Well, here's my submission for this month.
Two marines who both agree that not even in death does duty end.

Interestingly the 'Tron' style dreadnough was edge-highlighted with acrylic pens. I may use a thinner pen in future, but it was fairly quick to do!
I haven't done much painting at all in the last few years (basically Round 99 of this challenge), and definitely enjoying trying out new painting methods.

On a related note I'm going to be painting up an army loosely based around one of these colour schemes. Opinions on which colour scheme is better would be gratefully received!

Partial to TRON, myself. Nice work!

First, great work! I like them both. They are wildly different paint styles. Polar opposites.

The TRON dread is extreme highlights. The Red one is a fairly smooth transition, where the overall glow from the base washes out almost all the details.

I’d like to see Red with some details picked out to catch the eye. Right now the gaze just seems to drift over him with no place to “catch” Where is the focal point? Where should I look? Where is the points of interest?

You have one that is more realistic, but (for lack of a better work) boring. It does not catch the eye. The other is ALL points of interest. Extreme hyper highlights, turned up to 11. Doesn’t look real, but does look interesting.

If you were to do an army, I’d go with the TRON one. I like the red guy, but like actual camouflage, it might be well done and “real”, but that does not necessarily translate into a good looking army of miniatures. I think if you expanded that out into a full army, they might look good and cohesive, but you would have trouble telling units apart and what they are equipped with.

Man, between the heat/humidity these days and my burnout following the 100th Challenge, I might have to sit this one out. The only thing I've been painting likely doesn't fit the theme.

I really screwed up on trying to make my two lazguns (on the deff) look good -_- had to start over.. (added too many colors and wasted like an hour of time)

Anyway, going to paint the dwarfs for on the base a bit before returning to the detail phase on the deff.
Kurg himself is done and glued into the hatch and also made gun1 have better camo on the grey parts and lined em. (I normally hardly ever line but wanted to make this particular entry pop so much that noone could possibly ignore it.)

I'm a bit tired now though, maybe taking a day off from painting first.

Thanks for the helpful feedback!

It's definitely reassuring to hear that the Tron version isn't "too much" for a tabletop army. To be honest I was a little concerned that the red one was too *high* constrast for a model, nevermind the Tron one.
Your feedback indicates I've got a lot of room to "play" with here. Thinking of new models and new blends with stronger colours atm.

Your point about Red's base is definitely a good one. I think for future models like that I'd have a more focused light source. That should help pick out features of the model more, and provide more constrast between the base and the model.
Similarly, your idea about models wanting a focal point is both fairly new to me, and very relevant. I've got some thoughts on that, but will need some time to think.

With your and youwashock's feedback, definitely thinking in terms of a Tron style base colour scheme. Likely will be major variations from unit to unit, but that's part of the fun.

Love the old Tyranids. Great to see an old metal Dreadnought/Wraithlord.

Primed and ready for paint.

Thanks for taking on that monumental task, MG!

As the summer gets hotter, I find myself slowing down. Here are a couple of almost-finished Oldhammer skeletons for the Challenge:

For the weapons, I'm trying to make them look rusty, but with the corrosion worn off on the cutting edges, implying recent use. It works better on the sworn than on the scythe. The shield need some wear and tear, as well.

Now showing skeletons for Mantic's Dungeon Saga!

Painting total as of 12 July 2025: 88 plus a Deva King statue

Painting total as of 12/31/2024: 107 plus a set of modular spaceship terrain and two walkers and a quad mech and five giants

For Renewal I've got these lovely little Goblins! These are for my D&D campaign. They represent the Tothsporid, creatures of the Underdark that have become puppets of a fungal evil that plagues a local Dwarven kingdom.

So I was going to do Venetian Vampires as nothing says Renewal like fresh blood, right? Plus I failed to even start the Vampire Queen last month However, I totally forgot to take a pre-photo, got excited now I'm back from my holidays and started painting - hope this'll do (there is actually a primed proof pic in my gallery, but it's dated mid June).

It’s fine. I reuse old proof pictures myself most of the time. My hobby progress is an open book anyway in my blog.

Be excited, have fun. Paint.

Cheers chief. I was originally planning on doing some mutant outlaws for Brimstone but I'm just not feeling it. My son reckons it's because I'm so hacked off with Flying Frog and yet another dreadful KS. These, on the other hand, I'm proper excited for.

The lad with the missing axe gets whatever was in the bit box.
Also, trying the triangle cutoffs (wood block) paint handles. Pretty good.

Gathered drying lavenders from the backyard, wanted to see if this material will work for the bases.

Done! Presenting, the Malachite Slayers!

Steady progress:

As ever, I'll pick 5. Aside from the guzzling vampire queen, the top row are more citizenry so won't be in the mix for this, but are part of the paint push.

I have a slight of time to say that I love how these turned out, as if you can just get them off the shelve in a toystore.
Fantastic grain on the axes aswell!

Anyway, small change of plans.. my base is not big enough to house all my Dwarf victims so I hope you dwarf-offers accept me just using a single Dwarf victim? atleast then its easier to see its details. I'll save the others for future challenge projects, I promise.
