This was fun to wake up to. I absolutely love the two new Grot sets. They look like they will be so much fun to paint. I just wish there were more Gitmob units coming.

There's at least one more Gloomspite mini on the way. This rumour engine isn't from any of the previewed minis.

Does anyone else feel that Arks of omen looks a bit like Gathering Storm, replacing Calgar with Abbadon and Cawl with Vashtorr the Arkifane?

Wolf riding gobbos and demonic tech priest are my favourites. I also like that squig launcher from Underworlds warband and Jugger WE.

I suspect that is actually for the Kruleboyz, along with the rumor engine pic from 10-4-22.

Insect-Infested Nurgle Chaos Lord

Well that was interesting. The goblins and beastlord look ok, can't really comment on the minutiae as I don't really collect those.

The Khorne guys. As a concept, I love them, this sort of halfway between power and terminator armor... but, (this is a problem that plagues many a GW studio model, but is particularly egregious in Chaos) what is going on with the, lovely healthy-looking flesh these guys have? Based on the description, you would not think the regular versions of these were possessed at all. The exalted versions below are what I envisioned based on the description, but they still have the healthy flesh (there's only hints of it in the buzzsaw claw with the greyish flesh on one of them).
Why not have some ruddy red flesh like the Wrathmongers or Skarr Bloodwrath (both of which are roughly the same concept on display here)? This is most obviously a problem in GW's studio Death Guard scheme, but it appears to be infecting (heh!) every aspect of Chaos studio minis. Give these a good gore-soaked paintjob and I reckon people's opinion on them will change. Kit wise, I fear these are more Deathshroud than Exalted Sorcerers in terms of parts. Looks like a box of the aforementioned Wrathmongers/Skullreapers from AoS might need to be picked up to get some variation and/or stretch the parts from this box.

Jakhals look nice, but I fear this is another terrible value box like the regular garden variety Cultists kit. Look like they've got some interesting options. Maybe an eviscerator there and (my eyes might be deceiving me) but that big dude with the mace full of skulls looks to be on a larger base than the rest. Problem with that is, is every single unit will have this very distinctive-looking guy, a thing that many a modern kit suffers from due to them being monopose.

Jugger Lord looks decent. Not difficult to not go wrong there. Love the face on the Jugger in particular.

Now for the new DP. The Arkifane, or whatever his name is. Gut reaction is a thumbs up, the creepy face and the slightly too long limbs are perfect, but I'm not a fan of the wings, look far too much like some random Necron parts stuck on him at first glance (something to do with their silhouette). I see what they were going for, but they should have looked a bit more like the biomechanical wings on various Cryx models from Warmachine. Look at minis like Lich Lord Terminus, Denny3 or the Scavenger and Shrike bonejacks for what IMO the wings should have been like. If I ever get this guy, I'll leave them off and probably stick some of the Dinobot tentacles there to make some big mechanendrites. I'll reserve full judgement of the pose when I see a 360, as it looks a tad static, but it should be easily reposeable with easy to do daemon flesh melded with machinery.

Looks like Gitz win AoS third edition, they get a whole unit with their book rather than a hero.

The old meta is dead and the new meta struggles to be born. Now is the time of munchkins.

The Goblins new book... has the same front cover as the current one? Is that normal for new AoS books?

New Wolf Riders are nifty.

So far most have got new covers and a couple have kept the old covers.

Fyreslayers, night haunt, skaven, sylvaneth kept old at least.

So not normal but not unheard either. Bit irritating but luckily it's just a cover and doesn't even indicate how much rules change. Nighthaunt for example went for big overhaul in rules and power.

My first thoughts precisely. New Gaspy model is always welcome!

The eightbound look great, although I'm not enamoured with comedy clawed feet on the Exalted.

Scrapwalkers look great. Go Cawdor!!

The goblin stuff I like - nice to see the wolf riders make a comeback.

Ark of Omens - I like the broad idea - but 4 books?

You were expecting more? Seeing it says "rest of series" sounds there's more though.

Less than 4 was never realistic option anyway.

Vashtorr worries me because if GW keep putting out a whole additional range of Dark Mechanum models like that I'm going to find it very very hard to resist. Tis an awesome model and honestly best of the ones released during this preview!

Really happy to see wolf riding goblins for the Gitz and hope we might see chariots and a few other things they lost in the shift to AoS slip their way back in too.

Beastmen getting a new leader is nice, not as nice as a range update, but its good to see them get a new solid model.

Overall really liking this wave of models! Chaos is certainly ending this year with a boom of releases in both AoS and 40K and with Worldeaters done this means surely that Slaanesh's take on Chaos Legions must be following (plastic noise marines approach!)

Vashtor looks great!
He will most definitaly find a home on my shelf even though I find the "wings" stupid.
Unlike Belakor he will probably be able to gather some followers instead of rejecting 90% of the chaos units at hand.

Also, the wolfriders look really nice. Just strangely sober next to the weird comic relief mushroom junkies of the nightgoblin clan.

We've been seeing the makings of a traitor guard army for years now and it hasn't happened.

I wouldn't worry about a Dark Mech army any time soon.

Isn't ark of omens pretty much just a clone of broken realms? Down to each book being named after a character? If so, there's your lead in to tenth.

Vashtorr is excellent, I love the head and the spindly nature. I love the idea behind him. I would love to do a small army made of him and Chaos servitors that had realised what they had become and sworn to destroy the Imperium that created their hideous life. I think clearly the Dark Mechanicum will be part of his stuff. It seems that they would worship Vashtorr. I might turn him into a Tech Priest for my Admech.

The Cawdor walkers are excellent, hilarious little analogue of the original sentinel models. I definitely want some in time.

Also the Gloomspite Gits are brilliant, love the face of the one with the mushroom trumpet. The wolf riders are quite nice as well, nice advance on the old models.

World Eaters are meh. Not too fussed.

Overall, not bad.

Yes. And with 15 pages of fluff per book.

That'll be $80x4 please.

Actually, I thought 4 books was too much. I like the broad idea of interior battles, and sure, a narrative event to showcase it, but it seems spread thin.

Pretty sure I’ll be buying the Gobbo Underworlds set. They’re groovy little models packed full of character. Actually tempted to *gasp* paint them!

Ok, so the first book has all the rules for boarding actions plus missions, so what the Hell is in the other ones? Rules for Vashtor in 3rd obviously, but that would be pretty thin.

No idea. I’m just hoping they’re not too expensive. I’m a right dirty slag for background, especially new background. But £25 for 16 pages is….pushing it. Around £20 I think I’d bite though.

Apart from lack of matched play rules yea.

It was predictable release for the spring and the 10th in 2023 is hardly a secret
