Their special ability lets them fire back against anyone who attacks them and makes their guns Pistols while they do so.
If you resolve close combat attacks against them then they immediately get to fire back against you as Pistols can be fired into combat (with no loss of BS).
What's hilarious is wraithguard can shoot a unit, charge a different unit, and then when that unit hits them back shoot that unit, too. Very dangerous unit.

It's time
...there are a variety of pre-order bonuses available, depending on where you get your copy. If you order via the Games Workshop webstore, you’ll receive a set of two double-sided gaming boards with a total playable area of 30” x 44”. Purchase your set from a Warhammer store, you’ll get a set of 36 acrylic tokens, which includes six 40mm round objective markers, 10 battleshock tokens, and 20 wound tokens, in a stylish tin sporting the Leviathan logo.
Order from an independent Warhammer stockist and you’ll receive either a set of 28 double-sided deployment zone markers, or a Warhammer 40,000 branded neoprene dice tray featuring artwork of a Terminator helmet lens reflecting a Tyranid face. Speak to your local store to find out more.
Also that datasheet rumour seems accurate:
Over on the Warhammer Community page, we’ll continue our coverage of the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 by sharing all the Tyranid and Space Marine datasheets from Leviathan and their Indexes, revealing a new miniature, and bringing you loads of great articles.

It's cerainly possible that it'll just be the collector's miniature of Seargant Whocarius from the tie-in novel to 'build Leviathan hype', but they literally said they were revealing a new miniature that was Leviathan-related. There's not too many options there, other than it being Marines or Tyranids, and the Tyranids are both the first codex on the WHFest timeline and have that Emissary appear in art and stories, makes sense that that's the next one they'll show. Anyway, we wont have to wait long.

You burn through 1 or 2 at best. Use a Farseer to guarantee than 6 you need. Guardians replenishing. Not an issue.
Scythes are useless is comparison to wraithcannon.

On the other hand, if they show off a Cool New Giant Space Bug that's coming later in the year it might encourage more people to pick up Leviathan and start a Tyranid army.
Probably depends how likely they think it is to leak, like that Necron photo in 9E.

So it seems there's no made to order pre-order promise with the new Leviathan box. I predict some tears next weekend...
I collect Tyranids but I don't see much point in getting this box, at least for me. I'm not a big fan of the new sculpts (I love using Screamer Killers but I think the current Carnifexes with no guns make a much better Screamer Killer than the new sculpt). Hopefully the models I already have in my Tyranid army will make a viable army in 10th edition.

Depends. GW didn't have any preorder problem with the last AoS set, and I'm pretty sure the issues with the last 40K edition were a joint mix of GW being shut down for so long prior to the release and the massive uptick in sales that they had at the time. Both of which were not planned for.
So I figure GW should be ok on stock. The worst thing might be if 3rd party stores can't get enough or get told they'll get X and then get slashed to less.
That said even if you miss out the scalpers and people selling half of their set that they don't want will easily make it possible to pick things up. Even before Indomitus was given its 2nd print run you could easily grab the models for a good price off ebay.
Heck I'm debating potentially grabbing more gaunts and such for the Tyranids

I can see some folks being annoyed if scalpers grab a bunch of the LE novels.
I won’t try ordering until at least a couple of hours after they go on sale as I don’t see the point in sitting in a queue for it.

It bodes poorly that the DG packs that went up this weekend were gone in under 10 minutes in the US, before the 'Saturday preorders' article was even live on the frontpage of WarCom (but was accessible via facebook).
The different preorder bonus might shuffle some demand around, however.

Valrak said (on a livestream, which is not visible to non-members after he is done streaming, so i can neither re-check it nor link it) that they have 32 shipping containers of Leviathan boxes for the US market alone, which seems like... many. Back of the envelope, that's 640 pallets at least, each with ~ 300 boxes each, so we're looking at close to 200.000 boxes.

Sure, plenty of examples of this happening lately. I didn't realise how bad it was until I had my heart set on a Kill Team Ashes of Faith box. Luckily I refreshed the GW webstore a few minutes before it was due to go on sale and managed to get one before it sold out. By 10:02am (2 minutes after it was actually supposed to go on sale) it had already sold out. Once I saw it had sold out I (out of curiosity) went on Ebay and saw that people were already selling the box there for at least double the retail price.
By all accounts other regions (e.g. the US and Australia) sold out even quicker than the UK did.
I'm sure GW will have made a lot more stock for a new 10th edition 40K release box, though I still wouldn't be surprised if it's gone in a matter of minutes. Annoyingly a lot of that will be down to the scalpers, not people who actually want the box for themselves.

The last killteams and the Deathguard this weekend sold out so fast that its probably due to very limited stocks since the new edition is here and has priority.
So I expect the new box set to have plenty of stock to go around.
Either way good luck to the people interested next weekend.

Just looking at the data sheets and most of the rules are simply arbitrary. I don’t see how this is simplifying the game if I have to ask my opponent what the special rule is of every unit I encounter to avoid “gotcha” moments.
I don't know how many unique datasheets will be typical each game, but I feel like it will be fairly straight forward to look them over pretty quickly. Like trade cards during deployment and look them over between drops. At some point you'll institutionalize the information. There are also enough that are quite common like sticky objectives that simplifies it - codexes notwithstanding.

Not really. The Avatar is probably the most beastly unit seen so far. He can grab Fortune from a Farseer for -1 to wound. That same Farseer can spike him a 6 on his Fate Die to grant a 6 so he then has D3+1 S16 AP4 D6+2 shots.
He also halves the damage characteristic so the mortal wounds that the harpoon will produce will at most be 6.
EDIT: This seems like it is not correct since he halves when allocated and allocate happens after the wound roll, which has already turned it into mortal wounds.

God-fragment trumps elevated mortal? Even if the mortal was nearly immortal already…. The literally-solid-iron-body thing probably doesn’t hurt either.
Either way, it’s nice to see ol’ ironface being combat viable again. I was slightly confused by the ranged attack of the Wailing Doom being stronger than the strike mode of its melee attacks but then it’s only the one shot.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

My FLGS has had its quota pre-pre ordered by customers for over a month and we have already worked out who is trading what to whom.

1 box per customer to get it out to as many people as the owner can.
