except the first I agree, and the first would be if not for the paint inflating the value - have a separate starter paint set, the actual models though works just fine

Yeah, the starter paint sets GW were making till now (4-8 paints plus 3-5 minis for chosen faction) were working so well I wonder why they replaced them with such a half assed effort that ruined the point of both kinds of starters it replaced

They look like pretty good starter sets, I reckon.

They are garbage. 'Small' set is packaged with so much random overpriced junk I wouldn't be surprised if it cost close to the cost of 'medium' set unless GW goes heavily into loss leader direction (haha, no). All that for a unit that is really not appealing to anyone except maybe for fluff fanatics playing Salamanders, especially for the horrendous price they will ask for it. 'Medium' doesn't even give you legal combat patrols which is kind of dick move seeing it's deliberate withholding of just 1 small sprue per side and the big one will probably cost ~ the same as Leviathan replacing multiple big, nice, expensive centrepiece models with cheap ruins and limited edition huge hardcover with soft booklet. Yeah, no

Not only were the past starters much more appealing for new and old players alike due to much better selection of units and value inside (hell, I bought two 'small' 9th edition starters just to convert spare LTs into other characters/make primaris vanvets/running hellblasters out of intercessors), but the 8th edition 40K and 2nd edition Sigmar 'medium' boxes had an absolute mountain of minis compared to this junk, for most likely half the price. I don't know why anyone would bother with this 'small' set unless you really need the tools/paints. The price kills the appeal of flamer SM even as a conversion fodder bodies and besides, the unit is just doesn't look good, one dude randomly running/stumbling when the other four have braced stances just looks silly (and even from a gameplay perspective, this unit sucks, usual GW rule writer clown still apparently thinks primaris unit walking into a touching distance to enemy doesn't need melee weapons even on a sarge ). No fancy character models for spare projects either. Trash

Probably why it's done that way. It keeps the Starters from being as appealing to those who make $$$$ from box-splitting.

LOLno. GW paints and tools have such big premium on them that splitters will profit even dumping them with a big discount. Unless the price is absolutely atrocious, it's still worthwhile for resellers. The only customers hurt with this gak selections are new players who could buy 2x 'small' starter in past editions, ending up with 2 troops and 2 characters/500 pts in two armies to start (and these two sets probably cost similar amount to a single new starter, too...). Now? Two sets equal less than 200 pts and have dupes of tools and paints they have no use for. Ditto with appeal for old players (see my impulse buy above), none now, these types have all the tools already and probably use other paint brands now, too. So, wrong, funnily enough, splitters will probably be main group buying this junk

I should have been all over these being a Terminators & Tyranids fan, but...ummm...naaaaaaah. Not sure.

Most balanced introductory set ever.

The introductory set will almost certainly not play like actual 10th. I reckon it will be similar to the 4th starter Battle for Maccragge, where a model would make up a unit of their own. So in essence, it will play more like Kill Team 2019.

Introductory set seems to be more hobby orientated since it has a mix of tools and paints.
Its the type of thing you would give to someone not yet sure if he would enjoy this hobby, giving him a taster and a handful of minis to try out.

small set needs to drop the paints to lower the price, the other two are probably ok

I agree, I would not splash £40 just to try out and see how it goes. It's not impulse buy.

Barbs if snap fit should drop a bit too.

when the one with the death guard in it was ~£25 I got two for the neighbours kids as a birthday present thing, aged IIRC 7 & 9, they loved them, at that prices I'd not buy one never mind two, as you say no longer an impulse "why not?" kind of thing

Starter set (middle) is a steal really if you are looking for models, and terminators specifically.

Introductory is garbage for the price, it needs more paints, or at least a character for each faction.

The ultimate starter set is okay in terms of value, but mainly because the Librarian, barbogaunts and the terrain are so overpriced if bought separately.

Ok, so Barbgaunts aren't AUD$70 per box like I expected. They're AUD$59.

For 5 mono-pose 2D-posed models. Cool.

Cannot justify getting 5 more since original 5 monoposes are soooo similar. Will pass on that but yeah prices seem to be going silly ridiculous for the new nids. XD

I managed to get both the Barbgaunts and Neurogaunts for £20 with delivery. I won’t ever use more than 2 units of either most likely, because of the poses like you say and I just don’t like loads of duplication anyway in lists (I mean also I’ve not played since about 7th edition), so that should be me set for them now.

Hmm. Guess Barbgaunts confirmed to be a one weapon wonder.

Which given their usefulness I’m not mad about it. But perhaps a smidge disappointed, particularly as I’m a fan of them blurring the line between Small and Medium Bugs.

Thats a good deal for sure. Tempted for the Neurogaunts just because I really like the models.

Not sure what to say about the new Barbs just being repackaged snap fits and if that is actually going to be the curse for the new nid releases.

I can get on board with swarm like units but 5 medium sized models?
