Based on the base size (assuming the 80 mm is correct), the avatar is about a head shorter than a keeper of secrets. So not too bad, but I would have liked him to be as big.

Keeper is the tallest one so it is ok, and that would also make Avatar as big as the rest of GD.

Not everybody wants change just for sake of change.

True but then again why even expect for any model update then? Different poses maybe? Updates are opportunities to introduce novelty IMO.

Usually they would like a better rendition of the same concept/unit. Tech has updated since they were released, after all. Material is also an important part.

New stuff is nice, but people like armies because they like what there is already there, most of the time.

The issue is making that pose work without the 'rock.'

The cloak is fine but personal preference, I'd rather we get the classic helm like that artwork rather than have it obscured by the hood.

I mean it's just as well it's a plastic mini and easy to sort out, it's not like a massive rock.

As for the skull helm, true the hood is a shame, but then again, maybe there's an alternate head in the kit or extremely easy to swap it for a one without the hood.

That Kill Team Corsair model looks nice.

Though all the rumours suggested that Corsairs would have no actual characters in the codex, so I'm assuming we're not getting rules for him (or anyone else) outside of kill team.

Sigh.

Probably in White Dwarf and then maybe later in a Codex Supplement and or/Campaign book.

Really like the Avatar/ Maugin Ra (although I have the previous ones) and the Corsair - looking forward to seeing the full range

As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I don't like the Greater Daemons being that large, either.

To be clear, the Avatar is pictured that large in the new artwork because these days they make the artwork to match the models, in an effort to avoid a repeat of the Chapterhouse legal debacle. Older artwork took all sorts of liberties with the sizing of pretty much everything... and I have no problem with that. It's art, make it as epic as you want. But for practical gaming purposes, massive models are pretty to look at by themselves, but awkward on the table, in some cases look out of scale with the troops (looking at you, Guilliman!) and expensive.

The size of the old Avatar was fine. It was already massive compared to regular sized people. Everything doesn't need to be the size of a titan.

Probably but likely not all of them - same as the Novice Sisters are not in the Codex.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Wow... no new Spiders or Hawks. Everything they showed off was stuff we already knew about/had seen.

Yikes...

And of course they couldn't just call them Eldar (or Aeldari) Corsairs. They had to tack on a double-barrelled nonsense name to complete it. Wonderful.

I never liked the existing Ra. I think the new one is bloody fantastic. I like that he's not this heavy-set 2D static lump. The cloak, the pose, certainly a more heavy metal/rockstar feel to it, but he feels like a Phoenix Lord. If they can do something as good for Baharoth one day...

Shining Spears are just phenomenal. No longer are they mostly-white-with-a-bit-of-blue Guardians with fancy spears. They've got their own aesthetic with that helmet, and their bikes look wonderful.

Avatar is pure class, top to bottom, made only more perfect by the fact that he has a frickin' spear!

Yeah, you can clearly see now it's twice as big as it was originally pictured:

In line with the rest of the current stuff, but that doesn't mean everyone likes that "scale"

But back then everything was smaller. If they made it that size now then it would be completely underwhelming.

I think it's worth noting that the scaling of the Avatar's been pretty variable over the years – cf the original, regular-Eldar-sized one and the absolutely massive (proportionally) Epic-scale one – so while people may have their personal preferences, it's difficult to say with any authority what the "correct" or canonical scale is.

Well, yes, but that's because they've locked themselves into this cycle where New and Improved = Bigger, which is absurd.

If they had redone the Greater Daemons at the same size as the previous models, but as customisable plastic models, people would have been just as happy with them. Same with the Avatar... But making them huge forces people to upgrade or be criticized for using 'inappropriately small' models.

There's been worse creep around.

Sure, I'm simply saying that referring back to old artwork is pointless because it was done when the sizes in game were completely different.

The only question was were they going to stick to the FW size or bump up to greater daemon.

I admit I don't really like the composition of this new Maugan Ra. I don't like the robe covering up so much detail. I want to see that bony armor. The spine banner pole in the back seems a bit excessive and even taller than the older one. Don't know how he'd fit through a door or maneuver through any form of cover. The stance reminds me too much of the Death Jester. One of Maugan Ra's powers from his story about his assistance at Iyanden was the power to root himself immovably to the ground so I would not have minded him planted firmly on the ground. It's a power that his followers mimic through the Dark Reapers having reinforced leg armor with bracing to absorb weapon recoil.

Something like this, based off an picture in a past Codex, is what I would have preferred:
Spoiler:

It gives a sense of solidity that is in contrast to the other Eldar, and shows how Maugan Ra was different to his fellow Phoenix Lords.

Rune #2 is definitely Hawk.

The top down view shows clearly it is the Hawk rune.

Rune #8 and #10 are unknown. Dare we hope that GW has something in mind for the future?
