellow ink. Although saucy ogre is not necessarily bad

blockade23 wrote:I love that you're digging out things from the old to be painted pile. I do agree about the color pants - maybe a different wash would do the trick?

Also, I really like the shoretroops from earlier. The bases look amazing.

Thanks, that was fun to do.

Yeah it does have the vibe. It is also true that the lack of gingivitis is poor.

Well, hello there gang, been a while. May has been fairly unproductive, a combination of factors: lots of sunshine, low motivation to paint, other RL stuff.

Still, I managed to complete both sets for Carnevale's Harlots' Guild, The House of Virtue & Ladies of The Night, as well as building them a custom base on a whim

The Madame, the leader

The Blood Witch

Reversed

And their unfortunate victims, Blooded slaves

I'm quite sure they deserve it

The Shadow Assassin, who avenges wrongs against women of the city

The harlots, all of different styles for different tastes

And of course, their Escorts

On balance, they were fun. The custom base was a total whim based on scrap and offcuts I had lying about, making a bit of height variation for display purposes in amongst the rest. They'll also do double-duty for the Cult of Cankered Rose for London 1(666) which is shaping up to be a fun game. You can download the beta and all stats here

Next month... Ogres! Slow and steady

That's some fine work on a great set of models. The Madame and Blood Witch stand out-- all the decorative chains and whatnot must have been a PITA to paint. I like your treatment of the wounds on the slaves, as well as the bodyguard's stripey pants.

Now showing skeletons for Mantic's Dungeon Saga!

Painting total as of 12 July 2025: 88 plus a Deva King statue

Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

Thanks. Yes indeed they were infuriating, especially all the tiny tiny bones on the Blood Witch. The Blooded were great fun to do, and the stripes are a continuation of the experiment on the Ogre.

This month's contest is Slow and Steady:

Wargames Atlantic villagers. They bumble around and get in the way in any game, but particularly for London 1(666) where they are hopeless at escaping from the
And metal 2nd ed ogres that I've not touched for 30 years... that's Slow and Steady, right? Plus, of course, they are Slow (if not steady) on the field... and next month the Gnoblars are perfect for Sidekick! I mean I don't OWN any but there's time, right?

In fact...

Let's do this!
I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into these. The gnoblar is a rackham goblin... maybe? I gsd his club into a lump of meat. The star players are all going to be done in my Auld Alliance colours (Red, Blue, Yellow) in the above ogre and halfling variants of the scheme.

I've not really been in a painting place. So, I decided to bang out some generic plastics.
A quick and dirty paint job of the Galactic Corps for Core Space.

These did not inspire me to give them a great deal of time and effort, because the casts are... dire

That's not really recoverable. So, they're playable... enough. 2 by 2 with hands of blue...

I've also started off the Wargames Atlantic villagers. Nice modular kits. This is one sprue worth.

Anyway, whilst I'm not back on the paint train, I'm starting to get back into it.

Love the way the gals turned out graven. Quite an eclectic bunch. I think you did an especially good job on the dancing harlot.

Thanks buddy. I really like them as a group, but she is a lovely sculpt indeed.

A very wee update.

I've decided to really concentrate on Morg N Thorg, and just enter him for the monthly contest

Obviously the shoulder skin needs more layers/blending, but even under dakka super zoom I'm not embarrassed by the face- Very happy so far.

Alright?
A random thing I made on a whim:

A bit of scatter for Shatterpoint, an Imperial Console, made from a prosecco bottle cap:

I've drilled a wee hole on the side as a mech port too. Sometimes a random fun thing is just the palette cleanser you need.

Yeah man it scratches an itch. I used to do the LOER contests on here but, like anything, you go through phases. Like, right now I'm on a bit of a blood bowl kick? But then I saw this lid with its death star dimple and I KNEW I had to.

Kid_Kyoto wrote:Love the Imperial Fish Bowl, going to have to try that with a bottle some time.

Cheers buddy.
It's one of the twist top mini prosecco lids, FYI

So yeah, Blood Bowl. Good link eh?

This is a model from when I was... 12 maybe? Stripped and repainted.

I think that qualifies as Slow & Steady

I tried to go for a very traditional garish gw scheme

Hurrah for a new light box!

Next step will be to find my DSLR which is in the house... somewhere and get proper depth of field, but these will do for now.

And to accompany him, a test Gnoblar.

I *think* the model is a rackham goblin. I've gsd his club into a slab of meat for reasons that will become apparent.

The rest of the team. I have converted up regular gnoblars, mostly. I reckon they steer them with meat: "Hey you! Look! Food! Now get the ball!"
After this, orc and black orc teams.
I do like building blood bowl teams. It's really self- contained.
Granted the orcs will be team 11 & 12, but still...

Continuing the Blood Bowl theme, Grak and Crumbleberry:

Yellow has been ramped following advice of you excellent bunch.

Very nice mini.

Well, not especially mini but you know what I mean.

Very very mini mini otoh.

These guys were originally intended for this month's dakka contest, Sidekick, as that's very fitting, but it'll be the gnoblars instead.

OK, so, my hobby goal this year was to paint... less. Bear with me. To be more accurate, it's been to paint quality over quantity.

I enjoy miniature painting very much and during covid times I did the 365challenge - averaging 1 miniature a day for a year. Having done that since 2020 - in fact, with over 1000 in the first year and around 400 every subsequent - it's become, well, a chore, albeit a satisfying one.

As a result, this year I'm only painting what I want, when I want. 124 this year so far, and that's fine by me.

I am rather chuffed with them thanks!

Well now.
Been away on me holidays (Malta, lush, much history, much food) and back anew with fresh ideas!

Summer holiday project idea #3 : Turn this into a dice tower.

That thing is about 12"/25cm high.
It annoys me, irrationally, that I don't have a sci-fi dicetower (I have my castle greyskull for fantasy and Venetian house for Carnevale) and Shatterpoint is a game that really needs one. I have made one in the past from juice boxes for Dreadball, though it's now fallen apart (through use, which is not a bad thing), and had considered using Mantic Deadzone terrain to do so. I plan to add another ladder to the gap at the front whilst cutting out the plate behind it.
Maybe.

Other projects:

Waaagh, and so forth. The ogres will be done to match the other Auld Alliance (red armour, blue upper cloth, yellow helmets, yellow trousers) and the gnoblars similar, albeit waving around lots of grub to distract them.
The orcs and blorcs are getting done in orange I think, I want them to really pop against the green skin, as well as very distinct from my other teams.

Particularly pleased with the converted black reach boss.

I also have this massive stack of Shatterpoint to think about:

Plus being distracted by cardboard crack (Altered, French ccg that is realllllllly good). Nice problems to have though.

There's a lot of good new releases for The Guild for Carnevale coming, which is also tempting
And let's not even get started on the boardgames

I have to battle really hard to not fall into the Star Wars Minis trap again. I had a whole Star Wars Legion Rebel Army and then sold it (including the fleet troopers, my personal favorite minis) only to find out now they're like $80 a box (insane!) Can't wait to see what you do with these ones. I Succumbed to the Andor pressure and bought the three main characters from Rogue One just to paint them up.

They are lovely models, in fact I went to tackle them today...
I got all excited, keen to build and paint Star Wars, so went and sprayed some models... and the worst thing possible happened: primer shock. So humid, it turned to powder and ruined them.

I had to do... something. Something to pick me up. As mentioned, I've had an idea for a while to make a Star Wars dice tower. The High Ground set, with its single high narrow tower, seemed ideal. Still want to be functional terrain.

Doing a dry fit, it became apparent that there was simply nowhere for Dice to go. Out came the jewellery saw to remove the door recesses.

For the tray, the floor below with ladders as balustrades seemed reasonable.

Ladders on the inside prevent Dice getting trapped.

The top hatch becomes the ramp, a platform from another part of the set acts as one cover, and the inlaid pipework - cut down - becomes the exterior.

So far, so good!

Onwards!

That's a really cool idea. But adding guardrails (to keep the dice from scattering all over the table) would seem to violate the SW aesthetic.
