GW's explanation of "it's miniature photography" makes even less sense - their minis have the right amount of fingers too!

I'm pretty convinced an artist used an AI filter of some kind. And it, as AI is want to do, added an extra finger.

Stuff like this long pre-dates AI. See the cover of High School Musical 2 (doubt anyone ever expected to read that on here lmao).

The Ork on the cover art of Fear The Alien famously had six fingers, so GW's artists do have form.

And GW's Photoshopping on box art is often sloppy.

I'd agree that it's almost certainly an editing tool incorporating AI in this case though.

I'm not an artist or graphic designer but I know Adobe has been boasting on a weekly basis that they're integrating AI into photoshop. So unless someone is deliberately using an out of date version I'm not sure that can really say digital art is AI free.

They could just, y’know, not use photoshop, or any adobe product. I mean between the forced insertion of the slopifier and the recent severely dubious changes to the terms of use of their (near-mandatory) online storage, on top of the ruinous pricing and cancellation policies, I’d consider them fully compromised as a professional product.

But they also managed to build an infrastructure around a proprietary file format and you need to create everything you have ever made from scratch again with a different file format if you stop using their software
a new company/product can get away not using adobe, a company existing for more than 10 years won't have the time and money to switch to something else

Can we take this discussion to a dedicated thread of its own and leave this topic for Horus Heresy news and rumours? Thanks!

Do we have a time frame, when the Mk4 will get (or could) released?

We don't. It sounds like it could be soon, maybe in just a few weeks.

On the other hand, we still don't have the Whirlwind...

At this point I expect them to come together.

GW normally tries to not mix different systems in the same preorder too much so the Whirlwind waiting for other HH stuff to join their preorder date makes sense to me

Given the lack of other announced releases I assume Mk4 are meant to help bridge the gap between now and whatever is announced in the next preview stream. There's currently pretty much 2-3 weeks worth of stuff left including tonight:
1) AOS Slaanesh / GHB
2) HH Mk4 (& Whirlwind)
3) The LoTR thing from a while ago, which could easily drop alongside HH

I could see a Praetor in MK4 alongside the Squads and the Tank.

It doesn't make sense, because the other 30k stuff the Whirlwind was previewed alongside did release, but the Whirlwind didn't. Then GW previewed -and- released even more 30k stuff (the Falchion, etc) but still didn't release the Whirlwind, even though it was revealed back in January.

It might be a mould problem.

Apparently Whirlwinds were sent out to content creators for review with the Falchion, so it sounds like a last minute reschedule. Distribution delay perhaps.

Whirlwind alongside MK4 Battlegroup sound quite likely. Two different price points, so even if some cant afford MK4 big box, they'll still be able to get *something*

A Whirlwind and a MKIV Battlegroup for me please!

Think I might make terrain from the Sicaran, as I dont really have use for it. The Contemptor should do well as additions to my upcoming CSM Warband

Book for certain (otherwise I’ll forget), possibly a Whirlwind. Really shouldn’t be adding to backlog though.

Sooner than expected for MKIV. I'll wait for the standalone release since I am focusing on Venators and I have 6 Contemptors already, though.

Happy to see the Whirlwind finally got its chance.

MkIV box is not a bad place to begin a collection.

There’s nothing in it I’d consider useless. Indeed, I think all the units have a broad appeal.

But, for collectors like me that are intent on using specific armour marks to delineate units on the board? My vision is already complete.

Spods and General Infantry? MkVI.
Inductii? MkIII, as they need all the hope they can get
Veterans? MkII, as a nod to 40K Veterans often sporting Chapter Relics.

Though for clarity? If MkVI and MkIV had switched places in the releases, it would be MkVI I’d be seeing no role for in the visuals of my collection.

Whilst perhaps a minority, I can’t imagine I’m the only one of this opinion.

Might come up if I fancy starting a second Legion, but the chances of that are slim.

While the Mk 4 armour will no doubt be popular, Heresy needs a new release with a bit more impact. How about a recon-themed box, with a Sabre, a Javelin, Outrider bikers and a sprue of Recon Squad weapons? I bet that would sell...

I think HH for KT already exists? Its awesome check it out:

Some of the special rules are a bit OTT, might want to houserule to tone them down a notch, otherwise its pretty solid.

You just got lucky is all. My IXth were always going to be MKVI with a sprinkling of MKIV thrown in, even before HH NuMarines were a thing. I've since also added the requirement for modern scale MKV for my Death Company, so will be waiting for a bit longer still to be able to complete my army.

Fast and light stuff is definitely a significant plastic gap.

They’re also likely to sell quite well, as you typically need more than in an army, and should the price point compare favourably with Big Honking Tanks, give those on a stricter budget some armour to play with.

Like a plastic Warhound?

I bet we will see another Custodes wave before the end of the year. They'll want things like the Telemon in plastic asap now that people bought into the refreshed range.

I'm very intrigued about the Zone Mortalis supplement. The PDF we have is good fun and a far better implementation than last edition. I wonder if it'll just be a reprint or if they add anything significant?

It's most likely the PDF in a dead tree format with a couple ZM specific Detachments and maybe a conversion unit or 2.
