Yes, they only have claws right now (S 7, AP 3, D 2, Breaching 5+)

Hopefully this isn't some silly bloat with meaningless differences. Or a downgrade where each of the four one only inherits one good stat from the current claws.

Seems you're forced to make a mixed unit, too, there's not enough of anything for the whole unit.

And as an additional annoyance, there are 6 clearly distinct weapon sculpts in the photo... for four weapon profiles... so good luck remembering what's what.

I am assuming the weapon types are just cosmetic. There'd not be much point in making them have different stats since you don't really get a meaningful number of spares.

Also, the article says "This gives infantry-based armies tools to tackle a wide variety of enemy units, from hordes of lesser chaff to heavy tanks – at a very competitive cost in points."

That feels a bit of an unusual thing to see in a preview for the more narrative/hobby-oriented 30k. Especially if editions are just set to last 3 years now, I am not going to buy one of these very expensive miniature kits, miniatures that last effectively forever if cared for, for the points cost they happen to have -right now-. That would be like buying a new car just because the car on sale happens to be clean.

Sounds more like 'you don't need a tank'. Auxilia don't have any heavy weapons in their squads and a tank isn't the best/points-effective choice to baby-sit them.

I have managed to steer clear of the SA up until now - my only non-Legion army was going to be Mechanicum. But I've always liked the Charonite Ogryn models, and the 'old school' Rapier is (IMO) much cooler than the Legion version. With those models plus their Sentinel variants and proper retro tanks, it's getting harder to resist...

No reason why those Rapiers etc couldnt also be used for Astartes legion of your choice. Just cuz GW retconned them to be SA dont mean you cant just use the ones you like the look of more. This is what I'll personally be doing when SA get their Tarantulas

EDIT: Oh snap. Looking at my 90s references, its painfully clear to me now that the SA Rapier looks much more "authentic" to the original rapiers depicted in 1st edition Space Marine rulebooks etc. No idea what to do with the redundant SA crew, but those Rapiers are getting adopted for my IXth. I'm not entirely bitter about buying the Astartes Rapier kit, as it did come with those awesome gunner crew & bitz, just dont know what to do with those actual Rapiers now.. Maybe I'll make them into the other weapon variant now, and use these SA ones for the scatter laser like Omnissiah intended..

Ah, but looking these two kits even longer makes me feel like I want to kitbash them both together! Take the scatter laser from the Astartes Rapier kit, and transplant it into the SA Rapier chassis. The combination of both would look even more oldschool than either on its own

Huh, you're right, these are basically the old Marine rapiers. I wonder how easy it'll be to assemble without the seat.

Hopefully the "six charonite claws" hints the minimun unit size will remain at 3 models.

Four different weapon profiles sounds a bit over the top so it could also be that for example "Charonite claws and Charonite blades" are one weapon profile and "Charonite crushers and Charonite shredders" a second profile.

You have to keep the seat! Deadly Mario-Kart is best.

In the new article about Necromunda Wacky Racers, one of the example vehicles looks like it is basically half of a rapier upside down.

U - for Uranium Bomb!
N - is for No Survivors...

Normally I would say "don't bet on it" (I have lost a number of 40k units to GW raising the legal minimum above the number of models I have) but the 30k writer seems to be merciful since Cataphractii min size stayed at 5.

Maybe that will change next edition, but for now, they just might be alright.

Hah. Maybe I'll see if I can fit a jetbike marine in it without it looking incredibly dumb.

Also yeah, SgtEeveell, I did notice that, was neat.

Not keeping the seat if I can get away with it. I dont recall the og Rapier having a seat, so it wont be included in my "tribute" conversion either. Call me a buzzkill if you must, keeping it oldschool

The OG had a seat, the pilot was just standing on it instead of sitting.
