I did some maths in relation to median income in the HH n&r thread. Basically they are nearly as shafted price wise as the Rest of the world category whilest earning compared to me in median about 1/3 -1/2 half the money.
Basically they get 2 $ Cheaper acess to models than the worst possible category from GW FW:

If you view the box of 8 as a Plague Marine box (with fixed loadouts) plus a Plaguecaster, it doesn't appear a terrible deal - I'm not sure whether I'm going to get a box, as I got one when they were released without the Plaguecaster.
In theory, though, they should help add variety to Plague Marine squads if scattered amongst them.

It is "cheap" compared to the current Plague Marine prices:
7 for £35.
3 for £27.50 (direct only)
1 for £19 (champion)
1 for £19 (icon bearer)
1 for 1/3rd of £42.50 (marine in the chosen trio)
7 for 7/8ths of £40 is a solid price.
There are 7 in the Combat Patrol and there did used to be 3 Easy to Build Plague Marines and some of the basic Plague Marines were available cheaper in the 8th edition starter and the first magazine.
But, compared to 10 Marines for £37.50~£40.00 in quite a few other factions they are a little "expensive" so I can see where that other poster was coming from.
But the alternative plaguecaster sculpt really improves the price on that 8 for £40 option.

Oh awesome - Pain Tokens are finally back.
So what can we do with them?
- Reroll Advance or Charge rolls.
- Reroll hit rolls.
Sigh. That's really it? That's all they could come up with?
Also, the detachment ability adds absolutely nothing and for any other army it would be included as part of the Pain Token ability. But then GW would have to think of a second army rule and no one in the office cared enough for that.
Also, no charging out of Venoms even though models are literally clinging to the sides waiting to leap off into battle. Now the Taurox, that's a proper assault vehicle.
Venoms have lost their invulnerable save, lost their -1 to hit, and the only compensation is 1pt of toughness. Guess they're just flying coffins now. Especially since their firepower is still laughably bad.
Speaking of laughably bad, what exactly is the Blaster supposed to be for? d6+1 damage seems overkill against Marines, Terminators have 4++ saves now, and vehicles are going to laugh at S8.
Also, I love how they put the spotlight on an ""Anti--Vehicle"" weapon that can expect to do maybe 1 wound to a Rhino on average.
So all in all I was exactly right to expect nothing but disappointment from Dark Eldar.

Except you could already do that with Poison Tongue. And no one did.
Because even wounding on 3+, spamming weapons with no AP, D1, and no special rules to improve either is a losing prospect.

My first impression is that splinter weapons are... surprisingly good now? Anti-infantry 3+, Assault and 2 shots at full range finally feels like splinter rifles are the "hammer" part of the "glass hammer". And it seems that we might get a faction-wide 6++ to represent our former 1st turn PfP bonus. Not bad.
The faction and detachments abilities are quite interesting, but I need some more time and a cooler head to process them.

Well there is a strat that uses a pain token. It is a very basic turn 1 token into 3 units empowered, but it is likely that they will get more strats that use tokens.

Power from pain is OK I guess, although I prefer the turn escalation effects personally.
The detachment rule is horribly bad and feels like they missed a second part of the rule out.
The venom got nerfed a little. Still -1 to hit, but only a 6+ invuln (which kabalites also get, so I guess that part of PfP built in.
No wych spotlight but they may get a rule to charge from a transport after it moved, while kabalites go round clearing objectives.
Splinter is actually decent(ish). Monsters don’t care though .
Until I see more of the wych cult I won’t be able to formulate a solid opinion.

As Vipoid said its just awful.
I realise being in the "wait and see" for other factions, I should be for my own - but this just looks incredibly boring and I don't see how that can be fixed.
Didn't really want pain tokens back - and certainly didn't want them back like this. Absolutely didn't want a detachment rule which amounted to "you can have up to 3 more pain tokens if you bring along all 3 types of character".

It's clearly how they are referencing the real space raid specifically.
When the codex comes out with more detachment types, you'll see ones that reward only taking a cult, coven or cabal

Sure, but this is it for probably at least a year (they’re not on the map yet), which is pretty weak. That’s one of my early gripes so far. If you don’t really dig the detachment type (doesn’t really fit theme of your army), you’re going to be waiting a long time for choice (for many factions), which really sucks if you’re in the “end of an edition” category.
