^Who could play that role? I think they are pitting chaos against Cathay in the new starter that’s rumored which to me is fitting. I do wanna see Kislev at some point in the future though. Seeing how well they did with the Cathay sculpts gives me hope for men riding polar bears!

I guess they could expand the lore of the region beyond the bastion but before the worst parts of the chaos wastes.

It's such a vast area that I refuse to believe all of it is a complete wasteland devoid of anything approaching civilisation. It could even be a cool chance to see a more "Eastern" Chaos where the cultures have been living with this reality for thousands of years. That it isn't the exact same as the Western expression of Chaos.
Spoiler:

Part of the problem (imho) with this rapid scale expansion is the massive supercontinent of the northern chaos wastes. It feels like there should be seas up there to break it up.

I assume GW management would rather eat glass than try to reintroduce the Pygmies

From the way Creative Assembly shot down speculation about Ind and Khuresh in WH Total War, we can assume that GW has no intention of working on them.
The most straightforward antagonist for Cathay would be the Ogre Kingdoms, although they're more neutral. Along with Chaos Dwarfs they would make a nice geographical bridge to Cathay as well. The rumoured AoS Ogor refresh would free up the range for rerelease in TOW, whether they actually do so is pure speculation.
Chaos Dwarfs are also difficult to reintroduce as they would be a weird mix of very classic models and relatively recent resin models, and they might step on AoS's toes too much.

Most of the AOS models (other than Skaven & Lizardmen) are too Flanderised to come back into the Old World. The goblin wolf riders might work for the Khanate but that's about it. It would be cool to see somebody convert one up. It's a shame GW has this rule of no mixing ranges.

Honest to god those Chaos Dwarfs needs to be studied. We already had an idea of what their aesthetic would be with the Horns of Hashut and they couldn't even stick with that. Awful, awful looking army. Being so concerned about IP that you throw away your iconic designs for garbage. A familiar lesson GW will refuse to learn.

"Come back" of course only applies to models that are originally from WHFB; like the Ogres, and Dark Elves and Dwarfs in CoS. No one is really expecting AoS original models to be ported to TOW, with the exception of the plastic Beastlord (or the plastic Ogre Tyrant; fingers crossed).

GW not mixing ranges is not a problem if the ranges exist in parallel or if the AoS range still fits the aesthetic (Skaven, Lizardmen, Death/Vampire Counts to some extent). It's the armies like Dark Elves, that have been completely dropped from both games, that are the most bothersome.
Nevertheless, I just bought some of the current Ogres in anticipation of the AoS refresh and the old WHFB models disappearing.

The point still stands that Cathay were plopped into a world that wasn't particularly ready for them.

I had forgotten about those Orc Raiders, they're fantastic.
That reminds me of the Orc Animosity model, pity that it's not included in this MTO.

What's wrong with the AoS Slaves to Darkness? The AoS Chosen are some of the best models GW has ever done.

Like with most things AOS, everything is just overdone, especially the "action" poses.

Technically great, but they are very "masters of the universe" in style, to me at least

The AoS Chosen have that whole "armour designed for an MMO by people who don't actually know anything about armour they just want something that looks cool and bulky" thing going on. The regular AoS Warriors have pretty recognisable armour in the same way the 6th plastics did - obviously it's not "realistic full harness", but it's something you can imagine a person wearing and fighting in - and then the Chosen get weird torso armour that leaves their midriff exposed and goofy rounded WoW pauldrons. The old WHFB metal Chosen were wonky but they were recognisably just Chaos Warriors with even more armour and extra trim. Ironically those new Rotsword models - once you snip off the silly barnacle-things - are IMO a better fit for WHF Nurgle Chosen than the StD Chosen.

Hard disagree there.

Not on the it not being practical armour. But it’s nothing to do with MMO Stylings.

The AoS Models are modern Realm of Chaos style designs. Leaning into the fantastical more than the historical to visually describe warriors at various degrees round the bend of worshipping insane gods.

Chaos armour is literally not 'worn', it's part of the body, thus giving licence to do whatever one wants design-wise, especially once mutation starts warping it.

Where did those baby dragons originiate from? I've never seen them before!

I just hope the prices aren't as obscene as the Vostroyans were. $38.50 for a single guardsman with a special weapon was... a choice.

TOW M2O tends to be more reasonably priced. The only recent 40k M2O I thought was fairly priced was the Eldar one.

Yeah, none of the old world MTO have been as obnoxiously priced as the 40k ones. Though I'm sure GW are still ready to surprise us all.

I think I'm in the minority here, but i really dislike all the new chaos warrior and knight models. They are so busy. I like some details, but not that much. It all becomes one jumbled mess to me. It would probably help if they were painted black, as the metalics aren't doing the sculpts much favour. The lord on horse is espcially bad in this regard. It totally lacks a focus point to me. I think the old lord on demonic mount (the one with the squid arm) is still leaps better.

It also feels bad that gw does people who just bought a whole warrior army 1.5, 2 years ago somewhat dirty.with this complete range reboot.

The dragon looks cool though and i'm glad that they are making new models for the old world. I hope it won't be a massive succes though; i like the game as a specialist game. Gives it some time to breath between rotations.

Yeah at first glance they looked good but I mean glance, as soon as you scrutinise them even slightly they're a proper mess, knights and warriors both. Dragon looks great.
