Thank you for your work, Midget Gems!

Woot! I'm on the table!
Of course, those three big black blocks are pretty glaring... I'll have to make sure I stay consistent and keep painting.

So, proof pic for this month - Space Marine Vindicator. Still on sprue right now, but I figure I can get it built and painted in a month easily enough... although it has been 20 years since I last painted a tank, so if it goes horribly wrong, I have a couple of backup options.

cheers,
Michael

Right, hear me out here.. I'm an idiot. My health sucks and I've had a project on my desk waiting to be painted. A 3d printed, 10 inch tall Master chief.. And it's all ready to go even though I stand no chance in Hell of getting it fully weathered and done.. Well he has a big gun right? About as big as a dreadnought last time I saw one of those. Might be the biggest gun on the table.

Thats the sprit try too challenge yourself but also remeber that sometimes just getting anything done is the achievement, I hope your health improves soon.

No Worries Lovejoy. You have done some awesome painting in your first 2 entries so rightly deserve to be up there and in the HOF. Thanks for sharing your work with us If the challenge can help keep you painting regularly that's always a good thing.

Nice Work KidCthulhu, you got that done quickly

My proof for this month, hopefully not bitten off more than I can chew but what else can could I do other than a Massive Ork Artillery piece (Well the other idea I had was an Ork and grot playing big gun, little gun possibly a snotling thrown in there as well with a spoon)

Thanks, CancelledApocalypse! I was afraid an Inquisitor Henchmen wasn't impressive enough for this particular theme. But I like how he came out.

Really cool stuff coming. Realized that I have mostly understatement minis regarding guns atm But these buggers may fit the theme, gonna try to paint them all, let's see how many I will really get.

I'll be painting some menfish this month. One of them has a conversion beamer. THAT's a big gun alright!

That Commisar is looking great Kid-C. I love his shades! That’s some quick work this month too.

Here’s a quick progress pic from me.

I’m getting along at a fair clip myself.

That's looking great already!

I'm also bumping along quite nicely this month. Here's a proof pic and a progress pic from me for my converted Fire Dragon Wraithlord. I'm painting it in a mix of traditional fire dragon colours (red and yellow) and Craftworld Arach-Qin colours (predominantly black with red highlights). The head will eventually be yellow not white and there will be black flames up the legs, the shoulder pads and red flames on the yellow head. Plus probably some more flame motifs on the giant firepike (which I'm naming 'Incandescent Devourer' )

After promising myself last month I'd never paint yellow again, I'm painting yellow again . Though it's just the head and I'm using Imperial Fist contrast this time, which I'm really looking forward to. I hope it lives up the the hype... Anyone else have any experience with it?

Not with the yellow, but i bought a selection to trial and found some really important use cases for it.

Makes flesh easy. (this is huuuuuge for me)
certain paints really do basically do a medium to heavy wash for you - i'll get a pic of two servitors i painted roughly for comparison
the over metallic effects look great, but definitely do test pieces to see the tones before jumping in
the base coat colour becomes as important as the final layer colour

some detriments
using a wetted brush changes the paint - i only use dry brushes for applying it.
they require careful judgement of the quantities needed ont'brush for proper coverage
you have to get coverage in your first application because a second layer changes the tone of the colour - black is a good example for this.

Theres other stuff but it's very much a 'learn how it works and make utility out of that' situation with how it dries and how you can 'wick' it with the brush for a short time after application (very short time period)

some knights in boltgun metal base and talassar blue
Spoiler:

paint comparison with gun servitors
Spoiler:
contrast paint on the right, normal paint+wash on the left

Great job on him, and fast too! The month's barely begun.

theCrowe - I've always loved that model, can't wait to see it finished!

CancelledApocalypse - excellent conversion on that Wraithlord, looks fantastic.

I'm running a bit behind, as all I've done so far is build the model... (and I've forgotten to drill out the exhausts!)

I've not tried putting a tank on a base before... but I've got a Land Raider to do for this army, and it'll be modelled going over berm, so that'll have to be on a base. So I figured this tank should go on a base too.
Really not sure about it though. I reckon I'll paint them separately as far as possible, and decide at the end whether to use the base or not.

cheers,
Michael

Pardon the excess flash - I just wanted to snap off a quick in-progress photo to document the sheer anxiety of holding Brother Chonker here upside-down by the stand to get my brush in at the right angle. Never painted anything this bloody heavy before; back in the day the chunkiest I ever got my hands on were assault marines with their jumppacks, or the attack bike with its metal sidecar.

Contrasts help so much with yellow. Army Painter sand golem is my go to and you can get some great blends with its reactivating.

Chief is ready to be primed. I'm going to get the air brush out for him tomorrow and figure out what shade of green he needs to be. Thinking of a limeish shade like he was in Halo 3. I was thinking of getting some colour shift paint to give the green armour something different to the black under suit but we'll see how that goes.

The base isn't great. I won't say it is. I wanted to have the flood grunge leaking off the base but the balance was so off I had to keep expanding and expanding.

Really enjoying the posts this thread. So many great projects I can't wait to see finished. Big guns was a great theme.

Can I enter this? Scratchbuilt "liftwood" gunship - the chin cannon is a kind of plasma cannon, and there are missiles under the wings. Proper pics to follow if the entry is accepted, and at some point I will do a post on how I put it together!

And with his stuff.

One Goblin Doomdiver ready to outgun the actual guns!

Edit: (Spoilered because these pics are massive! Does it help to post such large pictures? It always seems to me the smaller ones are blurry in the thread unless you link to the main gallery picture.)

Spoiler:

The theme was “wings” or something, right?

Well he didn't fall off the painting handle after all, so here are the newest members of Death Blossom, the heavy support contingent of the Bringers of Wonder, who I feel are similarly indiscriminate to their Last Starfighter namesakes, not so much bothering to aim as just slinging an enormous amount of ordnance into the air and trusting Slaanesh to sort it out.

Other views behind the spoiler:

Spoiler:

So yeah, the v1 Obliterator remains in his blister pack for the moment.

Edited because I realised the main photo is pretty zoomed in anyway, those 'closeups' weren't adding much of anything, so I pulled them back out of their cabinet and snapped some all-round angles.

Some more pics of exactly what this thing is:

This is the Allied Sky Vessel "Dauntless", a liftwood & Vril-powered Skycutter equipped with the latest in Grand Alliance shielding & enchantment nullification technology and with Vrilfire tipped missiles capable of bringing down even the mightiest dragon... think steampunk Apache gunship, basically!

Shown here in support of a Sky Marine task force engaging a renegade Orc warband.

The entire thing was made if junk and basic household stuff and cost me a grand total of £0, at some point I'll be linking the build tutorial

@skinflint - Love your upcycling approach. The Rawlplug class seeker missiles in particular work well.

For the purposes of the contest, do you have a "proof picture" showing that you painted it this month?

Speaking of proof picture. Finally managed to get my entry printed and assembled.

Its quite a big gun.

wait... something is not quite right... Oh yes, the scale! There we are, much bigger
