Nice! Killer model from some classic artwork. And possibly the best paintjob that the 'Eavy Metal team has done in a long time, IMHO.

Still not worth subbing to Warhammer+, though.

Think I might end up buying the other one of year two to be honest.

Still debating doing the same with the Assassin from Year 1 as well if it might be worth something further down the line.

I like the Terminator, aside from the dreadful paintjob. Not big on the sorcerer. The familiars are the real highlight here, but I'm not sure they're enough to sway me. But I think I can stay subscribed for the Terminator.

The sorceress is okay, but those familiars are amazing! I have the original version of both the hooded scroll carrier and the little warrior (mine is named Mr. Stabby and he belongs to my repurposed Aekold Hellbrass). The fish thing and the walking cauldron are nice too.

Technically proficient but done in a style I dislike immensely, and pretty overdone at that.

I know why they painted him like that. I don't like how it looks, though.

I believe it was end of July, ie. two weeks ago.

I think it's bit of duck move to send year one miniatures to new subscribers when majority of day one subscribers are still waiting for the opportunity to pick theirs.

Huh? You just go on the website and get it. You don't wait for it.

Yes, but some of us are still waiting for the opportunity to do that. I, for example, can’t claim mine until the 25th (despite subscribing literally from day one).

Annual Sub to get them soon, or 12 consecutive monthly subs.

Yep. Veridyan.

Art directly to model doesn't work very well. Needs a concept art and reality check phase for what works in very stylized fantasy art and what works on a 3d model.

Sorry for asking you rather than GW but I tried and could only choose between the Assassin and the Orc Boss. I guess I just wait awhile until the new miniatures are live?

If you mean the two new chaos models, those are available for subscribing in year 2 (from the end of this month)

So If I sign up in September I can get the new ones, alright then. I wonder If there is a way to get the models for both years? Or will this years models be retired when the new ones are "released".

From the article, the new ones seem to be the option now and the year one options have passed
And if you signed up for an annual subscription for Warhammer+ by the end of July, you can claim your exclusive Year One miniature in August. You’ll receive an email within the next week (if you haven’t already had one) to let you know that your free miniature is ready to order from the Games Workshop webstore.

And from the previous article, being subbed at the end of August (25th-31st) and sticking through september also gets you a voucher.
https://www.warhammer-community.com/2022/08/10/warhammer-year-two-is-nearly-here-get-ready-for-even-more-warhammer/

It could be a little more clear and laid out plainly, but if you're going to do it, it seems like the last couple days of august are the best time.

As a non-Chaos player the models are no draw to me to re-subscribe. I do think it was a bit of an odd move to tie both models to Chaos you cut off anyone who isn't a Chaos player. I've really enjoyed year one. The video content, while slow to release, has been good particularly the Battle Reports and Painting Masterclass. Add in the models and vouchers and the sub has been worth it. The Vault is a nice addition. The 40K app however is dire and is of no value.

Now if the Vault was actually useable it would go from a nice addition to probably a majority of the value of the sub. If they bothered to get anyone to take a look at and fix the 40K app it would be worth considering as part of the subs value. In this case even not liking the models I'd likely re-sub but as it is the whole thing without the models is a nice idea not quite executed properly.

Mark Gibbons comments on this model:

MG Artworks on Facebook wrote:Painted a mere 28 years ago, I think (the previously unnamed) Azrakh the Annihilator is my most-published Games Workshop piece, but it's a painting that almost never happened.

I submitted his sketch as a freelance commission to GW and when John Blanche reviewed it he asked for a more dynamic, arms-raised, posture. In a 'deeply uncharacteristic' fit of pique, I said if I couldn't paint him the way I wanted to, then I wasn't going to paint him at all!

John, not wanting to escalate my diva moment to Beyoncé-like proportions, relented and all these years later Azrakh strides onto the tabletop, courtesy of the warp-powered sculpting & painting masters within the GW Design Studio.

It's a fantastic realisation of the artwork - the cover of my fav issue of WD of all time! - and I will find a way to obtain this...

You can always sell the model on if you don't like it - there's bound to be demand for a limited edition model.

I'm surprised to read that's his most published piece. Yeah it's good and also well known but I can think of many (to my mind) more iconic works by MG.

I think you're going to have to clarify the things that make this paint job 'dreadful' here.

I think it definitely received more exposure than some of his other work

It was a WD cover plus the work was the miniatures catalogue cover.

I wouldn't say my personal Mark Gibbons drawn favourites, the Catachan Captain and a Blood Axe Kommando, are iconic but I certainly consider them to be better than that Chaos Marine.

So with the sorceress, I think each familiar corresponds with one of the four Chaos Gods:

* The Cauldron has a khorne icon on the handle (weird for a magic user, but ok)

* The fishman is probably Nurgle

* The hooded scribe is Tzeentchian

* And is the warrior meant for Slaanesh?

That's kind of cool. I guess the old familiar of the naked lady may have been better for slaanesh, but I can see why they didn't do that one. Plus the lil knight is awesome

That terminator is fantastic. A wonderful rendition of the artwork, and a pretty darn spectacular paint job.

I think that's just a skull. It has the Nurgle spot triad on the cauldron itself. Wouldn't make much sense to represent either a Khornate sorcerer, or a familiar for same.

I don't think they're intended to line up with anything specifically. The little armoured dude and the scribe at least are resculpts from the original familiar range, which had a god-specific familiar for each (that just looked like a teeny tiny Greater Daemon) and a whole bunch of generic familiars.
