Yeah definitely looking forward to it, they did a great job with the first season. I was surprised to see it isn't until November (thought they would try to tie in the release closer to Halloween) for when the new season starts, but it's one of the few Western superhero animated shows that's good right now. Also, I think they've released an Atom Eve standalone origin story, haven't watched it yet, but the clips look alright so far.

Indeed, I am looking forward to it.

As for the Atom Eve prequel, I'd say it was pretty good.

Nice.

Season 1 was a pleasant surprise, despite me having been jaded with superhero stuff for the past few years.

In typical fashion, I think the books are better, but I did enjoy season 1 despite the changes and the recent Atom Eve special, so I’m definitely down for season 2.

I don't follow the books at all, so I got to enjoy Season 1 purely as its own thing and I enjoyed its twists and turns. The Atom Eve special was good solid fun and set a nice tone - I'm ready for more!

The main difference is the comic doesn’t come right out and tell you he’s secretly evil right away. When the not-Justice League is taken out it happens so fast you don’t see who did it, it’s not the fight that the show portrays. There’s no not-Hellboy detective investigating him. He loses his powers when he’s sent to the other dimension and it trapped there for… 20 years? from his perspective, a week in our time, and instead of just blasting the place he leads a slave rebellion. As a reader you find out his deal when he tells his son in that big fight scene right at the end of the first season, which iirc is volume three of the trades.

I didn’t know about the Atom Eve special (and weird that Amazon didn’t recommend it to me, having watched the whole first season?), so thanks!

Well that was cool. Can't wait for more... and then the horrible wait after Ep 4 until next year for the rest of season 2.

Cool to hear Lance Reddick’s voice in episode 2. RIP my dude!

Finding myself really enjoying this series, despite loathing nearly all superhero content nowadays.

I think they have just the right balance of enough super heroes to make the world feel "super" but without overwhelming the viewer with so many that each character gets lost.

The DC films and such often fail on that front because they jam in so so many into such a short span of time that they trip over each other and very few get the screen time they need. Plus Invincible is 1 thing not TV series, streaming series, multiple films and more all interconnecting and such. So you can just sit back and watch it in one go on its own; you don't have to get that feeling that you're missing half the show.

Looks like its the Atom Eve special thing. Started playing after Episode one, so I thought it was Ep. 2

It’s still really weird to me that the show changed Science Dog into Seance Dog.

look, sometimes the writing room forgets to take it easy after 2 for 1 margaritas, and some slightly slurred words make it through the process, and then you're stuck just rolling with it

Well, all caught up and now I wait for the rest of the “season”. Or maybe not. There is a lot going on in this series and I only find about half of it interesting. Maybe it will all tie together, but its a chore to process.

Also, animation this season so far seemed worse then previous, but I only watched the first season once.

Spoiler:
I’d forgive my dad for murdering a group of superheroes who trusted him, killing thousands of innocents, calling my mom a “pet” and beating me near to death. I’d have to dig deep, but I’d do it.

But my dad giving an alien insect woman some sloppy tongue kisses right in front of me? That’s too much. Something inside would die. I’d take my mom’s maiden name and never look back.

Spoiler:

Ha yeah. That said there's a few curious parts about that episode

I think the idea of forgiveness is ok, remembering that his father turning bad happened almost in a split second, from his perspective. That said I think it would have had more impact if we'd had a greater sense of the passing of time. It's a little mixed because whilst his father seems to have gone on a flight through space for utterly ages; in contrast Invincible has just had his summer holidays (a period of time that for many of us passes in the blink of an eye and is a few weeks long). So on the one hand we kind of have a sense of a lot of time passing and on the other we don't.

The other thing is that he was left alive at the end of the episode. After all these claims that you have to WIN in the fight to succeed its interesting that winning and being crippled at the end appears to be enough justification. It's curious though that they'd just send him back to Earth when he's shown nothing but contempt for them and clearly knows nothing of the universe or his people nor anything. Part of me wonders if its just comic-book writing; or if they've got some sub-plot that they want to conduct so they "let him go".

Honestly it feels like we've got a nice number of concurrent storylines going on; but I hope we've reached a bit of an end of new ones. I don't mind lots of subplots and such, but they've introduced quite a few in the opening episodes and now would be a great time to mull over a few and let one or two mature and develop and maybe even resolve before introducing more.

I also feel like they've amped up making Amber way more agreeable (almost jarringly so) that doesn't seem to match her previous personality and her relationship with Mark seems to have taken a 180 from where we last left off because of the fan backlash against her knowing his identity and still being pissy about him not showing up to help at the soup kitchen while he's literally saving lives fighting villains. It's a bit weird that they glossed over that conflict (I don't remember seeing any scenes that showed how they patched through issue?) and personally I would much rather they have cut her parts out altogether by having them formally break up and had him either start something with Atom Eve (they had basically laid the groundwork after Rex cheated on her anyways) or just not have any romance this season for Mark given his PTSD from facing his dad.

I mean... Amber knows that he stopped his dad and saved the world from him. It's hard to be like "You were not at the soup kitchen." when you fought your dad and had all your teeth knocked out trying to save everyone and suffering PTSD from the thousands you failed to save. Enough of a time jump forward happens that she can take a step back and be more supportive of his person struggles.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

I think the problem is that they ended off their last conversation with that and there's not even one scene that shows that they specifically reconciled over their argument and what Mark was dealing with, even something as short as her going "my bad, shouldn't have dropped that on you, didn't realize how heavy this super hero stuff can be". Time skip or not, you need some sort of continuity that addresses something that's left hanging like that. It would be like if they had the mom suddenly become a lesbian couple with Olga and being super happy with her with no explanation. Sure, she might be trying to cope with her husband's betrayal but to jump straight into that with no context and no development would be a stretch. What they're doing with her right now trying to transition back to a normal life at work or as a mom is fine and showing (key thing what they didn't do for Amber/Mark's relationship) the process of her coming to terms with her new reality. Also, frankly, Mark definitely deserves better and there isn't even the excuse of there being a sunk cost fallacy for this relationship, since Mark's only been dating her for less than a year before everything went down with his dad?

Man, usually I’m the one watching the show fresh and speculating. It’s amusing being the guy who’s read all the books and knows where it’s going and watching you all speculate.

Mark's never won a fight. This includes any fight he's had with Amber.

This show got me on a Leonard Cohen music binge because of the Omni-man exile montage. Pretty inspired choice, and a great cover of Avalanche.
