Killa kans! Oh yeah. Good memories with that one.
Kans get an extra vote for being such a notable improvement on their predecessor kit. I guess others awarded the same points would include Penitent Engines, Hive Tyrants and Exorcists. Basically any relatively modern/current iteration of kits which made life a lot easier.
I could even include the new Eldar Guardians in that. Sure they’re less posable without conversion, but they’re far less fiddly.

Probably my favorite kit so far as been the Redemptor Dreadnought, followed closely by the Leviathan and Contemptor.
Redemptor is so poseable and easily takes magnets. Same with Contemptor and Leviathan, although they lose a point due to being resin (we'll see how the new Contemptor stacks up!).

As an Ork player, I have a horrendous surplus of four particular kits.

Custodes Guarians Box, 5 guys, each box can give you a SC, a Flag, and a squad of Troops. That's enough to literally play a small match, out of the box. Enough bits to give every member every possible combination of bits.
Also models are massive and chonky, so easy to put them how you want them for assembly/painting. Take their size and simplicity to say, a Scion, where there are lots of cables and parts that snap easy, and points are weak and delicate. For first timers, Custodes Guardians.

The GUO is an amazing kit, I had loads of fun building and painting it.
But for pure 40K, hmmm. I think the 5e Dark Eldar infantry are really great kits, they do everything I want a 40K kit to do with style.

Kill team dedicated kits:
Multiple reasons:
A. pretty modular, even monopose torsos are easily hidden under a comparatively huge pile of extra bits and options. However the torse and set up of them are very varied and not obnoxious unlike some other monoposes.
B. gigantic ammount of options for the table aswell, regardless if 40k or Kill team. turning them into intersting prospects that you easily can run multiples without it getting boring.
____________
aside from these i'd say Killa kanz are awesome. Epitome of what kanz should be.
new SoB kit is a step above all other recent kits aswell, just from design.

I'm going Grey Knight terminators, for pure aesthetic and customization. I know it's not in the box, but adding some long green stuff purity seals makes them pop.
Plus, I'm of the opinion that Grey Knights are best as the Terminator Armor marines, as well. Screw Power Armor.

‘What Lorgar’s fanatics have not seen is that these gods are nothing compared to the power and the majesty of the Machine-God. Already, members of our growing cult are using the grace of the Omnissiah – the true Omnissiah, not Terra’s false prophet – to harness the might of the warp. Geller fields, warp missiles, void shields, all these things you are familiar with. But their underlying principles can be turned to so much more. Through novel exploitations of these technologies we will gain mastery first over the energies of the empyrean, then over the lesser entities, until finally the very gods themselves will bend the knee and recognise the supremacy of the Machine-God"

The metal Killa Kan kit should have come with pliers, because that was the only way you could get the pieces to fit together. I think I have 10 of them.
I like the current Ork Trukk, lots of ways to build it so no 2 are the same, and always useful bitz left over.

Current Abaddon the Despoiler kit.
One of the finest, if not thee finest 40k models, and is designed in such a way that it kinda feels like you are armoring up the Warmaster. The model designer even took the trouble to show the builder where Abby's arms were under those massive pauldrons. Plus, the kit does feature a few head choices and can be done with or without the cape.

Absolutely, if we talk about the best looking kit, this one has to be it. Perfect pose and meaningful options. Easily the best model GW has on offer these days.

What updrages? They have pretty much everything the unit is allowed to take, barring some options for the nob which typically are to be avoided (and there's plenty of those in proper nob kit) anyway.
Some more wargear would be very appreciated, ability to take a deff gun, skorcha, burna, kmb, or maybe even power stabbas on boyz would be cool. Eavy armor upgrade sprue with more helmet heads would also be cool.

In no particular order, for infantry, Tartaros Terminators kit (one of the best looking SM models, with absolute mountain of options and bits), for cavalry, Dawneagle jetbikes, and for big model, Redemptor for insane poseability and actually being only realistically sized dreadnought that could conceivably walk (I like boxnoughts but these would collapse trying to do first step and Redemptor is such a great refresh of the concept). If only it could take dual guns or dual fists...

It's cheated model, though. The pauldrons, instead of being on his shoulders, are welded to armour one meter up (because the silhouette is so iconic they couldn't place them in any other spot but with body being shown they couldn't place shoulders above ears like in other TDA kits). Then you also have stupid belt feed forcing him to keep his hand upside down at all times and making his Talon useless in fight, something that is funnily not present in much more sensibly designed Talon on Horus (and they really should have just copied it because it's supposed to be the same weapon, not barely functional knockoff Armless has). I also wish he was in one of HH terminator marks, but maybe his 30K plate fell apart from lack of spare parts and he has to make do with looted 40K suit.
And the off button on his back is just hilarious, potential backstabbers don't even need a weapon to finish him off

Gotta put in a vote for the mighty Valkyrie.
One of my favorite kits, it's just imposing, like the scene in Red Dawn when the Hind comes over the hill and everyone poops their pants.
Plus it is modular! I've not built a valk in 10+ years however...
I have build Varvis Lighters, Valtures, Vulkyries, Vinooks, a whole family made from Valk bits. Automatically Appended Next Post: H.B.M.C. wrote:Lost & The Damned kit.

That actually is what happened. After retreating from Terra, Abaddon abandoned the Sons of Horus to worship their dead father on Maeleum. He shunned the Legion Wars, taking the Vengeful Spirit into hiding until he was found by Iskandar Khayon, Lheorvine Urkis, and Telemachron Lyras who wanted the Spirit for themselves. When they meet Abaddon he is described as wearing patched and ragged Terminator plate made from various different suits. When Abaddon eventually becomes Warmaster, he gets a nice new one.
As for a good kit? Sternguard. The amount of generic but fancy shoulder pads in that kit gave covered a boatload of obscure Chapters for my Deathwatch.

Even as a non- GK Ultramarine, I’ve picked up both the normal power armor and terminator GK kits to make librarians, deathwatch, and add bits and character to a lot of models. Good kits to spice up a firstborn collection

The Tzeentch Herald box is great and can allow you to build in a single box:
