How do!

Not really sure why this popped into the old melon, but here it is, from my foetid morass to this thread.

What I want to see are your scratch built forces and models I figure if nothing else it will prove visually interesting, and possibly provide inspiration to others as to what Could Be with a few deft strokes of a modelling knife/saw, and Highly Tactical adhesive.

Come on Dakka. Knock my and everyone else’s socks off.

And apologies, whilst I’ve nothing against Kit Bashing (it’s hella fun!), there outside the purview of this thread. I’ll allow a commercially available base model, or Bitz sourced from a single kit, but for my idiot purposes no more!

Can’t take a picture right now, but ork killa kans have to be one of the easiest thing to scratchbuild. I’d also reccomend looking up the YouTube channel ScratchBashing, that guy is nuts.

So...you want to see 40k-size armies entirely sculpted by hand and manufactured by hand without the aid of technology?

You may not find very many.

my first army when starting ws squiggoth based orks, I just used plasticard and some toy dinosaurs roughly the right size, used straws for kannons, no idea where they are now though as that was 4th edition. I soon after got my first 3d printer and even though back then they could not do good quality models they did mediocre terrain and vehicles close enough for friendly games until i built up other armies i wanted to play

I don't have pictures- they were wiped out in a hard drive crash. I'll see if I can get some from one of my old gaming buddies, but no promises.

I am a poor sculptor, so no small scale scratch builds. But when the first iteration of Apocalypse dropped, I scratch built a pulsa rockit complete with its little launch shack. I finished it, painted it and got to see it fielded in an Apocalypse game, but when I moved back to Ontario, I left it with my buddy- it was made for him after all.

I also prefer the old Epic Hierophant Bio-titan to Forgeworld's weird hump-back bug. So I carved one out of styrofoam. I never finished the project, but the base sculpting did get done. It needed some additional fine detail work but not much; it needed texturing and then paint... Followed by enough lacquer to make it less fragile.

Would have been a hell of a model if I could have finished it.

Most of my army is unique and converted, but out of bits from multiple (usually 3rd party) kits, rather than hand-sculpting my own bits. So I guess those don't qualify.

There are people out there who have built their vehicles entirely out of plasticard and/or paper
And there are the Spruecron armies.
And the My Little Pony Marines.

Well no pics so far in the thread, so I'll contribute

I didn't build this, my brother did. But it's on me to paint it up! We call it the Battle Mansion. It's 90% plasticard, 5% little nails and pins for rivets, and the last 5% various bits. The back doors are hinged and open up too. Sadly, I don't have an actual Ork for scale, so y'all get a Brood Brother.

My bro has built a bunch of other Ork vehicles largely from scratch, but I don't have access to them for pics right now.

Honestly I've thought of doing the same thing. I fully agree that the OG Tyranid Titans are cooler than the Forgeworld one (and supposed to be waaay bigger.)

your mind

Brother Insectum got mad skillz, yo!

The patience to scratch build such a monster, a sign of virtue.

As with others, most of my models are converted, tho usually kitbashed with other gw bits and kits. Some minimal sculpting to fill gaps or lengthen hair, some banners made from fabric and superglue, yada…

Sad to say I have nothing from scratch but a bit of terrain… and that is, well, probably not going to make the cut when it comes time to ship essentials back to Korea, sadly…

Great thread tho. Looking forward to pics of what others can show off!

So I misread the op and my army doesn't qualify. But you can still look at it if you want.

Spoiler:
Alright I have something I'll share.

My Freedonian Assault Korps.

I started this project in spring of 2020.

So I wanted a 3rd party kit bash army. I picked Napoleonic French middle from conscripts and added body armour and gasmasks.
I picked 1.43 scale Char 2c tanks for Malcador defenders, still have to do the conversions. I really like the look of that tank and it's history is just not very good irl. But it looks really cool.
I don't recall the specific models I used for death riders. The infantry are Perry miniatures Prussians, which I really like.
The rocket systems are 3d printed models. I have some tankforge models for Death strikes and one converted as a Wyvern. the rocket system is a Russian multiple rocket launcher which would have been mounted on a truck. And there are Wargames Atlantic heavy weapon teams as well.
I have more Prussians to work on at some point, I bought 4 boxes and have2 left over. I'd like to add Maxim Machineguns at some point maybe. and I can top all this off with 3 Thudd guns and 3 heavy mortars I recently got in trade and a few Russ tanks, I'll work that one at some point but I hope to scoop up some Ogryn before that or just at some point.
Oh, still looking for some kind of zeppelins to use to build the various flyers. I have stuff book marked but I'm not working on anything right now.

This army has hit the table all of one time, we got slaughtered by cheesy sisters of Battle with too many killa kans robo nuns and what ever they are's with too many heavy bolters.

They may have gotten slaughtered but they did it in style! That's a great looking army.

Thank you! a little Greenstuff goes a ling way and the learning curve wasn't that bad. My first round of conscript gasmasks still look weird but also in a way like they should but the newer models all look much better. The best part is not having the grey tide. I set a good pace and it's worked very well for me.
