At this point I'm just not touching imperials anymore. Scale is a constant aggravating factor to consider with every imperial army besides maybe Mechanicum (im lumping them in) and I want to give SOB a pass since they look so damn good but even they are pretty tall. Its crazy that in the past 5-6 years for marines alone we've gotten 4 different firstborn marine scales (deathwatch firstborn scale, new chaos scale, old stumpy MK4 and MK3 scale, Mk6 firstborn scale) and primaris. I don't think that's acceptable personally. Now we got it happening with guard, hard pass.
Xenos just don't have this issue at all, especially the newer Eldar stuff, obviously if you compare a guardian to an older aspect warrior theres a difference but they are slowly getting updates. Tau have some residual stumpy leg syndrome but they're alright overall. Scale doesn't really matter with Orks, since they're all sorts of sizes, but even the new push fit ork boyz fit right in with the near 20 year old boyz set.
I know that this may cause some people to want to throw their screens out the nearest windom but...... does the base on that new guardsman look a little big to you :O:O:O
If a basic guardsman isn't on a 25mm anymore what is? they look like 28mm to me.
I'm not doing it, I'm not rebasing my guard!!!!!!!!
I said the same about my marines and daemons......
There's an article on Spikeybits from a couple hours ago that shows some more side by sides.
It looks like the Kasrkin are deliberately bigger, but the new Guardsmen look like they're the same size as the old Guardsmen, but better proportioned.

SIGH.
Nope. I think everyone's getting a bit worked up over one not-particularly-accurate image tbh.
Interesting to see the additional pictures. The new sculpts of the Cadians are nicer than the earlier ones, but for some reason I'm not liking the look of the new helmets. Will be curious to see what the actual comparison is once they are released.
None of that will interest me enough to buy them, but it does make me want to dig out my Guard again.

Looking at this pic it does look like the the Karskin is taller than a regular marine and almost as big as a 30k beakie.
If I'm honest, I'm not actually that annoyed by differences between factions. Space Marine's have never been properly scaled against other races anyway. The difference between the Stormtrooper and guardsman though is dire.

Because people can feth up Photoshopping really easily, especially if you're trying to be precise. But at the very basic level, please try to get everyone's feet on the same line.
You can see the Cadian is a few pixels off the same horizontal line that the Kasrkins feet are flush to. Likewise you can see the Space Marines are also off. In fact looking at them all together it appears as though the Kasrkin is pushed down slightly. And that's not getting into the trickiness of making sure all the base sizes are appropriately scaled, and unfortunately it's a little hard to tell with the Kasrkin again, because one of its base edges is obscured by another models base. Call it nitpicky, but these minor things can mean a millimeter or two, and at this scale a millimeter or two can matter.
Photos are much better, HOWEVER this one isn't great either:
Spoiler:
The Kasrkin is pushed to the foreground and the older Cadian is behind it. Depending on your FOV that can result in a pretty large apparent difference in size. . . see the LOTR movies
Best scale pics are photos of models in a straight line perpendicular to the viewing angle of the lens, preferably with a narrower FOV to minimize distortion. If you're going to use the GW pics, be REALLY careful about base sizes and placement. Take care to note that the mmlabel of a base size is often not it's actual size too. Like a 40mm is actually 40mm, but a 60mm is actually 65ish.

I just want to throw out there that I'd love to see more folks include actual sole-to-eye measurements in their scale comparisons. A new product comes out and there will be a host of blogs and videos showing the new miniatures, often with comparisons to old ones. Yet, I rarely see reviewers take the time to break out the ruler and make a measurement.
In even the best pictures it can be tough to show the relative sizes of miniatures when dealing with millimeters especially when you consider tricks the eye/mind may play when dealing with different bulks and varying headwear.
The only thing I would suggest is pulling the camera further away and then using the zoom to frame the shot. You'll minimize distortion towards the ends of a longer line of models. You can see models stretch horizontally as they near the sides of the frame.
Dang those minotaur minis are cool.

Are the regular Cadians still closer to original scale?
"The larger point though, is that as players, we have more control over what the game looks and feels like than most of us are willing to use in order to solve our own problems"
So are these 28.5mm bases a new thing? I haven't heard of them before these Kasrkin, and if they specifically made a new base size to fit their one oversized kit....I can't begin to rationalize that...

IIRC they were introduced with the redesigned Howling Banshees.

Thanks for the advice. Always looking for little ways to make the blog better. If I get back to having a proper camera instead of my terrible cell phone I'll try that.
Minor tangent...
If you like the stock Minotaurs, they're even better with a weapons upgrade.

It was a rhetorical question. Like I said, no photo will please some of you. Hell, it's likely that a professional photographer could line everything up & there'd still be moaning. Yet still the request for pics...

Huh I have never encountered them in the wild as of yet.

Seems pretty untrue to me. Reference pics need to be of a reasonable quality. Photoshops can be highly sus, and bad photoshops can perpetuate absolute falsehoods, so best to sort those out nice and quick.

I believe they were first introduced with the Warcry warbands in late 2019.

Late 2019 is when they entered the fray with Howling Banshees, Sister Repentias, and the aforementioned Warcry bands.
After that we've seen them being introduced more and more with a lot of stuff existing on 25mm now being put on 28.5 bases. All the new Aeldari that used to be 25mm is now 28.5mm.
