Subject: Godzilla Day 2022 - Toho Announce New Japanese Godzilla Film
The King of the Monsters still reigns in Japan — and most other places.
Godzilla’s grasp on fans and pop culture began 68 years ago, but the radioactive mega lizard’s influence on global audiences has been growing due to recent box office successes and increasing access on streaming services.
To capitalize on this moment, Toho, the Japanese film studio that owns the monster and licenses it to Legendary in the U.S., said it will produce a new Godzilla film a year from Thursday, the anniversary of the monster’s first film.
The untitled movie, which will first be released in Japan and then later to the United States and other markets, will be Toho’s first since “Shin Godzilla” in 2016. Toho has released few details about the new film, other than Takashi Yamazaki — a prolific filmmaker who worked on visual effects for “Shin Godzilla” — will direct the movie.
“Godzilla’s long history has shaped the world of pop culture and monster fandom for nearly 70 years,” said Lora Cohn, managing director of Toho International, the L.A.-based subsidiary of film, theater production and distribution company Toho.
Toho tweeted a teaser poster of the upcoming movie with its release date.
Spoiler:
It will be interesting to see how this new film compares to the Legendary films in general and the Shin Godzilla film in particular.

It's Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex, and you could have at least posted it for them...

It was as stiff and uninteresting as the worst Heisei “fireball fight” matches, with Godzilla feeling almost bored by the enemy attacks. It didn’t help that the animation technique was as choppy and lifeless as Final Wars’ CGI Rodan.
OG Gigan was threatening. He made Godzilla bleed. And he had a personality, at least a hint of one.
Godzilla vs. Gigan Rex (ゴジラ VS ガイガンレクス Gojira buiesu Gaigan Rekusu) is a 3D-animated Godzilla short film written and directed by Takuya Uenishi. It is a sequel to Uenishi's 2019 fan film G vs. G which he submitted to GEMSTONE's Godzilla contest, winning the chance to work with Toho in an official capacity. It was screened during Godzilla Fest 2022 on November 3, 2022 and subsequently released on YouTube.
And here's the aforementioned G vs. G:

Eh. I appreciate the throwback to Showa-era film fights with a Heisi-era aesthetic but cheap CGI has increasingly become a bane on Japanese productions XD
I'm still somewhat flabbergasted that Chainsaw Man has such god-awful CGI at times when out of all the adaptations being made this year, it seems like the one you'd most want to put a real animation budget behind.

Did you not read my previous post that explains that this was a fan film?

I did not. I saw the first post.
That doesn't really make me like the CGI more though. Just means I'm not gonna be as mean about it XD
