Warhammer World today...

I picked up Rogue Trader and both Realm of Chaos books

Does Lost and the Damned have a lower sticker price than Slaves to Darkness there? It's a way bigger book!

Oddly it does - £40 for Slaves to Darkness and £37.50 for Lost and the Damned. It's not much bigger though, maybe 10 pages? Externally both books appear to be the same thickness.

I would pay good money to get a copy of each of the Chaos books. Are they still available at Warhammer World? Anyone willing to pick up some copies for me? Please, please, pretty please?

They are quite heavy and shipping from them from the UK to the states for the two is almost prohibitively expensive.

But is it more money in total than what they're charging on ebay for them?

I can't make out the price on the command tank kit. How much is it?

What other WHW exclusives are there at the moment, aside from the pictured books?

Having copies of Compendium and Compilation, in terms of historical interest they’re just not the same as RT and the two RoC books.

Waaaargh! The Orks! absolutely is,

Freebooterz has some pretty good stuff too.
Chaos Corrupted and Genestealer Tainted Orks anyone?

Mmm. I wouldn't say 'Ere We Go/Freebooterz quite rise to the iconic level of Realm of Chaos, but they are so, so rich and also some of the most entertainingly readable gaming material I can remember. (A bit more so than Waaaargh! by my recollection but I never owned the latter and it is a very old recollection.) I still have them, but I cut the cards out of the back of EWG so those have gone and I'd certainly be in the market for a reprint.

Waaargh! is purely background for the Orkses, and is a wonderful read!

‘Ere We Go and Feebooterz cover the rules, including Clan variants. There is some extra background, particularly for weirder units in Freebooterz.

Got a shipping notification today, so that's good!

Still no sign of that Skyshield Landing Platform I ordered way before RT MTO though..

The Space Marine HQ Command Tanks were £85 I think.

Other stuff included the original Imperial Land Speeder, an exclusive Imperial Knight head, Warhammer World Dioramas book, various artwork pieces and other merchandise.

No idea what they are charging on ebay so they might be, might not be. I talked to someone in the UK about it once and when they looked into shipping they just laughed and laughed and we just dropped the idea for the time being.

My current copy is indeed soft back. And I’ve absolutely no idea when that version was first released.

I may order the print to order myself. Hardback is just prettier unto my idiot eyes. And practicing what I preach? It’s nice to have a copy I can peruse without overly worrying about preservation.

If memory serves, the first print was the softback. Or at least it's the first one I ever saw.

The first printings versions were hardcover. Softcovers were later reprints - I never saw them until quite some time later.

Ta! I'm assuming (certainly hoping) that at that price, you actually get a land raider and rhino kit as well as the upgrade bitz.

It is the land raider, rhino, and command sprue to upgrade both. I don’t think it has the older command sprue that has bits for all the armies.

Sod it, ordered a copy. Nice hardback with modern binding to preserve my vintage copy.

Also, I figure the more they sell, perhaps the more inclined they’ll be to do MTO for the other books.

Maybe one day we can get them to re-release the original Land Raider and Rhino/Predator plastic kits!

(and no, I don't mean the Proteus & Deimos modern kits - I mean the truly original ones).

The Land Raider mold was broken for several years even before they made the second version.

Well….allegedly.

I’m not sure exactly when it was retired from sale, but I don’t recall it being sold during 2nd Ed, at all. But it was seen in what I’d call 2nd Ed Packaging (blue border, photo of painted model rather than art work)

The why may be GW urban legend. Certainly costly as they are, I can’t see GW only ever having the one mould,

There's definitely an early 2nd ed box version that was sold at one point. I've seen it on ebay at least once.

I'm inclined to believe the hypothesis of the molds being broken/lost. There's a big enough gap between the start of 2nd and the next LR model released for 3rd that it would've been leaving money behind to not sell the thing consistently until the new version was released.

My other guess would be that GW expected the new LR to be ready to ship earlier and cut production of the RT version in anticipation.

I sure hope not. I've got some of the originals, and they're pretty bad kits.

You could almost scratchbuild an og plastic Rhino, the design was so barebones.. Personally I consider the 2022 Proteus Land Raider to be the best rendition of that particular vehicle in terms of detail and proportions, only the sponson mounts arent faithful to the og design. But I can understand why someone would lust after the og Rhinos, those things were even more brutalist looking that the modern Deimos kit, and that old brutalist look feels more like an STC design of a vehicle that can be built using almost any available raw materials..

The OG Landraider also had issues, like the weapons being very easily broken.

The Proteus is a solid update which pretty much resolves all the issues. As it should what, 35ish years on?

Yeah, my sponsons broke on my OG Land Raider as well, multiple times - they’re now held in place with metal rods. And the Pintle mounts have broken as well.

Even so, I’d like to get my hands on a fresh-out-of-the-box new one, as I made the mistake of painting my original as Ultramarines, and my army has long morphed to Dark Angels.

And I don’t want to sell my firstborn for it - his girlfriend would miss him.
