So the news is (from a friend who owns the store I buy kits from) that in January there will be a good amount of change to make the gene stealers a bit more balanced! I myself don't play them but I would like the opinions of those who do!

I will reply to the comments in a day or two, have a good one!

Store owners don't get any inside information. He's probably just assuming that the upcoming quarterly balance dataslate will include some buffs, which is a safe assumption given that GSC are one of the lowest-performing armies in competitive play.

In other news, there will be at least one space marine release in 2023, PM ME FOR DETAILS.

Not sure about January, but there's rumours about a Nid and Marine box at the start of 10th.

They should go back to being troops in the nid codex. They seem to be much better in the GSC book

It's the Genestealer Cults Codex that's crappy, not the Nids' Dex.

How bout no...

Unless you're running something that changes their role, they should always be Elites.

Not up on modern Nids. But do they have Infiltrate? Because as the quintessential Vanguard Organisms, they bloody well should.

Hell, bring back their hypnotic glare, so they can pick one enemy unit or character the brood is in combat with to Fight Last.

Not really. Infiltratey ones are the GSC stealers. Tyranid ones are just another cannon fodder organism like any other, deployed en masse. You can make argument Lictors should infiltrate because that's their main role but that's it, Tyranid book represents rather unsubtle invasions raining down from orbit, not the initial scouts/cults stage.

In any case, if GW fixes GSC, I hope they do it in more competent way than the clown who did SM. Improving "win" chances by giving army gamey, OP mission that leads to technical "win" on paper while your army was still completely trashed in game is really sour for both sides...

Even in the Hive Fleets, Genestealers remain Vanguard Organisms, as they can happily operate out of synaptic range, and have enough intelligence to use door opening panels, making them highly efficient at infiltrating enemy installations.

It's called a pyrrhic victory, look it up. As a narrative player, pyrrhic victories sell the setting really well since that's generally how GW plays them anyway.

That is nice for narrative players, but open or crusade are not how most people play the game.

If you have to kill, then kill in the best manner. If you slaughter, then slaughter in the best manner. Let one of you sharpen his knife so his animal feels no pain.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Yeah Genestealers got hit with the nerf bat pretty hard between the previous 'Nid 'Dex and the current one.

It'd be nice if they were worth taking.

Genies being put into the elite slot are part of what put me off 9th edition. Personally I'd swap them with warriors due to their more advanced nature.

Also, some of us liked the theme of a Broodlord leading it's swarm of genies...

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

Well in matched, unless the mission has some stipulation, it doesn't matter how many units/models I have left at the end of the game. (Other than bragging rights)
Every model in my force is 100% expendable - so long as I finish with more VP than the other guy.

In Crusade? No, a pyrrhic victory is absolutely NOT a fine outcome. That's alot of chances my units accrue battle damage - wich wastes my Requisition Points repairing.

It’s not like the nid codex needs help…

It has nothing to do with helping the codex.
It has everything with wanting to run a pure Genestealer force led by a broodlord.
