Well the most likely reason is that Nids are next in line for the new edition treatment in 10th like Necrons received in 9th. Overhaul the old troop models, add a big plastic LOW kit, and replace a bunch of old finecast stuff in one go.

Plus it's not like GW have outright stopped making 40k models. So far this year we know Eldar & CSM have major range updates, plus two new CK kits. Then Squats, Imperial Guard, World Eaters, and maybe Daemons are also likely to see significant model releases in the next 12 months. I don't get how they're "leaving money on the table" by making all that other new stuff before... plastic pyrovores?

They just did by releasing a parasite instead of any of the kits people been asking about for decades...

Has there been parasite model before?

Adding model people haven't been able to buy before has less issue of getting people to replace old models they have already spent money for.

Spore mines in that kit are a must but after Parasite release, which has no Rippers even if his rules/fluff would suggest otherwise, I am worried they could not include any in the kit.

But you can get 3 Swarms from the INSANE value combat patrol nid box ZOMG!!!!!!1111!

They even have it under "frequently bought together" of the Parasite for your convenient.

People have also asked about the Parasite (and other old 5E codex units) for years.

Models take resources to design and produce, and a small single-character sprue is also much quicker and easier to develop than multi-sprue dual kits. New models to cover four existing units would come at the expense of other kits being postponed or even not being made at all, such as:

New Eldar models people have wanted for years
New Guard models people have wanted for years
New CSM models people have wanted for years
New World Eater models people have wanted for years
New Squat models people have wanted for years
and so on

Perhaps it's just me, but I'm happy people who play those other factions can get their cool new toys first. Meanwhile the Tyranid rules have improved so much it's finally worthwhile for me to take Lictor or Pyrovore models I've already painted out of the display cabinet and onto the table.

How many spin offs of same type of space marines kits have been released in 20 years again?

No, it is not just you, I believe that many here are happy that all those outdated models for Eldar and other factions are finally replaced (I do not play Deamons for example but was so happy when they finally got new Greater Deamons that match their art and fluff). Still it does not change that nids fans have a right to feel very dissapointed with just 1 model release. And as written before, it is a model that uses Rippers both in fluff and rules, yet there is not a single Ripper base available with it. So not only do we get a single model release after 8 years or so, but a new player will discover that to use the model in full he/she needs to buy other models too. And how surprised will they be discovering that Rippers cannot be bought separately.

N.B. the Parasite is a generic unit type, not a unique one. In multiples I think their tactical utility goes up a bunch; the ability to switch off ObSec is nearly worth the points on its own IMHO, never mind being fast Stnapse to extend the range of your psychic powers and unit buffs.

People have been asking about the Parasite for longer than lictors or biovores. The Parasite was part of a host of models added to the Tyranid codex before Chapterhouse. Back when GW got into the habbit of adding models to rules but not in model form and then never releasing them.

Originally it was a hero style model and unique; much like the "doom" was for the zoanthropes and now the neurothrope is more generic.

Both options give us close to something that was there that never got a model, but both also leave the door wide open for a hero or unique or just leader style model of that type in the future too

I've been asking for plastic Lictors before the Parasite even existed. I guess I'm not people.

I haven't played Tyranids in forever, but if GW released Lictors in plastic they'd have to screw up the design pretty badly to put me off buying one. Or three, if they're packaged as they should be.

So what’s on the wish list for new Tyranid kits?
Plastic Lictors/Deathleaper, Biovores/Pyrovores, Termagants with 1-part heads… what else? Updated Genestealers?

I’d like Shrikes back, personally.

If GW did Shrikes I'd really like them to be their own thing. Historically all they were was a jump-pack version of warriors. I'd rather see them as having a more of a distinct slot both sculpt wise and weapon/equipment/role wise on the tabletop.

All existing non plastic (including FW) in plastic plus updated Horma/Termagaunts, Genestelers, Rippers. Additionally - Dactylis, Malefactor, Dominatrix.

Sculpt wise is easy; just crib the Parasite but leave off the tentacles and totally-not-xenomorph forehead.
As for role… maybe aerial scouting in a way Harridans Harpies and Crones are too big for but Gargoyles are too dumb for (when outside synapse range)?
To that end give them abilities to grant bonuses to hit aircraft and maybe a “seeker” type gun or two, some derivative of the Hive Guard impalers.

Warriors, but flying is already a role Nids would have use for; the need for mid-size bugs and synapse support doesn't go away in the air.

Yeah, I would prefer them to simply be winged warriors, no need for fancier roles that belong to other units.

You're not a Tyranid player/collector/stakeholder and think that Tyranids' appearance should be redesigned (in a very vague "Step 1: Erase all Tyranid design, Step 2: ???, Step 3: Profit" manner, I would add). So who cares what you've "been asking for" . You're a sidelines joker.

Australia Update!!!

The Tyranids are finally heading down under for an early June release:

Gap Games wrote:We have just received news from Games Workshop that the New Tyranids pre-release will be going live next on Saturday 28May22 with products available on the 4th June 22.

We do not have any further information regarding pricing however please feel free to drop and EOI below or FB message/email and we'll see what we can do once better understand our allocation.

As always EOI allocation is not confirmed until the morning of the pre-order with payment after the pre-order goes live.
And whilst they don't have prices, I certainly do, 'cause I already have the Parasite and Codex:

Codex: Tyranids - AUD$84
Datacards: Tyranids - AUD$47
Combat Patrol: Tyranids - AUD$210
Parasites of Mortrex - AUD$66

And final confirmation!

WarCom wrote:After a slight detour in the warp, six Tyranids products which had been delayed in Australia and New Zealand are also arriving for pre-order from this coming Saturday.

There’s Codex: Tyranids, which contains absolutely everything you need to run a Hive Fleet of your own, including datasheets, Stratagems, Relics, Hive Fleet Adaptations, Crusade rules, and more. It’s available in a fancy hardback edition and an extra-fancy collector’s edition, which includes a ribbon bookmark, a soft-touch cover, and shiny foil blocking.

Combat Patrol: Tyranids contains a planetary invasion in a box, with a massive 44 miniatures including a Hive Tyrant (which can also be built with wings, or as a Swarmlord), three Tyranid Warriors, 36 Termagants, and three Ripper Swarms. The Parasite of Mortrex, meanwhile, is a new Fast Attack choice that implants enemies with Ripper Swarm grubs. These rapidly gestate, causing mortal wounds and eventually bursting out of these poor unfortunates’ stomachs.

Finally, the Tyranid Datacards set contains 70 cards to keep track of your Stratagems, psychic powers, and Synaptic Imperatives in battle, while the Tyranids Dice Set includes 20 six-sided dice in lurid purple, with the faction logo on the 6 face.

Just remember folks, the Parasite of Mortrex is tiny!

It still just looks like a bunch of spare bits slapped together to me. Sure they are well sculpted bits, but it doesn't look cohesive to me and at that size certainly not $40, let alone whatever Aussies have to pay for it.
