From Sprues & Brews:
Awesome news for any Warhammer fans who are also philatelists (That’s stamp collectors to the uninitiated!)
On the 8th June 2023, Royal Mail in the UK will be releasing a range of commemorative Warhammer postage stamps! There’s been many awesome special stamps released over the years, but this is the first time we’ve seen any official Warhammer ones!
We don’t have many details yet, but with 2023 being Warhammer’s big 40th birthday (the original game was released July 1983) then I suspect this is lined up to celebrate that!
You tend to get a range of different collectibles in each special release, from first day covers (An envelope with special artwork adorned with the new stamps and franked with the release date) to framed sets of the entire collection and nice presentation booklets filled with info and artwork, and I suspect there will be lots of cool things we’ll all want to pick up as part of this!
And dont forget these are not just collectibles, they are fully legal postage stamps too, so you might even see them on any post that you get over the summer!
We’ll have more news as we get it, but keep an eye on the Royal Mail website as we approach June, as I suspect some of the cool collectibles will be very very popular!
There's nothing on the Royal Mail site yet...

The objective of the game is to win. The point of the game is to have fun. The two should never be confused. |

Awesome, I love this idea! Wonder what the image or series will be.
I live in Australia now so I don't even know how I could get any but I still think it's a cool thing they're doing. Interesting how the Warhammer collective items have increased over the past years to include coins and now stamps.
Last year I made my own little themed stamps for Aeronautica Imperialis and the stamp value was the point cost of the flyer concerned. I stuck them on flight list rosters and postcards too hehe. Fun times.

I must admit that I really like the Marvel set I picked up with all of the art by Alan Davis.
The collection special sets tend to contain stamps that won't be general release outside of those packs.
Royal Mail invented "Gotta catch them all" first.
40K is cool but IRON MAIDEN! DAME SHIRLEY BASSEY!

I noted that the list just says "Warhammer", and not explicitly 40K. I would laugh if it turned out to be a range of images from the now discontinued WFB range.
But I suspect GW was consulted. So it's unlikely.
Among the other entries -
X-Men? Marvel's an American company, so... /smh
I find it amusing that Blackadder and the new king are being celebrated in the same month. Hopefully that's just a coincidence...

X-Men maybe because of Sir Patrick Stewart, idk.

The justification for the Transformers set was the massive contribution that UK creatives - Furman and Wildman, mainly - made to the series. Given that Claremont is technically British-American, I'm guessing that's the reason for the X-Men set as well.

The Marvel set I own was illustrated by the British artist Alan Davis who leapt across to US comics after cutting his teeth on 2000AD stories like Harry Twenty On The High Rock and the D.R. and Quinch escapades. His work with the rebooted Captain Britain is some of my favourite Marvel art.
I remember the Star Trek collection causing a bit of a stir from Trek fans. Why is Bashir there, not Worf? Why Malcolm Reed rather than Tucker? They missed the point that the collection was the Captains (Kirk, Sisko, Janeway and so on) plus British actors hence Marina Sirtis, Siddiq el Fadil et al.
On a plus point, by putting The Trooper art on stamps, my Praetorians will now have a fine range of adhesive banners. No more need to use my colour printer!

Really disappointed at those. I didn't expect them to just be photos of random squads of miniatures.

I can't put my finger on why, but these feel fake as hell...
The 0s in 40.000 have diagonal lines inside, which GW usually does not do, the AOS texts have something weird going on with them and look like they change size, and the TOW text on the dwarfs looks misaligned, although that may be due to the background. It's either something like the cardboard backing being bent as hell combined with the protective foil, but something is very weird about all of this.
Also: upper right corner: Pack. No. 69? Really?

They seem pretty in-line with the other special stamps on the Royal Mail site to me.
Just seems like such a shame how out of all the things they could have done, it turns out to be generic images of random squads. Using iconic art pieces like the 2nd and 3rd edition 40k box set covers or the classic Grombrindal Art would have been wonderful, but to me this just seems lazy and boring.

God those are horribly generic and bland aren't they? I've been gearing up to buy this set all year and if that's legitimately all they are, that's a hard pass.
40th anniversary set, celebrating a massively successful British company with a long history and a great legacy of creativity and it's...buncha pics of currently available models. No classic, memorable artwork that would have looked amazing. Well I guess the money saved up for the £100+ set can go to something else now.

It would have been so easy to score on this - do the classic covers of 'breakthrough' products: WHFB 5th edition, The last stand of the Crimson Fists, Epic 40k, Dark Millenium, That one BFG art everyone knows, Grombrindal and you're good to go. Sprinkle in some more if you have to, but the solid basis would be there. Automatically Appended Next Post: There is at least one other set here, and they look much better:

Those artwork ones are definitely better, much more the sort of thing I expected. Still a big disappointment photos of random models was chosen as the priority.

GW will no doubt have seen this as a sales opportunity, and using painted models is better to show off their products.
The one thing that surprises me is the fact they've put the word 'slave' on the stamp. I'm sure it will trigger a Karen somewhere to complain.

Wow, not really interested in any of those. Saw the title of this thread and started thinking of who I might ask to send me a set. Now I will not be bothering.
I think I generally look at Stamps for history and such. Whereas these are contemporary and also not terribly compelling visually.

Well, since Games Workshop is primarily a miniatures company, that would naturally be the product they showcase. All the other art is just there to sell miniatures, after all. Celebrating a British company should at least show off their product, not just the packaging.
