I imagine it's all part of the push to not have identifiable people in front of the camera in case they get too big for their boots and leave to do YouTube instead.
I'm quite surprised Wade is still allowed to not wear a balaclava or something tbh.
I honestly don't think they care if people leave, they're leaving for freedom/salary, if GW was bothered enough they'd pay better.

I'm not a 40K guy, but had considered getting in with new edition box...
I must just not have the right tastes for 40K. I found the designs of the minis very juvenile.
The Barbgaunts are an absolute mess visually. Maybe the color scheme? Very hard for my eye to discern what is going on.
The Von Ryan's leapers faces are terrible. They just look like a gaunt is halfway through eating a crab and octopus sandwich or something.
The neurogaunts are ok. The Neurotyrant looks great.
On the tabletop photo, I find the space marine varieties hard to tell apart. I generally dislike miniatures with big hanging cloth that fills the space between their legs and the Sternguard are no exception. It just makes it harder for the eye to discern what it is looking at.
Terminators look great. The infernus squad is very boring visually and a strange choice. The dred looks cool. So does the librarian.
Overall, just not a box for me.

It's refreshing to see someone that recognises that and didn't immediately lap it all up. The Screamer-Killer in particular is pathetic - it looks like a sad, balding Predator.

The screamer killer is a nice nostalgic nod to the original with the modern aesthetic mixed in. There is a predator vibe there but there should be! GW tickle the nostalgias very well for us oldies at the minute. For you it’s pathetic but to me it remind me of painting that half pound of lead when I was 12.

What’s bizarre is that the shooty dread seems to have less guns than the assault dread. Of the 2, it would make way more sense to have the AA guns on the shooty dread and left the brutalis without. GW make really strange decisions sometimes.

The SK is the one mini in the box I have a problem with. It’s in the uncanny valley of having enough callbacks to the the nostalgic sculpt, but also trying to fit in with the modern aesthetics. IMHO it falls short of either, looking out of place alongside the new guys, but not punching enough of the retro buttons to fire that desire.
It’s a moot point for me, as I play both factions in the box and love the bulk of the minis. I’m going to get and paint him anyway. But if I was buying stuff ala carte, he’d get skipped.

The barbgaunts look very very "easybuild plastic" in a way the rest of the set has managed to avoid. They should be broader like the hiveguard. I like everything else in the set. Infernus squad is a good choice for the tyrannic war storyline, what could be better when facing a swarm than ten flamethrowers?

And I’m happy for this. Less is more. I’m not a big fan of the “GUNS GUNS GUNS EVERYWHERE” primaris vehicle aesthetic. Or stubbers on marines. So I’m quite happy with this step backwards towards the classic look and loadout.
It’s not that this dread has too few guns, but the brutalis one has too many. But you are not wrong that an AA mount up top would make a lot of sense on the shooty version.

Perhaps these are just the options on the pushfit version and there will be a multipart kit later with a wider range of weapons

It would be interesting to see. And if they did, what would be included? From a SKU PoV, they could just add a TLLC/ ML upgrade arm sprue into the normal redemptor box. Just so they don’t have 3 seperate kits sitting on the shelf. That way we could get the plasma gun on our shooty dread, or pair a CC option with the LC.
If they did make a full fire support dread kit, what other options could they add? Needs to be more than the pushfit to generate sales. The basic kit has the gatling and the plasma. Pushfit has the LCs. Autocannons? Alternates for the ML arm. The classic here would be TLAC.
There are a lot of ways GW could go here. Time will tell.

Something more cawlish could be interesting for a shooty dread, to distinguish from vintage boxdreads. A neo-volkite scourger, or a larger Graviton weapon.

I almost included that thought in my post, but felt I was getting to wishlisty and off topic as it was. But yes, a psudo-30k “new” reintroduction of Cawltech! ( tm) would be entirely in character both in-universe and from a GW marketing POV.
Not going to lie, I’d buy a neo-volkite redemptor in a heartbeat.

Weird isn’t it, it’s probably the only model in the nid side I like, except the basic Gaunts are good I suppose but nothing new. Don’t play nids so it’s not an issue but used to back in second and loved paint the screamer killer.

I'm no longer invested in 40k in any way, but I feel like the new Primaris Sternguard should have been the way GW remade the entire Space Marine line. The Primaris unit: (Also, does that one model just have a regular bolter? Is that a thing Primaris can take now?) The original unit: Instead of the utter messy sprawl of the current Space Marine selection, GW should have just made Primarised versions of Space Marine units (Primaris Tacticals, Primaris Assault, Primaris Devastators), instead of copying the Sigmarines' "let's have a new unit for every single new release" style.

I can’t tell if it’s the pics or the paint job or the model but they look “weird”, like the proportions are all off and the shapes are all merging and not defined. Might be different in person for me, but from that pic the just look like a mess or tyranid shapes.

Just a PSA... The 10th edition demo games at Warhammer-Fest are not what we would have hoped for. They are as watered down and basic as an in-store demo game - Core rules for Move > Shoot > Melee only using a few of the basic units from the 10th launch box only. Sadly, it seems, we will not learn much more than what we already know from posted WarCom articles. Fethin' weaksauce.

I felt the same at first, but it's mostly because they're idiots and mostly showing them from one side and one angle, so it takes a while for it to 'click' in your mind - once you understand what you're seeing, they're alright. Not great, and with repetitive posing, but alright.
They have a weird bodyplan: three legs, two arms one one side are doing their thing with the gun, and then there's one vestigial arm on the other side just limply hanging around.

I get a similar vibe from these pics, with details on some of the Tyranids looking a bit 'muddy'. I'm fairly confident this is due to the new style of paint. There's far more blended areas on these than older studio models, with the two main colours far less distinct.

It's also because the two new gaunt types are both actually two beings melded together - the Neurogaunts have some sort of larva/worm stuck to their backs, and the Barbgaunt text mentions their gun being a 'organism that enslaved the gaunt' - the picture above also shows some weird brain-blob with the blue paintjob that seems to signify psychic/synaptic activity this time around boring itself into the gaunt's head.

The primaris Marines are Primaris marines, but man I loath the sternguard kit and everything it represents. Like, so much of how sternguard as a kit and a rules entity is antithetical to Primaris and modern GW kit design. Currently, the sternguard can use every man-portable gun in the firstborn have.
You do realize that just letting the unit use whatever guns is the exception, not the rule, to how GW writes now, right?

The barbgaunts have an awkward three-legged dog thing going on, and their weapon arrangement doesn't fit very well into the previously-established visual language for Tyranids (ie. stuff like Exocrines or Biovores having their big weapon parasite central and dorsal, or stuff like Hive Guard lugging it around like a rifle). They're also jumbling up the mostly-separated "psychic" and "artillery" vibes by featuring both the psyker-steroids-brain and a big ass gun.
I think they would have been a lot better with four limbs touching the ground and only one limb integrated into the "rocket launcher". And get that cranium outta here.

No too excited about the nids tbh. The Winged Tyranid Prime, leapers and termagaunts seem like the best of the bunch to me, but the rest is weird. It's a bummer, too, because in concept I really like the idea of more convoluted bio constructs that don't map easily on the body plans we are used to seeing as humans, but these just don't work for some reason.
The barbgaunts are probably the worst in terms of design, but the neuro gaunts are not stellar either, nor do I particularly care about the psychophage or the SC.
The Neurotyrant is somewhere in the middle. I really like the design, but I'd probably need to do some converting here and there to make it my own.

Call me old but I'll miss the old Sternguards, since the new ones are not given a new name/have primaris in their name, I assume the old ones would be superseded.
I think it might be a bit 'underdone' with the decorations? If I want to tune things down a bit, I can always use bits from Tac/Intercessors to make them 'clean'. If I buy Sternguards, I want those lovely overthetop details. Old Sternguard don't exactly look perfect but they are a great souce for kitbashing. Now with the new ones replacing them, guess I'll have to go for other sources.
Dread it's bit of off, legs too obvious, but I think it's just cuz I haven't got used to it. It should grow on me, all dreads tend to.
No comment on nids.

Surprisingly I'm rather bored with the SM side of this box.
Slightly bigger versions of Terminators we already have. Primaris Sternguard (yawn). Flamer Intercessors (Flamer Aggressors exist and have power fists). The only things that interest me are the Redemptor and Gravis Apothecary..
Meanwhile, on the Nid side, we get a flying Tyranid Prime (which really makes me hopeful that we'll get new Shrikes), synaptic bodyguards, mini-Lictors, refreshed Gaunts. Not all of them are winners (Screamer Killer...I prefer the Carnifex version), but it seems like the design team was a lot more inspired on the Tyranid side.
Don't get me wrong, I don't HATE any of it, but the 9th launch box was a lot more exciting in so many ways for me.

The Barbgaunts are growing on me, as I’m seeing them as kind of ants infected with Cordyceps, rather than something initially bred that way. Like the Hive Mind takes some regular Termagants, and “infects” them with the parasite weapon, which then alters its host’s body to better support its bulk.
Only head canon of course.

What I like about the Space Marine side of the box is that the new units seem to be there to replace the old ones and not an expansion of an existing range. Nobody in this universe or the next needs 100+ units in their roster.
