/s for sarcasm is pretty old in the internet and also around for several languages (all those were sarcasm is a word starting with s)
and yes it is pretty plausible for people really going by that as the cult of officialdom is strong with GW and people rather buy old models they don't like than using any alternative as by doing so they are not collecting TOW any more
hence why 3D printing is big with GW games, you can have carbon copies for cheap so you pay less but still have an "official" army

Surely you already know 'people' who don't like price and design of the metal River Trolls but buy them nonetheless because they think the plastic WHFB models now have the AoS stigma on them?

This baffles me! I love Michael Perry's stone trolls to death. They're some of my favorite models. However, i think Seb's plastic river trolls are a great modern take on Michaels old River Trolls. I like them better.
Also, in recent years i wanted a second unit of 6 stone trolls and i couldn't get the old metal ones so i bought the new plastics. Still going to use those in my troll army. They're not as classic as Michael's stone trolls, but it's still a fine kit.

The game will live or die based off sells though and if it gets killed again, we all know what going through playing a dead game is like...hence the push to support ToW releases at least from my perspective. Today's article stating it's been successful does bode well for the future...

the game lives or die by GW marketing and releases and by decision making
we are not going to save if we by everything no matter if we like it or not
and ask the Blood Bowl players what it means playing a dead game, as just being "not supported by GW" does not mean a game is dead
and going by support, TOW is dead for the next 18 months until all factions have models to buy

I know 2 people from Germany, independent from each other who are mourning the prices but buy the bretonnian metal knights because those are the "original"
they also did not play any other fantasy game since Warhammer was killed because there was no official R&F games and they don't like skirmish games so no AoS
while others only use the AoS models because they think the old Warhammer ones are terrible but therefore only use the Legacy armies because there are no "official" models

I believe that this line of thinking is a bit of none of our business?
What X collector deems has "official" depends a lot on his personal background right? We all have a quirky mindset.
Personally I think that any form of getting into TOW is a plus to TOW. If you intend to play at a GW official store though just follow whatever that store guidelines are. Simples.

If I'm honest, as much as I love warhammer I do not care if the old world dies due to lack of sales. I'll continue to play warhammer with what ever models I like. I'm very pleased that includes being able to buy models I love in new fancier (slightly more expensive) packaging but them killing the game off before didn't stop me. It won't stop me again.
I would never, ever tie my hobby to anyone one range or company. Look at the people that did that, who then felt they had to go out an burn their armies when the game was dropped before.
AoS make for great warhammer fantasy models. As do oathmark, victrix, bloodbowl, warlord games and a whole heap of other companies:
Chances are GW already know if they have any intention of killing the game off again due to sales and a few sales of AoS kits or rescue jobs from old collections or even a few 3d prints isn't going to change that. GW probably have much better data on their target audience who will buy everything who buy into the 'warhammer experience' as a complete package, people who don't see the wider wargaming hobby.
People that want to stick to the WFB range only, its one way to hobby sure. But if they are refusing to not buy models simply because they are now under the AoS brand then that is a little silly as a good percentage of the game is still just repackaged WFB models.
With AoS still having this perceived stigma still, I'm really, really tempted to do something annoying like enter armies on parade with the most AoS-y force I can on square bases I can with a backdrop that says 'Warhammer AoS regiments', all done up with the old world rulebook blue. I understood peoples annoyance when AoS first replaced WFB but both games exist again now...and still people can't let it go

Just to add my two cents: taste is the one thing you can't argue about.
I like some oldhammer models, some newer warhammer models and some aos models.
For example, I adore the old stone trolls, but also love the new Ushoran. I don't like Trish' Troll Hag, but own a 3d printed copy of the Total War hag that is a little bit smaller but awesome, so I'll use that, or my Trugg model.
If the old models become (somewhat) widely available again, that's just a win-win situation.
What i do find weird is that they release the O&G before the last bits of Brets and TK....I mean, I've been waiting almost four months for Elisse, which they said would be released 'On release or soon after'...

There aren't Bretonnian models in the AoS range and the metal-only models never had a newer plastic release. The metal River Trolls aren't that old (1995/6?) to attract the die-hard Oldhammer players - I mean at that time GW already had the plastic wolves and boars they now sell again. And even there the (great) Skeleton Horde box is accepted.
My bet is that most people who buy the metal Trolls just like them, mostly have the plastic ones too and want to have more diversity. Raging about prices is common and understandable, but refusing to add an older WHFB kit now sold in the AoS range to your army you like and instead buy some metals you don't like? I think you really overestimate the GW cult regarding GW models.

To be fair though, as the metal river trolls were replaced in 2010, 4 years before Warhammer stopped being a thing and the Bretonnian models were pulled out of production in 2014, technically they've been discontinued longer.
I remember that time very well, stepping into a GW store to pick up the new River Trolls and Boar Boyz. I must be a minority here, but those two kits still remain some of my favorite plastics. What Brian Nelson did for orcs was extraordinary and Seb Perbert's upgrade to the River Trolls was fantastic.

Both the classic metal river- and stone trolls were designed by Michael Perry. The troll Hag was designed by Trish Carden. The plastic river trolls were designed by Seb Perbert. The AOS trolls are everyone's guess. To be complete: the common trolls for O&G were designed by Mark Anderson, the metal Chaos Trolls were designed by Trish Carden, Throgg the Trollking was designed by Seb Perbert and the Bile Trolls were designed by Steve Whitehead.

Just realised that apart from the characters next week GW has not mentioned or shown any night goblins or squigs in relation to the new army book.
Trolls, orcs and common goblins, and even go on about a troll army and all mounted orc army in Warhammer Community article today.
As someone rebasing 400 damned night goblins, they had better be there....

It does! It's the most fun army by a good margin. It's also one of the most diverse and difficult armies. You wouldn't think it from the fluff, but i often have to think harder while playing O&G than i do when i play Bretonnia. Bretonnia is like a precision scalpel, with a clear plan. O&G are so diverse and unpredictable that they'll often leave my face in a thinking-crumple while playing. Always laughing though! I love them to bits.
Impetuous instead of animosity is a really big change for the army overall i think. Probably one of the biggest changes for any of The Old World armies.
