A pretty nice commander model, tactical rubble notwithstanding as always. The weapon loadouts are a bit too "safe" if that makes sense to you, it's all fairly WYSIWYG and self-explanatory if one's familiar with Imperial techno-aesthetics.

Thos tactical rocks are getting out of hand.
Other than that, this one is actually starting to look a bit like a space dwarf, but god damn, thos feet...
There's a good reason why oversising a bit the feet is a common technique to help making a silhouette look stronger/heavier, and a good reason why the last thing you'd ever want for a supposedly strong and heavy character is to give them thos things he got.
Also, the front facing backpack crest in the illustration looks way better than the standard one we've seen so far.
That said, that mini has a very strong "Dark Imperium gravis captain belly" look to him...
GW creativity at its finest.

Quite like it. Feels so, so much more like a Space Dwarf than most of the other units. Even those 2 hearthkin in the artwork feel much better with just the simple addition of some embellishment on their shoulder pads, a shame that's not actually on the models.

.
I understand what they're going for with the feet - they're wearing normal shoes with their ankles covered by a void suit that's either thick bulky material or loose / baggy / inflated because it's a pressure suit - but it still looks a little odd. Boots would have been more suitable and made them feel more sturdy and rugged overall.

I think he solves another rumour engine as well, if the one I’m thinking of shows a kit part rather than an assembled model?

Probably? You can't exactly tell 100% in the current angle.

My guess is that this one is the LoV psyker, on some flying rocks like the cow people from aos.
This is the next evolution of tactical rocks.

I think the leader model looks much more "Squat-ish" to me than the standard foot sloggers or the hover bikers.
I actually kinda like him. Might be worth using him in a version of Inq28 or something.

So if GW designed heavier armour that's actually visually consistent with the lighter variant, why did the heavy armour unit get the cheap Starcraft knockoffs?

I mean, his feet are massively oversized, so if you're not getting the feeling of weight from the model, something else is at play.
Possibly him dancing on some rocks.

If he's the army commander, does that make it a strategic rock?

Now I've liked the majority of the minis so far, but of all of them this is certainly my favourite. The tactical rock is absurd but everything else especially the helmeted option, is awesome.
Edit: also, the red armour? Much better than the teal.

This is frigging ace, absolutely stunning model. Love the new look squats anyway but this is aces. Weapon options too. And I like the metal head too. The overly aesthetic of the new line is ticking all the boxes for me. Was worried the leader models might too much Nordic symbols and brass stuff but I think they’ve hot the sweet spot.

Taken on their own, yeah, they are big, but you have to put them in context with the rest of his gear. His shoes do not match with his more heavily armored look and look smaller in comparison.

Can someone explain why they refer to the Teal armour as a "classic" scheme for them? I don't recall Squats having teal colours?

This is probably marketing speak, the same way Ubisoft constantly spams 'iconic' for crap they're trying to push into being iconic. My guess is the Teal armor is going to be the standard ultramarine-esq scheme for the faction.

It’s also weird because the colors of armor and cloth are swapped compared to what we’ve usually seen

Several units have been like that, it's wierd.
Hearthkin, ironkin, Pioneers and vehicle crew were white armour, Teal undersuit.Einhyr and the Kahl are teal as the primary colour.

What is wrong with the feet? Do they really look that big to people? They are wearing boots and don't seem to be in hobbit ratio big. /shrug
Also, the helmet seems more like a kin head option than a helmeted fleshy.

The problem is they aren't wearing the normal style of boots, compare it to something like the Ironhead Squats, Kharadron Overlords or Grendl Grendlsen. The feet don't really blend in with their overall silhouette as well and makes them feel a bit more top heavy.

This is likely a nod to their aesthetic forebears, the Karmans from AT-43. They used a teal / sea-green color format, and the LoV are following that pattern with their armor, equipment and flavor. /s

The pose doesn't work for me on the axe loadout. I could get used to the one with the power fist. Might be the angle of the photos, though.

To be fair, unlike the transhuman super soldier the space dwarf actually has a reason for a voluminous belly.
Wha-Mu-077 wrote:I don't hate him, even if he's got the mother of all tactical rocks.
With tactical rocks like that he is but a rank amateur compared to the new Death Jester Maugan Ra.
Which shame is greater? Trying to outdo an elf in his chosen art or failing in it? If this was Fantasy there'd be an oath to be sworn.

Probably. Being less serious about it, he stole the Tempestus Scions' color scheme that identified them pretty well for a good few years now. Iconic enough, albeit not iconic to space dwarfs.

The art at the bottom of this latest article has two troopers in the foreground, leaning forward so their backpacks look very similar to Astartes-style. Besides that one instance, yeah, I don't see it.
