In the Latest Update Flying Frog Productions previewed their new kickstarter campaign. New otherworlds include the much-anticipated Hell Train, pulp era Egyptian Tombs and a sunken Atlantis-like city full of slumbering vampires. Campaign starts sometime next week.

Update: it is live and funded!

HELL TRAIN!

Only managed to finish painting up all the first campaign's stuff a year or two ago, and msot of it just sits in boxes, the number of games I've played countable on one hand, and the percentage of models I've used probably single digits...

Do we know if they have EU distribution?

How are their recent miniatures? Assembly and detail.

I had a horrible experience with the first printings of their first two sets. I'm sure the miniatures have gotten better. TIA!

Current stuff is really nice in hard plastic.
Agree that the original starter box figures were very soft on detail but their replacement updates are much nicer

I don’t think they’ve said anything about that yet? So far they are just announcing the campaign. I’m not entirely sure yet that all the minis will be plastic and not SioCast or something.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out to be a mix of materials but all the thermoplastics I've gotten from FFG have been amazing so their inclusion wouldn't bother me at all.

The only thermoplastics I’ve got are the Trederrans, and they’re nice. They’re not as fun to assemble, especially for a kitbasher who likes to vary the poses and gear of the minis, but they are well detailed.

SOB is still our main game. We were playing a campaign through the Forest of the Dead when life got in the way. However, as soon as the Adventures campaign kits arrive, we’ll likely drop the Forest campaign and start those. I’m hoping the Trederran strike team and tank are in phase 1.

The strike team and tank are phase 1, only the monarch pack is a later phase.

Yeah, while I grabbed the samurai stuff, I was strong enough to resist the Norse/Conquistador themes. I can similarly happily overlook these two new settings but that goldurn HELL TRAIN is just too tempting!

Still waiting on mine..

The issue I have is the damn wait. 5 or 6 years for a conclusion to a project, all the while they are shilling everything BUT the project doesn't give you the confidence. Then, you try to get ahold of someone over there, and don't get any help, They need to work on the confidence.

Damn good game, Crap Company values.

As much as I want to be a completionist, It's hard to keep putting myself through this hurry up and wait for years on end KS stuff.

I still have a batch of the Forbidden Fortress to deal with, to tide me over, along with the incoming stuff.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. I got really interested because of the 1930's mummy's-tomb-pulp, so I clicked the link. Am I reading right that they're just now shipping the last campaign which funded in 2019?

Yep. 4 years for this campaign (wave1!), most likely due to the pandemic. Earlier campaigns have wave 1 shipping much earlier…like 2 years, maybe 1? I don’t think they’ve ever finished all three waves in under 4 years.

As mentioned, the pandemic really pushed wave 1 back but they have moved a lot of wave 2 into the first wave so there is little outstanding except for one expansion and extra content added for sale during the pledge manager.

You should probably add a year to the estimated delivery date on Kickstarter as they will likely still be on slower side but they are reliable and you will get a lot of content for the price.

Yeah, gonna nope out on this, then.

That’s fair.

I missed out on the first one and pledged low on the second, and because we play this game so much I ended up paying way more for stuff at retail. So, I’m pledging for at least the Egypt stuff, then maybe embiggening my pledge in the manager phase if my family seem interested in the hell train.

For those who are interested, the preview page is up on Kickstarter, so you can follow and get notified when it goes live.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1034852783/shadows-of-brimstone-lost-tombs-and-the-hell-train?ref=discovery

Though that may be kind of a moot point, as it's apparently going live today. No word on the exact time yet, barring any major snags 'within the next 12 hours' seems likely.

I've seen chatter on the FB community for the game that during one of the livestreams for Roll to Move (their annual online game event) that this one, like Adventures before it, will be a fairly short campaign, maybe 2 weeks or so.

Yes, Adventures is finally arriving, and as someone who just recently got to play with the Viking heroes for the first time, it's a blast. I can't wait for my Warlord pledge to arrive, even while respecting that I haven't 100% finished painting the original release content, and have barely started on the FoFo stuff.

And yet, here we are.

This is my excuse:

The great thing about boardgames is that you don’t have to paint them. No one cares if you didn’t paint your Monopoly pieces or your Risk pieces. Just don’t play with tabletop wargamers and you’re good.

Since I run games online (for friends and volunteering for the FFP crew occasionally), I have a bit of a vested interest in at least a table top level of detail. None of them will win awards, but with contrast paints at least the process has been sped up considerably.

Will $1 give me access to the PM?

On the fence (as usual), since I already have a variety of Egyptian and Western models. TIA.

I believe the $25 tier explicitly notes PM access.

Of course, this is a KS, so you’re not charged until the campaign ends, and I believe all of their previous campaigns allowed for becoming a late backer, so options should exist here too.

Also, we’ve already broken 500k!

It certainly is funding well. Seems like a lot of stretch goal content is going into the $290 pledge level... I dunno. Both the new starter sets look very on point for theme and coolness factor, but I'd really just prefer to buy one and the pot will have to get significantly sweeter for the $120 pledge levels before I'm sold.

Made in us
Legendary Master of the Chapter

SoCal

Yeah, I’m most likely going to have to wait for the pledge manager, and by then I hope the $120 level is worth it. Right now it seems like 90% of the Egyptian stretch goals are only going to the $290 pledge. A great deal, if one can afford it, but a bit of a bitter pill if one can’t.

Getting my previous KS pledge, literally an hour ago, makes me strangely less likely to get the new one.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE SoB and it is the true successor to Warhammer Quest, but it is already soooooooo unwieldy to get on the table. We own all of it, and if you even remotely try to combine the games you end up needing a wealth of card-sorters, etc... before you can even conceive of starting a game. Even then the table space consumed is nightmare fuel.

I love it, but adding another pile to our three massive piles feels like a weird choice, especially considering Flying Frog's tradition of multiple YEARS worth of delays. :-p

All my card decks sit in the game boxes, and all the models are packed up next to them in carry cases, with the biggest models sitting on a shelf. This game somehow takes up WAY more space after you've unpacked and assembled it!

We have stackable, carryable containers for the minis, with all the cards and stuff ‘consolidated’ into the core boxes and big expansion boxes. It is a bear to switch between otherworlds mid game or even in between games.

We’ve taken to starting new characters more often just to clear out a lot of the bookkeeping, and also because many otherworlds lose some entertainment value once your characters are already well-equipped. This is especially the case for the Blasted Wastes.

Damnit, those Pharaoh-level bonuses got me to go all-in. Might try to shuck off thr Egyptian stuff to someone else to recoup some of that expense!

In a few years.

If anyone can post the miniature totals towards the end of the campaign, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!
