Subject: GW introduces the "Stormvault Skirmish Case"
I don't have the patience for swapping models on the paint handle when batch painting. I am tempted by the multi arm painting handles.
At one point they sold a 5 pack of the painting handles. Worth it. I can do a 5 man squad, no swapping. (plus a monster on the side with the big handle)
Might seem a little extravagant, but I honestly have trouble just holding minis to paint these days. Makes a difference on how long I can hang out at the paint bench.
Seen a couple instance of people mentioning that foam rub off painting here, but I've never seen that occurring myself in 15+ year of using it, nor seen it mentioned before as a negative for foam! That's a first!
Also to note, I got a small and cheap (about 20 bucks from memory) pluck foam case with hard shell to use for a Fallout faction, and it easily house one or two faction + extras in there (over 20 minis, that include a few bigger ones like power armor). Probably smaller and less bulky than this one by GW too. And the exterior is fabric-like and open with a zipper, looks better than the hard plastic with clamp I see here from GW.
Really seems like a missed opportunity here.
Fantasy armies - Retired (Tomb Kings, Vampires, Empire, Chaos Warriors/Daemons, Dark Elves)
Tyranids army - Ever evolving, but about 10k pts
Custodes - 3,500pts (Fully painted yay!)
Thousand Sons - 4,000 pts
Eldar - 3,000pts

Depends on the case/foam brand. KR cases use very soft foam with a very small-celled structure so the holes are too small to snag parts and the material isn't stiff enough to rub aggressively when the model moves. Other cases use a different foam type that has a larger cell structure that is better at snagging delicate parts and is much stiffer and more abrasive so any surfaces that touch the foam are prone to losing paint over time. It seems to be one of those "you get what you pay for" things with cheaper cases (or GW's cheap quality sold at premium prices) having the most problems.
I like the zigzag foam but purely for the more modern dynamic plastic models.
The mould removers havd reduced my modelling knife close calls.

Now, my Gw spinning spray stick....
Best Christmas pressie from my wife...evah!
I couldn’t believe anyone would use the painting handle, but ended up trying and love it. I also don’t use it for batch paint units but characters or small squads it’s a go to.
Forgot about the spray stick, didn’t ever get one.
The issue with this box for me is it’s too small, if I’m moving minis it’s more than that but it looks clever and I bet it’s another of those stupid GW ideas that’s actually really good, but too expensive!

A Feldherr Mini Minus case is so much better for my needs, and holds 16 Primaris sized infantry models, has a pocket in the top... and it will likely be cheaper.
Hard pass.

Ok I was really confused by the rubbing thing too. I guess I lucked out on picking KR back in the day.
This new case looks kind of...awkward? I guess it solves the issue of modern gw sculpts having tons of tiny little details that can snap off, but at that point I'd just finally break down and get around to finally building a magnetic case...

The zigzag foam is awesome. Makes sure all your models contact each other. Really helps drive new model sales. But this Iron Maiden case? Just short of storing your dudes in a boxful of kitty litter and roadside silt.

This gentleman has the best answer.

Yep. KR specifically designed their system to avoid the rubbing problems other cases had at the time (and probably still do). IIRCGW cases were some of the worst for it and I suspect this weird thing is going to continue the tradition.

Likewise.
Although in recent years, as large models have gotten ever larger, and base sizes have ballooned, I've slowly been transferring my armies into Battlefoam Pack 720s.
My old GW cases then go on to be re-foamed as needed and used for things like Kill Team, War Cry, and various other minis games that don't require as much space.

I got one of the old bed shaped handles to try it out, and then immediately purchased every handle the flgs had in stock. Got six of them plus a large one in my painting toolbox, and consequently batch paint models by the five/six count unit size at a time. Also got one of the red ones in my modeling toolbox for sculpting. Haven’t used any of the current smooth ones.

I have a couple of the handles, the original version and the updated one, as they came as part of my Conquest and Imperium subscriptions.
I can't see me prioritising handles but, should I run out of other things to spend money on, picking up another three for batch painting Imperial Guard, Wargames Atlantic human models could be a thing.
The new Stormvault Skirmish Case is the ideal way to carry a Kill Team squad, a Warcry warband, a Blood Bowl team, a Necromunda gang, a Warhammer Underworlds warband, or any other small but elite force of miniatures. The case is lined with smooth silicone bristles that close together with the lid and grip your miniatures securely in place, protecting them from damage. The bristles are precisely spaced to hold any type of miniature on a 25-40mm round base and up to a 75mm oval base.

Those ghost hands are like the most ridiculous idea someone could have... almost like a comedy retouch brief. - remove hands... retoucher paints them white
Not going to lie, given how much their real cases were a couple decades ago, I expected a higher price.
I mean, this is a much smaller one... and it doesn't even have a hinge? Seems like it's simply two separate pieces? Two of the same piece, actually, from the looks of it.

GW just ran out of them, and they are "Temporarily Out of Stock"?
At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

Plano boxes, with their soft plastics, also work, though more the tabletop soft plastics (eg. Reaper) crowd. Decades ago, foam sheets were cheap, so you could DIY foam in a box, and sammich the miniatures into the box. Bases you could fit along the inside edge. Wouldn't work for miniatures with lots of 3D spikey prongy bits, of course. :/

So most of them these days.
The cover art for the box itself shows the lead Stormcast (second from right, top row) with a weapon that clearly goes beyond the boundary of the case. How does that work?Is there a video anywhere actually showing one of these things closing?

I pity those kids stuck in the "GW bubble" that will think this is the only way to transport your figures.
Currently most played: Silent Death, Mars Code Aurora, Battletech, Warcrow and Infinity.

Presumably you'd just rotate said model slightly so that they point sideways instead of straight up.

Yeah, so why not show that in the demonstrative art?

*shrug* Why when advertising their last round of cases did GW feel the need to demonstrate that the plastic is waterproof by gently floating a case out onto a pond?
