I quite like the figure. To me it makes sense that the battlefield commander of an entire segmentum has highly ornate armour and has oodles of money pumped into making his gear top tier and bespoke. It's also probably supposed to be almost a dress uniform, which fits. He's likely a high lord of Terra, so why wouldn't he get the best kit?
My only gripe is that the "mostly cybernetic" horse looks too much like a normal horse at a passing glance. The cybernetics are there, you just have to pay attention. This is contrary to what I said about him having the best kit available though. Just my personal taste.

I quite like that it's out of place because honestly if he was fluffed correctly it would make sense. 40k is heavily based on WW1 attitudes to war and one of the reasons WW1 was such a shitshow was because the leaders were mired in the past, never went anywhere near the frontlines and had no idea how the war was actually being fought or the tactics being used. If the Lord Solar was fluffed as someone who barely left the Sol system until now and was forced out into the wider galaxy by Guilliman like the Astartes his out of place appearance would make sense because he would represent the guard officers who barely saw frontline combat and saw warfare as a glorious and noble thing and believed that impressive looking leaders issuing order from horseback inspired the soldiers and raised morale.
From his fluff blurb in the WarCom article he really sounds like he should be a guy looking at a map surrounded by advisors. Even that would still fit because it makes the implication that his success is because of those advisors rather than any talent on his part. It would be a great opportunity to sneak a sculpt of Edmund Blackaddar into the game. But GW don't do that level of commentary anymore so he's probably going to be fluffed as the bestest ever tactician who can out tactic everyone and everyone loves him because he's so cool and smart.

That is not true. The leaders in WWI had the expiriance of multiple cases of monder warfare, and very much knew what would happen to the common soldier. They just didn't care one bit about a the rank of division general or under, unless they were their next of kin. And even then sometimes not even that.
What was making WWI not work as it was intended, aside for some suprising facts about both the austrian and russian army, was the fact that in the High Command structure of each country, your co-officers were often just as much or even more an enemy, then the actual enemy. Because of politics and what was suppose to happen after the war and victory.
It would be great to have a Belisarius or Alexander style general, someone who had enough of politics and decided to take his private host to any war theater they fancy, because the every day life and politics are not what they want.

He's not part of any particular army - Cadian, Krieg, Catachan, Tallarn, etc. He's the guy in charge of all of them. So how's he supposed to look?
Likewise the old Lord Solar on foot didn't match any of the Guard regiments on sale at the time.

Ibram Gaunt's sword would be a good example perhaps, yet the model for that had the bubbly thing on it. (I think that is the older official GW model. Happy to be corrected)

Um, for once Karol is right and you're 100% wrong. Russian/Japanese war of 1905 saw the exact same type of warfare as WW1, machine guns, trenches, artillery, the works, it just ended right as it was starting to degenerate into full industrial WW1 style war because Japan ran out of money and Russia called it quits due to strikes and uprisings at home. This is also one of the reasons why Russian Tzar was desperately trying to stop WW1 from coming and only joined reluctantly/trying diplomacy to the very end instead of eagerly mobilizing like other powers because Russians had clue it won't end well and the whole 'home by christmas' thing was hopeless delusion.

They would and they did. the goal of the war , for most high ranking officers was gaining political power in the post war time, even in case of german use of gas weapons, the raports came with all the needed data. This many enemy soldiers will die, this many will be crippled, this long the gas will stay, this type of win is needed, and because those people were no fools, the reports also came with stuff like information on how many german soldiers would die in case of wind changing. German High Command reaction to this report? Put silesian and ex dutchy of posen troops in the first lines aka poles, so in case of wind changing they would suffer the highest loses. Mass machine gun use was known since break of XIXth and XXth century. Mass use of artilery and long time trenchwarfare since the balkan wars. Mass use of formations, specialy the breacher ones, was partialy based on what Napoleon was using in early XIXth century, but in case of Russian, Prussians/Germans and Austrians and the French it was also based on the results of the 1870 war.
Painting members of WWI high commands or general stuff as fools, who were stuck in pre XIXth century warfare. Is both wrong and not nice for the people that had to enact the plans. Vally fights by the Italians were done with 100% certaninty of the high command what is going to happen to the troopers that take part in mountain warfare, but the state and the military was more interested in the division of colonial assets post war, then what is going to happen to some 18-20y old no ones. And while WWI was a revolution in the air battle. How could one explain that the same officers of the same generations somehow were unknowing fools to send infantry to die en mass in the meat grinder, while at the same time devising plans of us modern torpedos and torpedo boats to take out dreadnoughts.
Even the anti civilian and total war policies of WWI have been trained durning the Bur and opium wars. So while cruel, maybe even more cruel if they were fools, I don't think your picture of how WWI looked like is right.

Not sure how to past photos but just look up lord solar mecharius Stl and you will see a much better model.

A little gripe of mine unrelated to the model itself; I feel like his name is the wrong way round.
Leontus Arcadian sounds more naturally name-like than Arcadian Leontus. Like if someone was called Smith David.

Time out --- Yarrick Died??? When did he die? My god have i been gone so long that Yarrick has died when i was away.
I honestly thought the combined psychic power of the Orks were keeping him alive because they all thought he was such a bad ass to Die because they all believed that nothing short of the hand or Gork could bring down this great enemy.
As to the new Lord Solar, you guys are just upset that he does not have crap all over him, like nearly every other Imperium model. This model is so clean that he stands out as a centrepiece model for you IG army.
